Auburn equestrian wins fifth-straight SEC Championship

The Tigers have now won six SEC Championships overall.

The Auburn equestrian team continued its dominance over the SEC on Saturday, winning its fifth-straight SEC title. The No. 1 Tigers beat No. 2 Texas A&M, 13-6, at One Wood Farm in Blythewood, South Carolina.

“This team is unbelievable,” head coach Greg Williams said. “They brought the energy today and it was just another special championship for our team. To win five straight is remarkable and I’m so proud of all the hard work and effort that went in to win today.”

The Tigers have won six SEC titles (2016, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023) since the league began sponsoring the sport in 2013.

“It means the world to win another championship with this team,” Olivia Tordoff said. “I wholeheartedly believe the SEC is the hardest conference and to win in this conference truly means more. Seeing this group come together the way we did today is something really special. This win is for those who paved the way before us and for the next group to be a part of this team.”

Tordoff was named to the SEC All-Championship team after going 2-0-0 in Horsemanship. The Tigers had three Most Outstanding Performer honors for the championship meet. Ema Kurtz won Fences, Ellie Ferrigno won Flat, and Madison Parduhn won Horsemanship.

“I really feel like I thrive under pressure and live for big moments like those this weekend,” Kurtz said. “I’m so grateful for the amazing horses I was able to ride. In this sport, dominant performances are just as dependent on the horse as they are on the rider and I’m thankful I got to put up big numbers for my team.”

Auburn’s Jumping Seat corps led the way by going 8-1-1 between Fences and Flat. Auburn also won Horsemanship, beating the Aggies 3-2.

Up next for Auburn is the 2023 NCEA Championship in Ocala, Florida. The meet will be held April 13-15 at the World Equestrian Center with Auburn hosting.

Catch a full day of Auburn programming on July 4

Need your Auburn Athletics fix? SEC Network will handle that on Monday with Auburn’s scheduled “SEC Network Takeover.”

The 2021-22 sports season ended for Auburn late last month as the Tigers Baseball team competed in the College World Series for the second time in three NCAA Tournaments.

Auburn’s magical run ended, leaving two full months on the calendar until Auburn football kicks off the season against Mercer at Jordan-Hare Stadium. That large gap in competition leaves Auburn fans wondering what to do now, and the SEC Network has a quick fix for that.

As part of their annual “SEC Takeover”, where the channel ropes off a day dedicated to each member of the conference to showcase some of the best games and events from the previous athletic season, Auburn will have their turn to take over the airwaves for a full 24 hours beginning Monday, July 4.

In years past, the SEC Network had scheduled memorable games from multiple seasons for each program to play throughout the day. This season, the network has compiled 12 of Auburn’s best moments from the most recent athletic season.

So, as you prepare for late-night fireworks, let SEC Network entertain you with a full day of Auburn’s best games from the 2021-22 season, beginning at 11:30 p.m. Sunday night with Auburn Football’s big win at home against Ole Miss.

Here’s the full schedule of when you can catch your favorite Auburn game from last season on the SEC Network:

Sigh! No, Auburn fans didn’t roll Toomer’s Corner because of ‘Bama loss

Auburn fans rolled Toomer’s Corner on Sunday to celebrate an SEC equestrian title, not that rival Alabama lost in the NCAA Tournament.

This is so stupid.

On Sunday night, a former AL.com reporter tweeted a picture of the trees at Toomer’s Corner being rolled, stating that it was due to Alabama’s overtime loss to UCLA in the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.

Nope. Not even close to being true. The rolling on Sunday was due to the SEC title won by top-ranked Auburn equestrian, the program’s third-straight conference title, after they defeated No. 2 Georgia 15-5.

This is the type of misinformation that, oh, I don’t know, would lead to some fanatical Tide fan poisoning the trees.

What’s going to be the reason Auburn fans are rolling the trees in a few weeks when the equestrian team brings home its third-straight national title? We can’t wait to find out.
