March has arrived and the focus shifts to postseason play throughout college basketball.

Tennessee (22-9, 11-7 SEC) finished fifth in the Southeastern Conference regular-season standings. The Vols’ final regular-season ranking is No. 19 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

The 2023 SEC Tournament begins on Wednesday at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. No. 5 seed Tennessee will play the winner of No. 12 South Carolina and No. 13 Ole Miss on March 9 at 3 p.m. EST. The contest will be televised by SEC Network.

Tennessee recruiting targets BJ Edwards and Blue Cain helped Knoxville Catholic High School (Knoxville, Tennessee) to a 63-50 victory over Webb School of Knoxville.

The rivalry series between the Knoxville Catholic and Webb was renewed this season after a seven-year hiatus.

Edwards, a senior point guard and Tennessee signee, scored a game-high 22 points, and recorded the game’s first eight points. He recorded nine rebounds, four blocks and three steals.

Cain, a 2023 shooting guard, scored 13 of his 18 points in the third quarter. He was held to two points over the first 16 minutes of the contest.

Cain has offers from Tennessee, East Tennessee State, Howard, Georgia Tech, South Carolina and Syracuse.

2023 Tennessee basketball recruiting target and a Volunteers’ signee each had a stellar performance Saturday.

2023 guard Blue Cain scored 26 points for Knoxville Catholic High School (Knoxville, Tennessee) in its 77-57 victory over Knoxville Christian School.

Cain, who also has offers from East Tennessee State, Howard, Georgia Tech, South Carolina and Syracuse, has been one of the state’s top high school guards since his arrival at Knoxville Catholic three years ago and the Fighting Irish are one of Tennessee’s top basketball programs.

Knoxville Catholic (12-3) has made the Division II-AA state tournament in each of the last two seasons and won the state championship in 2020.

BJ Edwards, a point guard and Tennessee signee, had 25 points against the Knights Saturday.

Edwards was the most valuable player of the 2020 state tournament as a sophomore.

KNOXVILLE — A local high school basketball star with an offer in hand from the University of Tennessee has received a top ranking from a national recruiting service.

Knoxville Catholic High School point guard B.J. Edwards is ranked as the No. 61 player in the nation by Rivals.com.

Edwards, a rising junior for the Irish, is a top national prospect. He helped Knoxville Catholic win the TSSAA Division II-AA state championship in March before COVID-19 brought a premature ending to high school sports in Tennessee and the country.

He was the state tournament’s Most Valuable Player and dished out 200 assists during the 2019-20 season for the Irish, who went 25-4 and edged defending state champ Briarcrest Christian School to claim their first-ever state championship in boys basketball.

Edwards is a four-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class.

In addition to his offer from the Volunteers, he has also been recruited and offered by several schools including Georgetown, Vanderbilt, Auburn, South Carolina and South Alabama.
