Hawks at Cavaliers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hawks 122, Cavaliers 111

Money line (ML)

The Hawks (-275) are a sub-.500 team with a 6-8 SU record on the road this season. They are a better team that the Cavaliers (+225), yes, but they have no business laying this kind of number against anyone, especially on the road. PASS.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The HAWKS -6.5 (-115) have had a difficult time over the years against the Cavaliers +6.5 (-105), failing to cash in each of the past five meetings in this series. However, Atlanta has cashed in six of their past eight as a favorite, while going 7-3 ATS in the past 10 against teams with a losing overall record.

On the flip side, Cleveland has failed to cover in 13 straight games dating back to Jan. 27, and the Cavs are 5-17 ATS in the past 22 games as an underdog.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 228.5 (-110) has hit in eight in a row for Atlanta, including 4-0 in their past four games on the road. Cleveland was playing outstanding defense early in the season, but injuries have hurt them and their D has suffered. The Over is 11-2 in the past 13 against a team with a losing straight up record, while going 5-1-1 in the past seven on a day of rest.

In this series, the Over is 23-9 in the past 32 meetings, while going 21-8 in the previous 29 meetings in Northeast Ohio.

Nuggets at Hawks: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Nuggets 121, Hawks 114

Money line (ML)

The Hawks have lost five of six and eight of ten overall. Denver has won four of their last six games. However, they have lost five of their last six games on the road.

Atlanta hasn’t been good at home, though, having lost six of their last seven at State Farm Arena. Denver has been reliable as a road favorite, going 7-3 in such games.

Take the NUGGETS (-150).

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Neither Atlanta nor Denver are reliable against the spread overall. The Nuggets are 13-16 ATS and the Hawks are 14-15 ATS, although the Nuggets do beat the spread by an average of 0.6 points. Denver has covered the spread in six of 10 road games as the favorite. Atlanta is 2-4 ATS as a home dog.

Take the NUGGETS -2.5 (-115).

Over/Under (O/U)

Denver is extremely reliable with the total. The Nuggets have the third-highest Over percentage in the league at 69%. They score a lot and give up a lot of points. Whether you look at the numbers on the road or as the favorite, they go Over more than 66% of the time.

Take OVER 232.5 (-110).

Atlanta Hawks at Boston Celtics odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Atlanta Hawks at Boston Celtics NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Boston Celtics (14-14) host the Atlanta Hawks (12-16) for a second straight game Friday at the TD Garden. The tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Hawks-Celtics NBA odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Atlanta upset Boston 122-114 Wednesday as 1.5-point underdogs thanks to a 40-point game from PG Trae Young. The Celtics were pretty banged-up though; Boston was without three starters, and the replacements got destroyed in the head-to-head matchups.

Neither team is playing good ball right now as the Hawks are 2-7 overall and 3-6 ATS this month while the Celtics are just 2-5 overall and ATS over their last seven.

Hawks at Celtics: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 1:20 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Hawks +145 (bet $100 to win $145) | Celtics -175 (bet $175 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Hawks +4.5 (-120) | Celtics -4.5 (+100)
  • Over/Under: 225.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Hawks at Celtics: Key injuries

Hawks at Celtics: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Celtics 120, Hawks 110

Money line (ML)

PASS because Boston is the right side, but the Celtics at -175 or more is out of my price range. Young and PF John Collins generally play well against a Celtics team that has looked shaky recently.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The probable returns of Kemba Walker and big Daniel Theis even the matchup for Boston at each position. Hawks bigs Clint Capela and Collins scored a combined 44 points on 84.2% shooting and added 19 boards vs. the Celtics Wednesday.

Kemba lights up Young: Kemba is averaging 26.8 points per game and shooting 42.9% from deep in four career games against Young. Also, the market is backing Boston because its loss to Atlanta Wednesday was more of a bad situation for the Celtics rather than a bad matchup.

TAKE CELTICS -4.5 (+100) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

Bookmakers have projected this Hawks-Celtics game at 225.5 on the heels of their Wednesday meeting that went Over the total by 14 points.

Most of my handicap on the Hawks-Celtics total Wednesday applies to Friday’s matchup, and I don’t think the line movement for this game’s total was big enough. Theis’ return should give Boston more floor spacing, which obviously helps Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Kemba’s offense.

TAKE OVER 225.5 (-110) for 1 unit.

