Hawks at Suns: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Suns 119, Hawks 106

Money line (ML)

The Suns (-250) will cost you two-and-a-half times your potential return, and that’s just too much. Look to the spread instead. AVOID.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The SUNS -6.5 (-110) are a strong play laying the points on their home hardwood. They’re 19-7 ATS across the past 26 as a favorite, and 21-8 ATS over the previous 29 outings. In addition, they have bounced back nicely after non-covers, going 7-0 ATS in the past seven following an ATS loss.

The Hawks +6.5 (-110) are coming off a 126-102 beating in Denver, not even coming close to covering as a five-point underdog. They’re 1-3 SU/ATS on the past four games on the road, and they just don’t seem to match up with some of the better Western Conference teams. The road trip will get worse, as the Suns rough them up by double digits in the Valley.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 222.5 (-110) is the slight lean here. Atlanta has really struggled defensively, including 126 points allowed last time out. They have coughed up 108 or more in each of the past four, with the Over hitting in three of those games. The Over is 6-2 in Atlanta’s past eight on the road, too.

Atlanta Hawks at Denver Nuggets odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Atlanta Hawks at Denver Nuggets NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Atlanta Hawks (23-22) drop by the Ball Arena for a 9 p.m. ET tip-off with the Denver Nuggets (27-18). Below, we analyze the Hawks-Nuggets odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Atlanta is 2-2 overall and against the spread (ATS) through the first four games of its eight-game Western Conference road trip including a 124-108 whooping of a Stephen Curry-less Golden State Warriors Friday.

The Hawks have been one of the hotter teams in the league since making former assistant Nate McMillan interim head coach March 2. Over that stretch, Atlanta is 9-2 overall and 7-3-1 ATS.

The Nuggets also have split their previous four games straight-up and ATS entering Sunday and are 6-3 overall (4-5 ATS) since the All-Star break.

Atlanta beat Denver 123-115 as 2.5-point home underdogs Feb. 21, and the Hawks have covered three of four and eight of 10 meetings with the Nuggets.

Hawks at Nuggets: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 11:30 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Hawks +145 (bet $100 to win $145) | Nuggets -175 (bet $175 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Hawks +4 (-110) | Nuggets -4 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 222.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Hawks at Nuggets: Key injuries

Hawks

  • SF De’Andre Hunter (knee) questionable
  • SG Cam Reddish (Achilles) out
  • SG Lou Williams (acquisition) out

Nuggets

Hawks at Nuggets: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hawks 116, Nuggets 111

Money line (ML)

Slight LEAN toward HAWKS (+145) for a one-fifth unit, if at all, because I like Atlanta to cover the spread here.

Hawks big Clint Capela is very familiar with Nuggets big Nikola Jokic from his days with the Houston Rockets, and Capela has matched Jokic’s production.

In their 16 head-to-head meetings, Capela is averaging 14.9 points and 10.9 rebounds per game while Jokic is putting up 16.7 points per game on 48.9% shooting with 9.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game.

Jokic is an MVP frontrunner this season, and Capela held him to 15 points on 33.3% shooting in the first Hawks-Nuggets meeting Feb. 21.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Definitely bet the HAWKS +4 (-110) heavier than or instead of the spread.

New head coach McMillan’s scheme seems to be working with this young Atlanta team, and the Hawks play well on the road against quality opponents (5-2 ATS in away games against above-.500 teams).

Also, we have a fade the market play as around 80% of the money wagered is on the Nuggets, but the Hawks have been brought down from getting 4.5 points on the opener, according to Pregame.com.

BET HAWKS +4 (-110)

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN OVER 222.5 (-110) for the same reason I’m betting Atlanta to cover: The market is hammering the Under here.

The Hawks-Nuggets opened up at 228.5 and has been brought down a touchdown by overnight action. While I agree the opening total was too high, my instinct is to fade a market this one-sided.

BET OVER 222.5 (-110) for a half-unit.

Atlanta Hawks at Golden State Warriors odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Atlanta Hawks at Golden State Warriors NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Golden State Warriors (22-23) host the Atlanta Hawks (22-22) Friday at 10 p.m. ET game in the Chase Center. Below, we analyze the Hawks-Warriors odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

This is Atlanta’s fourth game of an 8-game Western Conference road trip and the Hawks have lost two straight after beating the Los Angeles Lakers 99-94 Saturday in a game LeBron James exited after spraining his ankle.

