Houston Astros at New York Yankees odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Houston Astros at New York Yankees odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Houston Astros (12-24) and New York Yankees (25-13) close out a 3-game series in the Bronx Thursday. The opening pitch at Yankee Stadium is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Astros vs. Yankees odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Yankees lead 6-0

Houston got off to a shaky start this season, and that start included the Astros getting swept at home by New York in a season-opening 4-game set. Now, after Tuesday and Wednesday losses at Yankee Stadium, Houston heads into the Thursday series finale looking to avoid a 2024 0-for against the Yanks.

New York has not lost since last Thursday. Over their last 11 games, the Yankees are 8-3 with a plus-31 run differential.

Astros at Yankees projected starters

RHP Ronel Blanco vs. RHP Marcus Stroman

Blanco (3-0, 2.09 ERA) is lined up for his 7th start. He has a 0.96 WHIP, 3.7 BB/9 and 8.4 K/9 in 38 2/3 innings.

  • Owns a 3.71 ERA across 97 career IP
  • Last outing: No-decision, 6 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 6 K in 5-3 win vs. Seattle Mariners Friday

Stroman (2-1, 3.41 ERA) is making his 8th start. He has a 1.43 WHIP, 4.9 BB/9 and 8.5 K/9 in 37 innings.

  • Last outing: No-decision, 5 1/3 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 5 BB, 3 K in 2-1 win vs. Detroit Tigers Friday
  • Career vs. Astros: 3-1, 2.50 ERA (36 IP, 10 ER), 36 H, 9 BB, 38 K in 6 starts
  • Has walked 10 batters over his last 9 1/3 IP

Astros at Yankees picks and predictions

Prediction

Yankees 6, Astros 4

Moneyline

Aside from a three-game stretch April 27-30 that saw the Astros score 30 runs, Houston has scored just 2.91 runs per game since April 21. But Houston has been quite good against ground-ball types, and Stroman has walked 10 batters over his last 9 1/3 innings.

Blanco has an attractive surface ERA of 2.09. But that figure has been buoyed exceedingly fortunate rates around the margins.

Figure the YANKEES (-138) ML action as having just the slightest in lean in this contest.

Run line/Against the spread

Better relative value can be found on the ML: PASS.

Over/Under

There is some fade-Yankees-pitching lean snowballing with a play-the-Astros-offense lean. Add in some fade on the Blanco side of the equation also.

Now add Stroman being a ground-baller, and the Astros being a club that has thus far bashed such types.

The Over has cruised to 2 easy wins so far in this series and is 5-2 over the last 7 series meetings at Yankee Stadium.

TAKE THE OVER 8.5 (-110) in this series finale.

Houston Astros at New York Yankees odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Houston Astros at New York Yankees odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Houston Astros (12-23) take on the New York Yankees (24-13) Wednesday in the 2nd game of a 3-game set at Yankee Stadium at 7:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Astros vs. Yankees odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Yankees lead 5-0

The Astros dropped their 3rd-straight game Tuesday with a 10-3 setback in the opener. The Yankees mauled RHP Justin Verlander for 7 runs on 8 hits over 5 innings. While scoring 3 runs, Houston had just 3 hits in the game. A reboot may be coming if things don’t turn around soon.

The Yankees won their 4th straight and 5th in 6 games as they lead the AL in wins (24) entering Wednesday’s action. LF Alex Verdugo had 3 hits and 4 RBIs Tuesday, and RF Juan Soto smacked 3 hits of his own. Soto is hitting .329 with 8 homers and 28 RBIs in what is shaping up to potentially be an MVP season.

Astros at Yankees projected starters

RHP Spencer Arrighetti vs. LHP Carlos Rodon

Arrighetti (0-3, 8.27 ERA) makes his 5th start. The rookie has a 1.96 WHIP, 5.5 BB/9 and 11.6 K/9 in 16 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 6 K in 8-2 home win vs. Houston Astros Thursday
  • Has never faced Yankees
  • Missing bats with his curveball (.167 BA), but other pitches being hit: fastball (.333), cutter (.313), sweeper (.429) and changeup (.667)

Rodon (2-2, 3.68 ERA) makes his 8th start. He has a 1.28 WHIP, 3.4 BB/9 and 8.8 K/9 in 36 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 4 IP, 6 ER, 8 H, 0 BB, 6 K in 7-2 defeat at Baltimore Orioles Thursday
  • March 29 vs. Astros: No-decision, 4 1/3 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 4 K in 7-1 win
  • Last 5 starts vs. Astros: 2-0, 3.12 ERA (26 IP, 9 ER), 0.92 WHIP, 31 K

Astros at Yankees picks and predictions

Prediction

Yankees 9, Astros 5

Moneyline

The Yankees have won 8 straight against the Astros, dating back to last season. I look for this to be a slugfest with New York’s bats reigning supreme. The Yankees’ -155 ML isn’t priced out of my range here, but I’m going with the run line below.

