Three more LSU Tigers bid farewell after the 2021 season

Three seniors tweet their goodbyes.

It occurs every offseason but it doesn’t make it any easier for these student athletes. A trio of LSU Tigers big farewell on social media after the conclusion of the 2021 season.

They played on a team that won a national championship in 2019 and sent their head coach Ed Orgeron out as a winner in the final regular-season game against the Texas A&M Aggies in dramatic fashion. Almost a storybook ending, the only better way would be in a championship season, but Orgeron took his childhood team to the ultimate peak in 2019.

These three players played plenty of meaningful snaps for the Tigers. The first was Cam Lewis, who played five seasons at LSU. In 2019 and 2021 he played in 11 games each season. This past season was his most productive in those five seasons. He tallied 54 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, 1.5 sacks, and one forced fumble.

Punter Avery Atkins was the second player we are highlighting. He served as the holder for junior kicker Cade York. In 2021 he was named the starting punter where he was called upon for 62 punts. Atkins averaged 42.6 yards per punt. During his four-year career, Atkins totaled seven tackles and one fumble recovery.

Finally, we have a starter at offensive guard Ed Ingram. He will work on building up his draft stock before making the jump to the professional league. Ingram played in 45 games over his Tigers career. He was part of the offensive line that protected Joe Burrow in that magical season.

Each player tweeted their own message on Friday.

Ed Orgeron gambles early

After the LSU Tigers defense was able to tighten up against the Alabama Crimson Tide, they got the ball following the missed field goal. It was the first time since the Mercer game that the Tide didn’t score on their opening drive.

Facing a fourth down, head coach Ed Orgeron called a timeout. They came out in punt formation. Punter Avery Atkins ran the ball up towards the line of scrimmage before doing a jump shot pass to tight end Jack Mashburn. The conversion would lead to bigger things for the Tigers as they look to knock off the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide.

Following the fake punt play, a holding penalty put the Bayou Bengals into the red zone. Quarterback Max Johnson was able to find freshman receiver Brian Thomas Jr for the catch and run into the end zone giving LSU the lead at 7-0.

The Tigers have forced another punt against Alabama and the offense driving again.

Saturday Standouts: Which LSU players stood out on Saturday

A look at the players who stood out for LSU on Saturday in the 28-25 victory.

On Saturday afternoon in Starkville, Mississippi, the LSU Tigers came out victorious with the 28-25 victory. The game got close late as the Bulldogs tried to make a late run at a win. The illegal touching on the onside kick attempt sealed their fate.

After a slow start to this game that saw LSU lead 7-3 at the half, the offense really got rolling in the second half. Max Johnson found nine different receivers in this game. His four touchdowns all came on passes of 10+yards.

The defense stepped up in this game, after last year’s embarrassing loss at home. They forced a couple of turnovers and kept everything in front of them for the most part. A missed field goal in the first half by MSU was the difference in a win for LSU and sending the game to overtime.

We look at the five players who stood out for the Bayou Bengals as they improved to 3-1 on the season.
