Notre Dame offers ’22 New Jersey Defensive Back

The Irish head out to the east coast for their most recent offer, New Jersey cornerback Avery Powell.

August has been a nice month for New Jersey defensive back Avery Powell. Yesterday the Irish joined Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, and Florida as the schools to offer the 5-foot-11-inch defensive star so far this month.

A big wow from Powell as he announced that the Irish had offered, a reaction that none of the other offered schools received. That makes 10 total offers out to current class of 2022 cornerback prospects, with the majority if them being bigger prospects. Powell is on the smaller side at 5-foot-11-inches and 170-pounds, but that did not scare the Irish staff.

Powell’s numbers his sophomore year aren’t eye popping, but playing significantly at that level is impressive. He recorded one interception while having 9 pass break-ups and 52 tackles. The Irish look to add to their 2022 recruiting class that currently has 2 current commits, OL Joey Tanona and TE Jack Nickel, which has them ranked 7th nationally by the 247Sports composite at this early juncture.

Class of 2022 three-star cornerback Avery Powell released his top 21 schools yesterday and among those listed were the Wisconsin Badgers.

The Jersey City, New Jersey native is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 282 player in the class of 2022, the No. 30 cornerback and the No. 6 player from the state of New Jersey.

As seen above, the other Big Ten schools on Powell’s radar are Maryland, Nebraska and Michigan State.

Paul Chryst’s class of 2022 is already off to a hot start with four-star linebacker/safety Braelon Allen singlehandedly having the class in the nation’s top 12. Landing Powell would continue the program’s recruiting momentum as they continue to build for a bright future.

Despite some recent recruiting setbacks, Michigan State Football head coach Mel Tucker is continuing to move forward. On Monday, it was announced that the Spartans have offered a scholarship to 2022 3-star cornerback Avery Powell out of Jersey City, New Jersey.

Powell is a 5’11” defensive back who currently plays for St. Peters Prep School. There is quite a bit of variance in his recruiting rankings as the 247Sports composite rankings have him as the No. 6 player in New Jersey for his class but their core rankings have him at No. 26.