Atlanta Hawks at Boston Celtics odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Atlanta Hawks at Boston Celtics NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Atlanta Hawks (11-16) stop by TD Garden Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. ET tip-off with the Boston Celtics (14-13). Below, we analyze the Hawks-Celtics NBA odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Atlanta is in the midst of a four-game losing skid, including three consecutive double-digit losses. The Hawks dropped seven of their past eight games. Over that span, they’re dead-last in points off of turnovers and 27th in fast-break points per game.

The Celtics’ 112-99 victory over the Denver Nuggets Tuesday ended a two-game losing skid and it’s only their second win in their last six games. Boston ranks last in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.47) and is shooting just the 26th-highest effective field-goal percentage (49.8) in its last six games.

The Hawks have lost seven straight and 10 of their past 11 games against the Celtics.

Hawks at Celtics: Odds, spread and lines

  • Against the spread/ATS: Hawks +1.5 (-110) | Celtics -1.5 (-110)

Hawks at Celtics: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Celtics 119, Hawks 112

Money line (ML)

Both teams are struggling mightily but the Hawks’ net rating is actually worse than the Celtics’ over the last six games for both teams. I was also much higher on Boston than Atlanta coming into the season, so I lean CELTICS (-120) for a half-unit.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

PASS on the spread because the money line isn’t much pricier.

Because the spread and money line are nearly identical, the ATS trend of Boston being 10-5 ATS with a plus-5.1 ATS margin in the second half of a back-to-back since the beginning of last season applies in this section.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 223.5 (-110) is my favorite play in Hawks-Celtics. The star players for each squad balled out last season against each other. Celtics wings Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown both shot better than 50% from the field against the Hawks in the 2019-20 head-to-head series.

Atlanta PG Trae Young averaged 31.0 points on .442/.360/.882 shooting and PF John Collins scored 22.7 points per game on .650/.556/.917 shooting vs. Boston in 2019-20.

Also, Boston’s defense should be more affected by injuries than its offense. Theis is an average defensive big but he’s the best the Celtics have and Smart is one of the biggest difference-makers on defense in the league.

Boston is 27th in defensive field-goal percentage of attempts at the rim and Atlanta takes the 11th-highest volume of shots at the rim but is connecting at only the 20th-highest clip, according to CleaningTheGlass.com.

Finally, Atlanta excels at getting to the charity stripe and has the highest FTA/FGA rate while Boston is 25th in defensive FTA/FGA rate. TAKE OVER 223.5 (-110) for 1.25 units.

Hawks at Knicks: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Knicks 106, Hawks 101

Money line (ML)

The KNICKS (+100) are a nice play at home as short dogs at even money. New York is coming off a solid 121-99 home win against Houston, and has won two straight and four of the past six. In the first meeting this season, New York picked up a 113-108 win in Atlanta Jan. 4.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The KNICKS +1.5 (-110) are a good play with the point and a half, although playing them straight up (on the money line) is a better value unless you feel the Hawks are going to win by one point and you need insurance.

The Knicks enter on a 3-0 ATS run and 5-1 ATS across the past six. Again, they won outright as 7.5-point underdogs in the first meeting in early January.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 216.5 (-105) is the way to go in this battle as the Under is 5-2 in the past seven for New York, and 7-3 across the past 10. The Knicks have registered just 103.4 PPG to rank 30th in the NBA, and they’re first in defensive scoring average at 103.3 PPG, defensive field-goal percentage allowed (43.1%) and defensive 3-pointer percentage (31.4%). While Atlanta has hit the Over in four straight, remember that the first meeting against New York hit the Under.

Indiana Pacers at Atlanta Hawks odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Indiana Pacers at Atlanta Hawks NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Indiana Pacers (13-13) clash with the Atlanta Hawks (11-14) Saturday at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Pacers-Hawks NBA odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Indiana has struggled through the first half of February but snapped a four-game losing streak its last time out by beating the Detroit Pistons 111-95 Thursday. The Pacers are just 2-4 overall and ATS in February.

Atlanta has fared worse in February, losing five out of six games this month, including the last two in a row. The Hawks have the third-lowest net rating because of their defensive struggles including bottom-10 rankings in opponent’s effective field-goal shooting, FTA rate, and turnover percentage in the past six games.

The Hawks broke a seven-game losing streak to the Pacers in the last meeting back in Jan. 2020, but these teams have split ATS wins over their last 10 meetings.