PASS on a moneyline wager.

Run line/Against the spread

Over the last 10 head-to-head meetings, the Yankees have won 9, and 6 of those were by multiple runs. Over their last 10 overall, they’ve won 7, and 6 of those were by multiple runs.

Take YANKEES -1.5 (+125).

Over/Under

The wind is slated to be blowing out to right-center at 9 mph on a 77-degree evening. Rodon isn’t as good as his numbers suggest with a .273 BABIP and 4.78 FIP. Arrighetti has been terrible. This one goes OVER 9.5 (-105).

Houston Astros at New York Yankees odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Houston Astros at New York Yankees odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Houston Astros (12-22) and New York Yankees (23-13) meet Tuesday, as they open a 3-game series in the Bronx. First pitch from Yankee Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET (TBS). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Astros vs. Yankees odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Yankees lead 4-0

Houston got off to an awful start this season, one jumpstarted by the Astros getting swept at home by New York in a season-opening 4-game set. They had gone 5-1 from April 27-May 3 but then dropped back-to-back games to the Seattle Mariners Saturday and Sunday.

The Yankees are coming off a weekend sweep of the Detroit Tigers. Despite some intermittent slumps of late, New York is 6-3 with a plus-19 run differential since April 27.

Astros at Yankees projected starters

RHP Justin Verlander vs. RHP Luis Gil

Verlander (1-0, 2.08 ERA) is tabbed for his 4th start. He has a 1.15 WHIP, 3.6 BB/9 and 6.8 K/9 in 17 1/3 innings.

  • Last outing: No-decision, 7 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 3 BB, 2 K in 3-2 loss vs. Cleveland Guardians Wednesday
  • Career vs. Yankees: 10-9, 3.41 ERA (171 1/3 IP, 65 ER), 160 H, 50 BB, 157 K in 27 starts

Gil (2-1, 3.19 ERA) is making his 7th start. He has a 1.19 WHIP, 5.8 BB/9 and 11.6 K/9 in 31 innings.

  • Last outing: Win, 6 1/3 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 5 K in 2-0 win at Baltimore Orioles Wednesday
  • Has never faced Astros before
  • Has lived dangerously with a low rate of 1st-pitch strikes, which has fed into the high walk rate; a .224 batting average on balls in play has been his salvation

Astros at Yankees picks and predictions

Prediction

Astros 5, Yankees 4

Moneyline

The ASTROS (+100) are 4-1 across their last 5 series lid-lifters; the Yanks are 1-3 in their last 4.

Gil’s control is too much of an issue to make him a likable play against a good Houston offense that does not strike out much. Dating back to last season, the Astros have lost 7 in a row to New York. All 7 of those games have been in Houston; the Astros took 2 of 3 from the Yankees last time they were in the Bronx (Aug. 4-6).

Per ESPN, current New York batters own an aggregate .558 OPS against Verlander. The veteran righty is backed by an Astros relief corps that got a much-needed off day Monday. And figure those bullpens — a New York strength and Houston weakness on paper — as being way more even in talent and in analytical production.

BACK THE ASTROS (+100).

Run line/Against the spread

Better relative value can be found on the ML: PASS.

Over/Under

The Under went 3-0-1 in the earlier series in Houston. Look for some pushback by the bats in this one. There is some fade-Yankees-pitching lean snowballing with play-the-Astros-offense lean.

TAKE THE OVER 8 (-115).

Houston Astros at New York Yankees odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Houston Astros at New York Yankees odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Astros (63-49) and New York Yankees (58-53) complete a 4-game set at Yankee Stadium Sunday. First pitch is at 1:35 p.m. ET (Prime Video). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Astros vs. Yankees odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Yankees lead 2-1

The Astros have dropped 2 of 3 to the Yankees in the series. They fell 4-3 Thursday but rebounded with a 7-1 victory Friday. They weren’t able to muster up much in a 3-1 defeat Saturday. The Astros sit 2 1/2 games out in the AL West but reside in the 2nd AL Wild Card spot. They are 5-5 and 12-8 over the last 10 and 20 games, respectively.

The Yankees have won 3 of 4 but are just 9-11 over their last 20 games. They sit in 4th place in the AL East and 3 1/2 out of a Wild Card spot. The Yanks have been good at home at 35-27. New York is also 16-12 against the AL West.

