Black Stripe Alert! Kicker Austin Snyder sheds black stripe

Black stripe alert! Kicker Austin Snyder has lost his black stripe and has become an official member of the Brotherhood.

Snyder is a local kid from nearby Groveport, Ohio, where he was a multi-sport athlete for Groveport High School. He began his college career at Divison II Findley, where he appeared in 29 games for the Oilers, kicking and punting. He transferred to Ohio State in May of 2023.

Few fans probably knew who the Buckeye’s backup kicker was before last week’s game against Marshall. After starting kicker Jayden Fielding put three straight kickoffs out of bounds, he was replaced by Snyder who sailed two kickoffs into the endzone for touchbacks and converted all his PAT attempts.

It was said that Fielding may have injured his kicking leg, which led to the out-of-bounds kickoffs. If Fielding is unable to go, Snyder may be called upon once again to fulfill kicking duties for the Buckeyes at Michigan State.

Ohio State adds in-state kicker Austin Snyder from transfer portal

An Ohio native takes one step closer to returning home. #GoBucks

Ohio State football stayed busy in the offseason this weekend by adding an in-state kicker from the transfer portal. Austin Snyder, who spent the past three seasons at Division II Findlay, announced his decision to join the Buckeyes via his personal Twitter account.

Snyder grew up in the south suburbs and attended Groveport Madison High School where he was a multi-sport star earning varsity letters in four  sports.

At the end of his senior year of high school, Snyder had heard from a few Division I schools but ultimately felt at home at the University of Findlay and with head coach, Rob Keys. However, in the spring of 2022 Keys took a position on Ohio State’s staff as a quality control coach. Snyder will be reunited with his former head coach in Scarlet and Gray.

Snyder took care of the kicking duties and spent time as a punter for the Oilers. With a booming leg, he has a career-long field goal of 51 yards and averaged over 44 yards punting this past season.

OSU is looking to replace Noah Ruggles, who had been the starting kicker the past two seasons. With the departure of Jake Seibert, the place-kicking duties should be open for competition. Snyder should battle two other transfers, Parker Lewis (USC) and Kasey Magyar (Kent State), and Jayden Fielding, who joined the Buckeyes in January of 2022.
