Auburn men’s golf kicks off its regional bid and the Tigers’ softball team gets prepared for theirs for the 17th time in their team’s history. Finally, former Auburn president Jay Gogue’s replacement begins his first day as acting president.

Auburn Morning Rush: Tigers set for Alabama clash with Troy

As you enjoy your morning coffee, check out these top stories involving Auburn athletics.

There are just two weeks remaining in the college baseball season prior to the beginning of the SEC Tournament, which will be held in Hoover, Alabama. Prior to the beginning of the tourney, the Auburn Tigers will head to Hoover on Tuesday night for a mid-week showdown with Troy.

Jordan Armstrong (3-1, 5.33 ERA) is set to take the bump and face off with Troy starter Bay Mitcher (3-2, 6.27 ERA). First pitch is set for 6 p.m. CT at Riddle-Pace Field.

In recent history for the Tigers and Trojans that dates back to 1994, Auburn has owned the series 29-15. This isn’t the first time this season that these two squads have met on the diamond. On Feb. 23, the Tigers scored 13 unanswered runs in the 13-1 win over the Trojans. Troy struck first Cameron Gray brought home a run on an RBI groundout to second.

It was a great game for Sonny DiChiara and Bryson Ware, who drove in 10 of the 13 runs that night. DiChiara’s three-run bomb in the second inning made it 7-1, he added a fourth RBI on a sac fly to score Blake Rambusch. Ware drove in six runs during the game, most of the damage in the bottom of the first on a grand slam to left field to open the game.

If the Tigers can get that production again, it should be a good night in Hoover. Check out the Auburn Sports Network for the radio call of the game.

While you wait on the game Tuesday evening, check out the rest of the stories involving Auburn Tigers athletics:

Auburn Morning Rush: Roger McCreary, Malik Willis among best available

Another edition of the Auburn Morning Rush. We are focusing on the NFL draft this morning.

The weekend is upon us but before we dive into our weekend plans, there is the matter of the NFL draft going on. So plan your weekend accordingly. The next portion begins on Friday at 6 p.m. CT.

After the first 32 selections in the 2022 NFL draft, the action returns on Friday evening with rounds two and three. Still plenty of good contributors available to help NFL teams. Among those are two former Auburn Tigers.

As we march towards the continuation of the NFL draft, we will be closely monitoring the status of Auburn cornerback [autotag]Roger McCreary[/autotag]. He is the top-rated NFL draft prospect for the Tigers and should come off the board relatively early on Friday.

There is also former Auburn QB Malik Willis, who transferred to Liberty to play for Hugh Freeze. He should be one of the first quarterbacks off the board in round two, but we said that about him in round one.

There is the possibility that safety Smoke Monday could also come off the board in round three.

Check out these NFL draft updates ahead of rounds two and three on Friday:

3-star safety Emory Floyd sets official visit for Auburn

Three-star safety Emory Floyd from Powder Springs, Georgia has set an official visit date for Auburn.

Powder Springs, Georgia has been extremely good to Auburn basketball with Isaac Okoro and Sharife Cooper coming from McEachern High School there and now the football team is looking to get one of their own from the town.

Three-star safety Emory Floyd, who plays at Hillgrove High School, has set a date for his official visit to Auburn on June 4.

Ranked the No. 31 safety in the 2022 signing class, Floyd also plans visits to Georgia, Florida and Alabama although those are unofficial.

Sigh! No, Auburn fans didn’t roll Toomer’s Corner because of ‘Bama loss

Auburn fans rolled Toomer’s Corner on Sunday to celebrate an SEC equestrian title, not that rival Alabama lost in the NCAA Tournament.

This is so stupid.

On Sunday night, a former AL.com reporter tweeted a picture of the trees at Toomer’s Corner being rolled, stating that it was due to Alabama’s overtime loss to UCLA in the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.

Nope. Not even close to being true. The rolling on Sunday was due to the SEC title won by top-ranked Auburn equestrian, the program’s third-straight conference title, after they defeated No. 2 Georgia 15-5.

This is the type of misinformation that, oh, I don’t know, would lead to some fanatical Tide fan poisoning the trees.

What’s going to be the reason Auburn fans are rolling the trees in a few weeks when the equestrian team brings home its third-straight national title? We can’t wait to find out.

Bruce Pearl to Texas? Stop it. He’s not leaving what he’s built on the Plains

Bruce Pearl has found a home in Auburn and, even if an offer from Texas comes, don’t expect the Tigers head coach to accept.

With Shaka Smart departing Austin and the Texas Longhorns for the head coaching position with Marquette, some names are already being thrown out there for the vacant job.

One of those names, of course, is Auburn’s Bruce Pearl. ESPN college basketball analyst Seth Greenberg was maybe the first to mention the possibility of him leaving the Plains for the 40 Acres.

“They need someone that’s going to get that Texas fan base excited,” Greenberg said on ESPN’s College GameDay. “I’m going to throw two names at you. How about Bruce Pearl? Talk about a guy that’s gone into a football environment and created frenzy and a winning atmosphere, a winning environment and style of play and energy.

Of course, this is the same Greenberg who did everything but credit the Tigers for their run through the 2019 SEC Tournament, instead saying that the final result — Auburn 84, Tennessee 64, was a mere result of the Volunteers playing “their real SEC championship” the day before against Kentucky.

As I said to that two years ago, I say to Greenberg now: puh-leeze.

In my opinion, the Auburn job is on the same level as the Texas job in men’s basketball. Even when the Longhorns are having a successful season, they struggle to fill their arena. In fact, this has been a problem for so long that the new arena they are building in Austin is much smaller.

This is a university with more than 50,000 students on campus and their reaction to a big basketball game on campus? “Meh.”

Of course the football-first attitude of Texas also describes Auburn but students have made Auburn Arena one of the toughest places to play in college basketball. They feed off the energy that Pearl has brought to the program and, in return, Pearl has adored himself to them.

It’s not like winning is easy at both places, either, yet Pearl has his system in place alongside the players he wants on his side and seems content to be a hero on the Plains compared to just another coach in Austin. Despite the departures of three players and the chance Sharife Cooper might go pro, there is plenty of optimism for next year’s team including the improved play of JT Thor if he returns and the entrance of 5-star recruit Jabari Smith and College of Charleston transfer Zep Jasper.

Auburn was the program that gave Pearl a second chance following his show-cause and dismissal from Tennessee. He has truly bought into the program and has rewarded us with a SEC regular season title, SEC tournament title and a trip to the Final Four.

To say he is currently the most-beloved Auburn coach is an understatement.

Yet, as we know, this is a business and we are sure that Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte and the powerful Longhorn boosters will pony up a ton of money that they can throw at Pearl and other coaches that they deem worthy to run their program.

I just don’t see Pearl wanting to leave what he has built at Auburn. Smart was wise enough to see that he was probably going to get fired after this season in which he led the Longhorns to a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament but was ultimately upset by Abilene Christian in the first round. A No. 3 seed coach get fired? Talk about unrealistic expectations.

Pearl has found his home on the Plains. I’d be so shocked if he left for the Texas job that, if it does occur, I’m willing to ride Bevo for five seconds. That’s how confident I am that Pearl will throw a “horns down” if an offer from Texas comes.