Pacers at Hawks: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 2:43 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Pacers -115 (bet $115 to win $100) | Hawks -105 (bet $105 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Pacers -1.5 (-105) | Hawks +1.5 (-115)
  • Over/Under: 224.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Pacers at Hawks: Key injuries

Pacers

  • SG Caris LeVert (medical condition) out
  • SF T.J. Warren (foot) out

Pacers at Hawks: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Pacers 116, Hawks 107

Money line (ML)

Indiana likes to attack the basket and get into the paint, which is where Atlanta is vulnerable. According to CleaningTheGlass.com, Indiana attempts the highest volume of shots at the rim and it is second in points in the paint per game, while Atlanta is 24th in opponent’s points in the paint per game.

Also, as stated above, the Hawks defense hasn’t been as good lately as they were earlier in the season. Atlanta is 26th in points per game allowed in February while Indiana is ninth in effective field-goal shooting and seventh in turnover percentage on the season.

Since the Hawks don’t force a lot of turnovers, aren’t a great defensive rebounding team and are 22nd in opponent’s FTA rate, it should be a good day for Indiana.

TAKE PACERS (-115) for 1 unit.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

PASS. The Hawks have been awful in the second of a back-to-backs since the beginning of last season. Atlanta is 4-12 ATS with a minus-15.8 margin of victory and minus-9.8 ATS margin. Because Pacers-Hawks is a coin-flip game, this trend applies and further supports Indiana’s case to win this game outright.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS. BetMGM‘s projected total aligns with my prediction, so for me, there’s no value in betting the total. For what it’s worth, the market has hammered the Under so much that the total has been brought from the 228-point opener to the current price, according to Pregame.com.

San Antonio Spurs at Atlanta Hawks odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s San Antonio Spurs at Atlanta Hawks NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Atlanta Hawks (11-13) host the San Antonio Spurs (14-11) Friday for a 7:30 p.m. ET tip-off at State Farm Arena. Below, we analyze the Spurs-Hawks NBA odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

San Antonio split a two-game miniseries with the Golden State Warriors after losing 114-91 as a 1.5-point road favorite Tuesday. The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Spurs who are 3-3 straight up and 2-4 against the spread over their last six games.

The Hawks lost a 118-117 nail-biter at the Dallas Mavericks Wednesday and have dropped four of their last five games. Over those five games, Atlanta is tied for the sixth-highest turnover rate and is 23rd by net rating.

Atlanta won both meetings last season and has covered the spread in three of the last four games against San Antonio. Hawks PG Trae Young was fantastic in both games, as he averaged 30.0 points per game on 51.3% field-goal shooting with 11.0 assists in those meetings.

Spurs at Hawks: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Spurs 114, Hawks 107

Money line (ML)

The Spurs should fare better in this meeting with the Hawks than their two games last season since they’ve improved by leaps and bounds defensively year over year.

San Antonio was 25th in defensive rating last year but, ranks 10th this season, while being fourth in defensive rebounding percentage and second in FTA/FGA rate.

Spurs PG Dejounte Murray‘s maturation and defensive prowess is a big reason for said improvement. Murray is 15th in steal percentage and 20th in defensive win shares and is the best defensive rated starter on a San Antonio team ninth in defense efficiency.

Murray got lit up by Young last season but with sneaky good defensive bigs protecting the rim behind them the backcourt can extend its perimeter defense while keeping Atlanta’s ballhandlers—Young especially—off the foul line.

lean SPURS (+110) because San Antonio plus the points is a better play and we should be getting around +125 for the underdog.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

BET SPURS +2.5 (-115) heavier or instead of the money line.

Spurs SG DeMar DeRozan has played well vs. the Hawks recently. DeRozan has scored at least 22 points in four of his last five games on 54.9% shooting against the Hawks and the absence of Hunter should make this visit to Atlanta easier.

like DeRozan to ice this game down the stretch.

Over/Under (O/U)

It’s a little too obvious so this is only a lean but I’d TAKE the UNDER 225.5 (-110) for a quarter-unit.

There’s a mountain of Under trends to support that bet plus the market is hammering the Under, which has steamed the total down a couple of points from the opening line.

I prefer taking San Antonio to cover and/or win rather than the Under.

Hawks 112, Raptors 109

Money line (ML)

The HAWKS (+155) are worth a play as home dogs with this being a potential letdown spot for the Raptors. Toronto beat the Brooklyn Nets 123-117 Friday in a game they led most of the way for their third straight win. The Raps got 33 points from PF Pascal Siakam and 30 points from PG Kyle Lowry.

SG Fred VanVleet went just 1-for-9 from 3-point range and finished with 11 points in his follow-up to a franchise-record 54-point performance against the Orlando Magic in Toronto’s last game.

