Colorado Avalanche at Los Angeles Kings odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Colorado Avalanche at Los Angeles Kings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Colorado Avalanche and Los Angeles Kings square off to open their 2023-24 seasons at Crypto.com Arena Wednesday. Puck drop is set for 10 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Avalanche vs. Kings odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Avs were bounced in the 1st round of the playoffs by the Seattle Kraken in 7 games last year. The key for them will be health as they have 3 of the best 15 players in the sport in C Nathan MacKinnon, D Cale Makar and C Mikko Rantanen. Colorado has already lost LW Gabriel Landeskog for the season and backup G Pavel Francouz is out indefinitely with a groin injury.

The Kings lost to the Edmonton Oilers in 6 games in the 1st round of the playoffs last season. They’re led by C Adrian Kempe, who had 41 goals last year. The Kings are a tough, defensive-minded team, and they won 2 of 3 games in this matchup last season — both in Colorado.

Avalanche at Kings projected goalies

Alexandar Georgiev (40-16-6, 2.53 GAA, .919 SV%, 5 SO last season) vs. Cam Talbot (17-14-2, 2.93 GAA, .898 SV%, 1 SO last season)

Last year was Georgiev’s 1st season as the starter, and he had solid numbers.  He was in goal for all 3 Kings-Avalanche games and had a 3.60 GAA and .888 SV%, saving 87 of 98 shots. He went 4-1-1 with a 2.81 GAA and .918 SV% in 6 October starts to open the season last year, which are on par with his season totals.

Talbot was plagued by 3 different injuries in Ottawa last year and never really found his groove. The 36-year-old will be pushed by backup Pheonix Copley, who was great down the stretch and in the playoffs last year. Talbot didn’t face the Avs last year, but he went 1-1 with a 2.51 GAA and .931 SV% against them 2 years ago while with the Minnesota Wild.

Avalanche at Kings picks and predictions

Prediction

Kings 3, Avalanche 2

Moneyline

The Kings are short ‘dogs in this one, and the public is in on the Avs. According to Pregame.com, 59% of the tickets are on Colorado. It will be interesting to see if sharp money comes in on L.A. as the day progresses. The Kings went 26-11-4 at home last season and took 2 of 3 from Colorado. This Avs team isn’t the same, loaded unit that won the Cup 2 years ago.

I like the KINGS (+102).

Puck line/Against the spread

I don’t like the Avs’ side even if they were able to win, and the Kings are too juiced to consider. One prop bet I will consider is NATHAN MACKINNON 5+ SHOTS ON GOAL (-132). He was super active in the last preseason game with 6 SOG, and he had 8 shots in one of the games against the Kings last year. He also started the season fast with 7 shots in his first game last year.

Over/Under

All 3 games went Over between these teams last year, but the Kings had some issues between the pipes that led them to trade G Jonathan Quick late in the season. I look for the teams to feel each other out early on, and I really don’t see 7 goals unless it reaches overtime.

Take the UNDER 6.5 (-128).

Colorado Avalanche at Los Angeles Kings odds, picks, and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Colorado Avalanche at Los Angeles Kings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Colorado Avalanche (42-13-5) travel to meet the Los Angeles Kings (33-20-8) at Crypto.com Arena Tuesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Avalanche vs. Kings odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Avalanche snapped a mini two-game skid with a 3-0 win over the Calgary Flames Sunday. Colorado picked up D Josh Manson from the Anaheim Ducks in a trade Monday.

The Kings are looking to avenge a 4-1 home loss to the Avalanche on Jan. 20, that saw Avs G Darcy Kuemper outplay G Jonathan Quick. L.A. also snapped a two-game losing skid last time out when it picked up a 3-2 shootout win over the Florida Panthers Sunday.

Avalanche at Kings odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:23 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Avalanche -220 (bet $220 to win $100) | Kings +175 (bet $100 to win $175)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Avalanche -1.5 (+120) | Kings +1.5 (-150)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: +110 | U: -135)

Avalanche at Kings projected goalies

Darcy Kuemper (28-8-2, 2.47 GAA, .922 SV%, 4 SO) vs. Jonathan Quick (16-11-7, 2.69 GAA, .908 SV%, 2 SO)

Kuemper picked up his first win in four starts with a 46-save shutout against the Flames Sunday. He is now 2-2-0 with a 2.57 GAA and .935 SV% in five outings in March.

Quick allowed 2 goals on 32 shots against the Panthers last time out, moving to 2-0-1 with a 2.86 GAA and .901 SV% across three starts in March.

Avalanche at Kings odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Kings 3

Money line

The Avalanche (-220) will cost you more than two times your potential return, and that’s just too risky, especially on the road.

AVOID.

Against the spread

I don’t really trust the KINGS +1.5 (-150) straight up, but they’re a strong play at this price point for a little insurance on the puck line. Each of Quick’s three March starts has been decided by 1 goal, and the Kings have covered the puck line in all but one of his past nine appearances.

Over/Under

The OVER 6.5 (+110) is the lean.

While the Under has been the case for the Avalanche lately, the Over is 4-1 in the last five games at home for the Kings and 5-2 in their last seven as a home ‘dog. Colorado is second in the NHL with 3.8 goals per game, so you can expect plenty of scoring.

Colorado Avalanche at Los Angeles Kings odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Colorado Avalanche at Los Angeles Kings odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Colorado Avalanche (35-13-4) play the second half of a two-game set on the road against the Los Angeles Kings (21-25-6) Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for a 10 p.m. ET at Staples Center. Below, we analyze the Avalanche-Kings odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Avalanche won four of their last five games, including a 3-2 victory in Los Angeles Friday night behind G Philipp Grubauer as the Under (5.5) connected.

The Kings were cooled off Friday to splash cold water on a two-game win streak. They’re 4-3-0 across their past seven outings, and four of their previous six games were decided by 1 goal.

Avalanche at Kings: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:45 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Avalanche -275 (bet $275 to win $100) | Kings +230 (bet $100 to win $230)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Avalanche -1.5 (-110) | Kings +1.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: +100 | U: -120)

Avalanche at Kings: Projected starting goalies

Jonas Johansson (3-6-2, 3.10 GAA, .894 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Troy Grosenick (1-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .971 SV%)

Johansson picked up three victories in four starts in April, including a shutout against the Anaheim Ducks April 9. He allowed 2 or fewer goals in three of those four outings, too.

Grosenick made 33 saves in a 5-1 Kings win against the Ducks March 10 in his first NHL appearance since 2014-15. Jonathan Quick has been nursing an upper-body injury, and Cal Petersen lost Friday’s start and won’t go back-to-back, so Grosenick is it.

Avalanche at Kings: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Avalanche 5, Kings 3

Money line (ML)

The Avalanche (-275) will cost you nearly three times your potential return, and that’s much too risky in a game likely without its best offensive player and a pair of backup goaltenders between the pipes.

AVOID.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The AVALANCHE -1.5 (-110) are the lean here despite the fact they have their backup netminder in the crease.

Of course, the Kings also have their backup in net, and he has just one start since 2014. Needless to say, Colorado is the much better play.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 6 (+100) is the lean, as even without MacKinnon for the Avalanche, and Dustin Brown missing for the Kings, the offense should be able to pile up plenty of goals against a pair of backup tendies.