Astros at Yankees projected starters

RHP Jose Urquidy vs. LHP Carlos Rodon

Urquidy (2-2, 5.20 ERA) makes his 7th start. He has a 1.55 WHIP, 3.3 BB/9 and 7.5 K/9 in 27 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 5 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 3 K against Philadelphia Phillies April 30
  • First start off IL due to shoulder inflammation
  • 1 career start vs. Yankees: 7 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 3 BB, 3 K on June 26, 2022

Rodon (1-4, 6.29 ERA) makes his 6th start. He has a 1.48 WHIP, 5.9 BB/9 and 7.4 K/9 in 24 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 4 IP, 4 ER, 4 H, 4 BB, 5 K Monday against Tampa Bay Rays
  • Last 5 starts vs. Astros: 1-0, 1.85 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 35 K in 34 IP

Astros at Yankees picks and predictions

Prediction

Astros 4, Yankees 3

Moneyline

The Astros get Urquidy back for the first time since April 30. On the other side, Rodon has struggled mightily since he started the year on the IL. The Astros are 6-4 against the Yankees the last 2 years and are overall in a better position to tie this series as the Yanks had to get 5 innings from their bullpen Saturday night.

Take the ASTROS (-105).

Run line/Against the spread

This has been a competitive series, and I don’t look for a multiple-run victory Sunday. That said, I also am not a fan of spending -185 for the Yanks to get a run of insurance.

PASS.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

The Astros are 5-5 O/U over the last 10, and the Yanks are 4-6. The Over is just 3-7 over the last 10 meetings between the teams. Houston has scored 3 or fewer runs in 6 of the last 9 games. The Yankees have scored 3 or fewer in 7 of 10. These offenses aren’t clicking enough for me to expect 10 runs.

I’ll LEAN UNDER 9 (-105).

Houston Astros at New York Yankees odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Houston Astros at New York Yankees odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Houston Astros (45-26) battle for supremacy against the New York Yankees (52-20) Sunday in the finale of a 4-game set at Yankee Stadium. First pitch is set for 1:35 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Astros vs. Yankees odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Houston leads the series 2-1.

Let’s just get the elephant out of the room right now. How many of you wish you placed a bet on the Astros no-hitting the Yankees at Yankee Stadium Saturday? The Astros threw a combined no-hitter against the Bronx Bombers just like they did in 2003 with the likes of Roy Oswalt, Brad Lidge, Octavio Dotel and Billy Wagner.

I’d hate to be the starter on the mound Sunday because the Yankees are going to be mad. RHP Gerrit Cole threw 7 solid innings and struck out 8, but the Astros weren’t having it. RHP Cristian Javier allowed 1 walk and struck out 13 over 7 hitless/scoreless innings, and Hector Neris and Ryan Pressley closed the door on history.

Astros at Yankees projected starters

RHP Jose Urquidy vs. LHP Nestor Cortes

Urquidy (6-3, 4.68 ERA) makes his 14th start on the season. He has a 1.46 WHIP, 1.7 BB/9 and 7.0 K/9 in 67 1/3 innings.

  • Won his last start vs. the New York Mets June 21 with 6 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 1 BB and 5 K.
  • Has a 6.28 road ERA vs. a 2.51 home ERA this season

Cortes (6-3, 2.31 ERA) makes his 14th start of the year. He has a 0.96 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9 and 9.5 K/9 in 74 innings.

  • “Nasty Nestor” has been touched for 4 ER in 2 of his last 3 starts
  • He’s 3-0 with a 1.53 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 10.7 K/9 at home

Astros at Yankees picks and predictions

Prediction

Yankees 6, Astros 4

Money line

The Yankees will respond and Urquidy’s first start against them is likely to be rough. Cortes has been hittable lately, but not at home. In fact, the Yankees are a robust 30-9 at home this year. They’re also 6-0 in Cortes’ home starts. Skip the -160 money line. This won’t need extras. Take the YANKEES FIRST 9 INNINGS (-140).

Win your fantasy baseball league with BaseballHQ.com. For decades, BHQ has been helping players just like you win! Use the couple code SBW22 for 20% OFF full-season subscription. New customer offer; expires 6/30/2022. Subscribe today and start winning!

Run line/Against the spread

We’re picking the Yankees to win by more than 1, but the Yankees are 18-21 on the run line at home. There’s some value at +125, and that’s hard to find with the Yankees at home. But the Astros are an excellent team. Stick with the first 9. PASS.

Over/Under

The weather is calling for 90 degrees and an 11-mph gust towards the left-field foul pole. The Over is 3-1-1 in the last 5 meetings in New York. The Over is also 3-0-1 in Urquidy’s last 4 road starts against a team with a winning record. The Under hit in the last 2 meetings of this series, but the Yankees cashed the Over in 5 of 8 before that. We’ll LEAN OVER 8.5 (-130).