The Raptors rely far too heavily on 3-pointers and rank second in attempts and seventh in success rate for the season. The Hawks hold the opposition to just a 32.7% rate from 3-point range to rank second in the NBA defensively. They’re getting healthier and are in a good spot to snap a three-game losing skid.

Against the spread (ATS)

I like the money line play more for a greater payout, but the underdog HAWKS +4.5 (-110) should be taken with the insurance in a game that’ll come down to Toronto’s 3-point shooters against Atlanta’s 3-point defense.

The Hawks failed to cover in each of their three straight losses coming into the weekend, but they’re still 11-11 ATS for the season while the Raptors are just 9-13 even after three straight covers in double-digit victories.

Over/Under (O/U)

Back the UNDER 222.5 (-105). The Raptors have hit four straight Overs, but their 3-point shooting is likely to struggle against the Hawks’ strong perimeter defense.

The Hawks also have a big edge in rebounding and will look to slow this down with their 20th-ranked pace of 99.0 possessions per game.

Utah Jazz at Atlanta Hawks odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Utah Jazz at Atlanta Hawks NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Utah Jazz (16-5) stop by State Farm Arena Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. ET game against the Atlanta Hawks (10-11). Below, we analyze the Jazz-Hawks NBA odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Jazz rebounded after a loss to the Denver Nuggets Sunday snapped their 11-game win streak. They beat the Detroit Pistons 117-105 Tuesday but missed the cover by a half-point. Over its last 10 games, Utah is second in net rating, rebounding percentage and true shooting percentage.

Atlanta lost its second straight game Wednesday night to the Dallas Mavericks 122-116 as 2-point home underdogs. The Hawks are 5-5 straight up but 6-4 against the spread over their last 10 games but aside from the Mavs, the other four losses were against teams with above-.500 records.

Utah is 3-1 vs. Atlanta since the Hawks selected PG Trae Young in the 2018 NBA Draft, and won both meetings last season, but is 2-2 ATS in those games.

Jazz at Hawks: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Jazz 117, Hawks 103

Money line (ML)

PASS since I like the Jazz but no way I’d lay -350 on their money line.

Against the spread (ATS)

There are a few reasons why I’m on the JAZZ -7.5 (-120) in this spot.

First, the Hawks thrive at the charity stripe, leading the league in FTA/FGA rate and Young—who has attempted the most free throws in the NBA—is a big part of that.

However, Utah has the second-best defensive FTA/FGA rate and Young has struggled against the Jazz thus far in his career. He is averaging 21.3 points on .333/.310/.759% shooting with a 98 offensive rating in four career games vs. Utah.

Second, Atlanta has been a bad bet when playing with no rest. The Hawks have the lowest cover percentage and worst ATS margin in the second of a back-to-back since the beginning of last season.

Lastly, the Jazz have the highest offensive rebounding percentage in the Association whereas the Hawks give up the third-most offensive rebounds per game.

TAKE JAZZ -7.5 (-120) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

If I’m going to take a big ATS favorite to cover, I generally lean to the Under because typically the game is essentially decided early in the fourth quarter. Also, it has been profitable fading the public misconception of Atlanta being a high-octane offense.

The regular fan sees Young’s 30-plus foot bombs but maybe hasn’t noticed Atlanta is 24th in effective field-goal percentage and has a 6-15 O/U record.

I lean UNDER 225.5 (-110) for a quarter-unit.

Mavericks at Hawks: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hawks 111, Mavericks 107

Money line (ML)

The HAWKS (+105) were outclassed against the Los Angeles Lakers Monday, falling 107-99 for a non-cover, but they’re still 3-1 ATS across their past four games, and 6-2 ATS over their previous eight. Unlike PG Luke Doncic‘s Mavs, this team has shown some fight against good teams and is just coming up a little short.

If you toss your hard-earned bread on one team, make it Atlanta.

Against the spread (ATS)

Back the HAWKS +1.5 (-105) with a point of insurance in the event of a loss. The extra security doesn’t cost much more than backing the Hawks for the upset on the money line.

Over/Under (O/U)

The lean is to UNDER 223.5 (-110), which has cashed in three of the past four games for both teams. Dallas was on a 4-0 Over run from Jan. 20-25, but the Mavs have since tightened up defensively to respectability. Atlanta ranks 11th in the NBA, yielding just 110.0 points per game, and is second in the league in 3-point shooting defense at 32.1% allowed.
