Texas Football Recruiting: Longhorns offer 2022 Austin QB

The Texas Longhorns have offered Austin-Westlake quarterback Cade Klubnik of the 2022 recruiting class.

The Texas Longhorns needed to find a replacement for the loss of Quinn Ewers in the 2022 recruiting class. They did not have to look far as they have offered Cade Klubnik out of Austin-Westlake. He is highly touted and already has 25 scholarship offers from schools all over the country. If he were to commmit to Texas, Klubnik would be the third Austin quarterback on the roster by the time he enrolls.

Texas Baseball Team To Retire The Number of Longhorns Legend

The Texas Longhorns will be retiring the number 25. That number was worn by Austin native and Longhorns legend Huston Street.

The Texas Longhorns are looking to return to the College World Series in hopes of capturing the elusive World Championship that has evaded their grasp since 2002. To do so, the Longhorns brought back the man that helped lead them to Omaha during that season, former Major League Baseball pitch Huston Street. He was the MVP of that championship run.

Huston Street’s number 25 jersey will be retired. A huge honor bestowed upon a legend in the streets of Austin. During his time with the Longhorns, Street finished with 41 career saves. He is regarded as one of the best college closers of all time. In 2010, Street was named to the NCAA College World Series Legends Team.

Street finished his professional career with 324 saves that spanned 13 seasons. His career record finish 42-34 with 665 strikeouts. Street joined the staff this past offseason. He was also named AL Rookie of The Year in 2005 while a member of the Oakland A’s. The two-time All-Star finished with a 2.95 earned run average (ERA).

Sam Ehlinger and Drew Brees share Alamo Bowl history

Texas’ win over Utah was the second-largest upset in Alamo Bowl history. The largest upset was in 1998 when Drew Brees defeated No. 4 KSU.

Going into Tuesday’s Alamo Bowl, Utah was ranked No. 11 in the College Football Playoff standings. Texas took care of business against the Utes, pulling out a dominating 38-10 victory. It was the highest-ranked team the Longhorns had beaten unranked since last season’s victory over No. 17 TCU.

It was also the second-largest upset in the history of the Alamo Bowl. The largest upset in 1998 when now New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees defeated No. 4 Kansas State.

Both Ehlinger and Brees attended Westlake High School in Austin, TX. The now Texas quarterback graduated in 2016, while the former Purdue signal-caller graduated in 1996.

Purdue won the 1998 Alamo Bowl 37-34 after the Wildcats lost in the Big 12 championship in double overtime. Much like the Longhorns, the Boilermakers were able to take advantage of a team off an emotional loss.

Sam Ehlinger Watches His High School Win the State Championship

Last night was the 6A D2 state championship where Austin Westlake took on Denton Guyer. Sam Ehlinger was on the sidelines for the game.

Last night was the 6A Division 2 state championship where Austin Westlake took on Denton Guyer. Taking place at AT&T Stadium, Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger was on the sidelines for the game, cheering on his former school.

Getting as far as the state championship game in 2015, Ehlinger was never able to lead the Chaparrals to a championship. He lost to the 2015 game 21-14 in overtime and lost in the quarterfinals his senior season.

The Chaparrals dominated the entire game, winning 24-0. It was only the second state championship in the school’s history, with the first coming in 1994 when Drew Brees was in charge. Ehlinger was there to congratulate his former head coach after the victory. After the game, Todd Dodge announced he would return to Westlake next season, taking his name out of consideration for any other jobs.

Ehlinger’s focus will now turn to the bowl game on New Year’s Eve. The Longhorns will face off against Utah in the Alamo Bowl at 6:30 p.m. CST on ESPN.