Since naming Nate McMillan interim head coach on March 2, Atlanta is 8-2 overall and ATS.

Golden State upset the Memphis Grizzlies 116-103 March 19 without Steph Curry but have lost three in a row since, all without Curry in the lineup. The Warriors are just 3-4 overall and ATS after the All-Star break.

The Hawks pummeled the Warriors in their only meeting last season 104-79, but Golden State was without both Curry and Draymond Green for that game.

Hawks at Warriors: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 5:58 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Hawks -250 (bet $250 to win $100) | Warriors +200 (bet $100 to win $200)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Hawks -6.5 (-110) | Warriors +6.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 218.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Hawks at Warriors: Key injuries

Hawks

  • SF De’Andre Hunter (knee) probable
  • SG Cam Reddish (Achilles) out
  • SG Lou Williams (acquisition) out

Warriors

  • PF Draymond Green (illness) questionable
  • PF Eric Paschall (illness) questionable
  • PG Stephen Curry (tailbone) out

Hawks at Warriors: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hawks 112, Warriors 101

Money line (ML)

PASS because the Warriors (+200) are 1-5 overall when Steph Curry has been out of the lineup but Hawks (-250) is a no-go.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Golden State essentially needs to get lucky on offense to put up points without Curry and Atlanta crushed the Warriors last year when Curry was out with injury.

According to CleaningTheGlass.com, Curry is in the 100th percentile of guards in on-off rating for team net points per 100 possessions and effective field goal shooting (eFG%).

Also, the Hawks have the 2nd-highest FTA/FG rate and the Warriors have the 29th-ranked defensive FTA/FG rate so there’s a solid chance Atlanta racks up a ton of points at the charity stripe.

BET HAWKS -6.5 (-110) for a half-unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 218.5 (-110) is the best bet in Hawks-Warriors, especially if Draymond cannot play.

We’ve already discussed how limited Golden State is offensively when Curry doesn’t play but Atlanta is only 20th in eFG% as a team whereas the Warriors have the 9th-ranked defensive rating and are 5th in defensive eFG%.

Additionally, the Hawks are 5-6 O/U as a road favorite and the Warriors are 4-7 O/U as a home underdog.

Finally, this is a Pros vs. Joes scenario in the betting market as more money has been wagered on the Under but more bets have been placed on the Over, according to Pregame.com.

Typically, the sharp side of the gambling market is the money column and the average joe represents the bets placed column. Obviously, we want to follow the sharp money here.

GIMME UNDER 219.5 (-110) for 1 unit.

Hawks at Lakers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Lakers 114, Hawks 104

Money line (ML)

The LAKERS (-190) are just a shade over my personal money line limit, but the price isn’t too unreasonable.

Sometimes it’s nice to just play a game straight up, and taking the defensive-minded champs on their home floor is a good play.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The LAKERS -4.5 (-110) are a strong play as they look to push their cover streak to six games.

They have won each of their past three games by at least 11 points, with an average winning margin of 19.3 points per game. These teams played Feb. 1 in Atlanta, with the Lakers picking up a 107-99 victory and covered as 7-point favorites as the Under (219) connected.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 223.5 (-110) is the play, as this total is a tad high. The first meeting went well Under, and the Under is on a 3-1 run for the Lakers over their past four outings.

L.A. is allowing just 106.3 PPG to rank second in the NBA. It’s also seventh in defensive field-goal percentage at 45.5%, and sixth against the three at 35.3%.

Atlanta is also on a 3-1 Under run across its past four.

Oklahoma City Thunder at Atlanta Hawks odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Oklahoma City Thunder at Atlanta Hawks NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Oklahoma City Thunder (17-23) drops by the State Farm Arena for a 7:30 p.m. ET game against Atlanta Hawks (20-20) Thursday. Below, we analyze the Thunder-Hawks odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Oklahoma City has split its previous four games since the All-Star break 2-2 SU and ATS with the most recent contest being a 123-102 blowout loss at the Chicago Bulls.

The Thunder beat down the Hawks 118-109 at home, Feb. 26, as 5.5-point underdogs.

Atlanta has won six straight (4-1-1 ATS), all of which coming after they replaced former head coach Lloyd Pierce with interim coach Nate McMillan  March 2.

