While a Louisiana team won’t compete in Monday’s College Football Playoff National Championship, multiple players born in the state will take the field against Ohio State.
Notre Dame’s roster boasts three players from Louisiana, including Jaiden Ausberry. The linebacker hails from the state’s capital city and has a brother who plays at LSU.
[autotag]Austin Ausberry[/autotag], a redshirt sophomore safety, played two years at Auburn before returning to his home state. The brothers played high school football at University Lab in Baton Rouge before going their separate ways in college.
Another Baton Rouge native who attended University Lab chose the Fighting Irish for college football. Jordan Clark committed to Notre Dame in the offseason following five seasons at Arizona State. Combined with a running back hailing from New Orleans, three players born in Louisiana will play for the national title on Monday.
Here are the three Louisiana natives who will represent Notre Dame in the national championship.
Jaiden Ausberry
Part of the 2023 cycle, Ausberry drew a four-star ranking from On3’s Industry Rankings. He was the No. 9 prospect in Louisiana and No. 19 at his position. His dad, Verge, was a standout linebacker at LSU and works in the Tigers’ athletic department.
The linebacker enjoyed a breakout sophomore year. Through 15 games, including two starts, he totaled 56 tackles, including 6.5 for loss, a pass deflection, and half a sack. Expect Ausberry to take the field on Monday against the Buckeyes.
Jordan Clark
A Baton Rouge native, Clark spent five years at Arizona State before transferring to Notre Dame. The safety emerged as a regular game contributor in 2021. Through his six-year career, he made 173 tackles, including 8.5 for loss, 26 pass deflections, and one interception.
The sixth-year player will certainly have his hands full against arguably the best receiver duo in college football with Jeremiah Smith and Emeka Egbuka.
Dylan Devezin
Devezin hails from New Orleans, LA. He attended high school at St. Augustine and is currently in his junior season at Notre Dame.
Rostered as a running back, he rarely sees the field outside of special teams. His only appearance in 2024 came in the first round of the College Football Playoffs against Indiana. As a sophomore, Devein played in four games as the holder for extra points and field goals.