Over that span, the Hawks are 4th in net rating, 5th in rebounding percentage and 10th in effective field goal shooting.

Thunder at Hawks: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 12:45 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Thunder +230 (bet $100 to win $230) | Hawks -275 (bet $275 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Thunder +7 (-110) | Hawks -7 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 225.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Thunder at Hawks: Key injuries

Thunder

  • SF Luguentz Dort (toe) questionable

Thunder at Hawks: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Thunder 118, Hawks 111

Money line (ML)

Oklahoma City PG Shai Gilgeous-Alexander did a splendid job in his head-to-head matchup against Atlanta PG Trae Young in the first Thunder-Hawks meeting this season.

Young is 3rd in the Association in free-throw attempts per game yet SGA held Young to zero free throw attempts and minus-18.5 net rating while SGA had a plus-10.8 net rating in the game.

Finally, the Hawks are due for a loss, and Thursday is a good spot to fade them. Following this game, Atlanta heads on an 8-game road trip with the next two being in the Staples Center against both Los Angeles basketball teams.

OKC is a live ‘dog in this one and I lean THUNDER (+230) for a one-fifth-unit because I like them to cover.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

This is a good spot for OKC, which is surprisingly feisty on the road. The Thunder have the 3rd-highest cover rate as a road team with a plus-4.4-point ATS margin.

Additionally, OKC has covered three of the past four meetings with Atlanta and is 10-3 ATS this season on the road vs. winning teams.

GIMME THUNDER +7 (-110) for 1.25 units.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS with a lean on the Over 225.5 (-110) because OKC has gone Under in three of its past four games, Atlanta three of its last five and the Over has cashed in the last seven Thunder-Hawks contests.

I’m passing because I prefer the sides more than the total in this game.

Cavaliers at Hawks: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hawks 113, Cavaliers 101

Money line (ML)

The Hawks (-250) are a little on the expensive side, as they will cost you two and a half times your potential return. That’s way past my personal money line limit of -180.

Plus, the Cavaliers (+200) just beat the Hawks on Feb. 23 in Cleveland by a 112-111 count, winning straight up as a 7.5-point underdog.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The HAWKS -6 (-110) lost straight up to the Cavaliers +6 (-110) in Cleveland on Feb. 23, and Cleveland is 5-1 ATS across the past six games overall.

Atlanta heads in on a four-game win streak, and they have covered each of its past three contests at home. Look for Atlanta to exact a little revenge.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 223.5 (-110) is the way to go, as Cleveland looked pretty tired and disinterested in Friday’s 116-82 loss in New Orleans.

The Cavaliers have also hit the Under in seven of the last nine games overall, including their win over the Hawks on Feb. 23. The Under is also 7-2 in Cleveland’s past nine as a ‘dog, and 4-1 in their past five meetings with Atlanta.

Atlanta Hawks at Orlando Magic odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Atlanta Hawks at Orlando Magic NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Atlanta Hawks (15-20) travel to meet the Orlando Magic (13-22) on Wednesday for an 8 p.m. tip-off at Amway Center in Orlando. Below, we analyze the Hawks-Magic odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Hawks at Magic: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Magic 112, Hawks 107

Money line (ML)

The MAGIC (+140) are a good play on their home court as short ‘dogs. The Hawks (-160) are playing on back-to-back nights in Florida after winning a low-scoring 94-80 game in Miami Tuesday night. They’re playing their third game in four days, and rust could be a factor for Atlanta.

The Magic are a little banged up. Fournier left Monday’s game briefly due to a groin injury, although he was able to return. Still, his lower-body ailment is a concern since he is an integral part of the offense in O-Town.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The MAGIC +4 (-110) are catching two buckets from the Hawks -4 (-110). Orlando slinks in on a four-game losing skid, and they’re just 1-3 ATS across the past four, including 0-2 ATS in the past two at home. There is risk on both sides, however.

Atlanta enters 1-4 ATS in the past five trips to Orlando, and 2-6 ATS in the previous eight meetings. The Hawks are also 5-13 ATS in the previous 18 when playing on no rest. Just go lightly.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 224.5 (-110) is the play, as Atlanta could have some tired legs on its third game in four days. The Under is 10-4 in Atlanta’s past 14 as a favorite, while Orlando has hit the Under in four of the past five at home against teams with a losing road mark.

Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Miami Heat (16-17) host the Atlanta Hawks (14-19) Sunday at American Airlines Arena for the first game of a two-game miniseries. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Hawks-Heat odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Atlanta started February with a winning record but has gone on three- and four-game losing streaks this month. The Hawks have alternated between winning and losing over their last seven games (3-4 straight up and against the spread) and are coming off a 118-109 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder as 5.5-point road favorites Friday.

The Heat have started to look like the team many NBA experts forecasted before the season and are winners of five in a row (5-0 ATS). Their most recent win was as impressive of a victory as you can have at this point in the season; Miami took down the white-hot Utah Jazz 124-116 as a 6.5-point home underdog Friday.

The Hawks won the final head-to-head meeting last season but lost the other three games to the Heat and were 1-3 ATS in the season series.

Hawks at Heat: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 11:50 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Hawks +200 (bet $100 to win $200) | Heat -250 (bet $250 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Hawks +6.5 (-115) | Heat -6.5 (-105)

Hawks at Heat: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Heat 119, Hawks 107

Money line (ML)

PASS because Miami is the right side but betting the Heat at -250 is a bad long-term strategy. “Crazy” stuff happens all the time in the NBA regular season.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The HEAT -6.5 (-105) are starting to dial-in offensively and there are several holes they can poke in the Hawks defense.

For example, Atlanta doesn’t force a lot of turnovers (27th in turnover rate), it sends opponents to the foul line (19th in defensive FTA/FG rate) and the Hawks are 26th in defensive effective field-goal percentage this month.

Miami is getting healthier and starting to look like last year’s team. The Heat averaged 120 points per game in back-to-back wins over an above-average Toronto Raptors defense and an elite Jazz D prior to Sunday’s game.

TAKE the HEAT -6.5 (-105) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

This part of the handicap is a little more reliant on the injury report because I’ll like the OVER 219.5 (-110) a little less if Young can’t play.

Miami’s offense has it going and Atlanta’s defense has declined this month. The Hawks will need to match the Heat’s scoring so even if Young is out, we should see a high volume of threes from Atlanta.

BET OVER 219.5 (-110) for a half-unit.

Hawks at Thunder: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Thunder 112, Hawks 108

Money line (ML)

The Hawks, despite being favored in this game, have lost four of their last five games on the road. The Thunder are only 5-10 this season at home but have split their last eight home games, going 4-4 in that stretch. Go with the value here and take the THUNDER +165.

https://www.vegasinsider.com/nba/teams/team-page.cfm/team/thunder

https://www.teamrankings.com/nba/trends/ats_trends/

Oklahoma City has done better against the spread this season, despite being six games under .500 overall, they are 17-14-1 ATS, while the Hawks are an even 16-16 ATS. Atlanta has alternated cover the spread and not in each of its last five games. Since we have the Thunder winning outright, take THUNDER +4.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

The Thunder’s last four games and seven of the last eight have gone Under. Both teams are an identical 15-17 O/U, although nine of Atlanta’s last 10 games have gone Over. The two teams combine to average 221.4 points per game. That is below Friday’s total. Take UNDER 223.5 POINTS (-110).

Celtics at Hawks: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Celtics 116, Hawks 111

Money line (ML)

The CELTICS (-160) head to Atlanta looking to get well on the road. The C’s have dropped five straight on the road dating back to Feb. 5, including Tuesday’s 110-107 loss in Dallas. The Hawks (+135) have a quick turnaround, too, after suffering a one-point loss in Cleveland Tuesday. Look for Boston to push past Atlanta for the road win.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The CELTICS -3.5 (-110) are 0-5 ATS in their past five road outings, and they’re 1-8 ATS in the past nine games against a team with a losing record. However, a visit to the ATL might the cure to their ills, as the C’s are 4-0 ATS in their past four trips to Atlanta. The Celtics are 7-3 ATS in their past 10 on the second end of a back-to-back, while the Hawks are 1-5 ATS in their past six playing on no rest.

Over/Under (O/U)

Nearly all of the trends point to the OVER 227.5 (-110). The Over has cashed in four straight at home for Atlanta and eight of the past nine overall. The Over is 9-4 in Boston’s past 13 against losing teams and 6-2 in their past eight in the second end of a back-to-back. The Over is also 10-4-1 in the past 15 meetings between these teams.