Houston Astros at New York Yankees odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Houston Astros at New York Yankees odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Houston Astros (43-25) travel to Yankee Stadium Thursday to begin a 4-game series with the New York Yankees (51-18) at 7:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Astros vs. Yankees odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Houston won an interleague back-to-back vs. the New York Mets Tuesday-Wednesday and the Astros are 7-3 straight up (SU) over their last 10 games.

The Yankees stole the rubber match of their 3-game set with the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 Wednesday keyed by a 2-run home run by C Jose Trevino in the top of the 8th inning. N.Y. is 8-2 SU over the last 10.

The Yankees beat the Astros in last year’s season series 4-2 and N.Y. had a plus-8 run differential in those meetings.

Astros at Yankees projected starters

LHP Framber Valdez vs. RHP Jameson Taillon

Valdez is 7-3 with a 2.78 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9 and 7.6 K/9 in 81 IP over 13 starts.

  • Last start: Wonn 13-3 at home vs. the Chicago White Sox June 17 with 5 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 2 HR, 3 BB and 3 K.
  • 2021 vs. the Yankees: One start, a no-decision in Houston’s 8-7 home win July 11 with 4 IP, 3 R (2 ER), 6 H, 1 HR, 6 BB and 5 K.

Taillon is 8-1 with a 2.70 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 1.1 BB/9 and 7.4 K/9 in 73 1/3 IP over 13 starts.

  • Last start: Won 4-0 Saturday at the Toronto Blue Jays with 5 2/3 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 2 BB and 8 K.
  • 2021 vs. the Astros: One start, a no-decision in N.Y.’s 8-7 road loss July 11 with 6 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 2 HR, 2 BB and 4 K.

Astros at Yankees picks and predictions

Prediction

Yankees 5, Astros 3

Money line

BET the YANKEES (-130) because they have edges in the starting pitching and hitting departments. Taillon had a better outing than Valdez in last year’s Astros-Yankees July 11 meeting.

Taillon has a .187/.241/.297 expected batting average (xBA), wOBA (xwOBA) and slugging percentage (xSLG) slash line with a 20.0 K% and 88.6 mph exit velocity (EV) in 45 plate appearances (PA) vs. current Astros, per statcast.

Valdez has a .233/.321/.327 xBA-xwOBA-xSLG slash line with a 13.3 K% and 89.0 mph EV in 60 PA vs. active Yankees.

Also, the Yankees are 9-0 SU at home vs. lefty starters with a plus-1.9 margin of victory and the Astros are 2-3 SU as road underdogs vs. righty starters.

BET the YANKEES (-130).

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

The Astros +1.5 (-190) are 6-1 RL as underdogs and the Yankees -1.5 (+155) are just 18-18 RL as home favorites. Granted, N.Y.’s RL is a juicy payout but it’s tough laying -1.5 against this Houston team.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 8.5 (-115) only because I prefer N.Y.’s ML and the Over 8.5 (-107) appears to be the sharper side of the total.

However, Astros-Yankees have a combined 10-16 O/U record when these starters are on the hill, Houston is 3-6 O/U as underdogs and N.Y. is 16-20 RL as home favorites.

Houston Astros at New York Yankees odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Houston Astros at New York Yankees odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Houston Astros (15-13) and New York Yankees (14-14) open a three-game series Tuesday at Yankee Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET (on ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Astros vs. Yankees odds with MLB picks and predictions.

This is the first meeting between the two clubs since the Astros eliminated the Yankees 4 games to 2 in the 2019 best-of-7 AL Championship Series.

Both teams had Monday off. The Astros lost 5-4 at the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday after taking the first two of the series. The Yankees shut out the visiting Detroit Tigers 2-0 Sunday to complete a 3-game sweep for their third win in a row.

RHP Zack Greinke is Houston’s projected starter for the opener. The 18-year veteran is 2-1 with a 3.44 ERA (36 2/3 IP, 14 ER), 1.15 WHIP, 6.6 K/9 and 1.5 BB/9 in 6 starts this season.

  • Last outing: No-decision, 4 IP, 4 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 5 K vs. Seattle Mariners Wednesday – Astros won 7-5
  • Career vs. Yankees (regular season): 4-4, 5.05 ERA (71 1/3 IP, 40 ER), 1.33 WHIP, 6.9 K/9 in 12 starts and 3 relief appearances

RHP Domingo German is slated to start for New York. He is 2-2 with a 4.05 ERA (20 IP, 9 ER), 1.30 WHIP, 8.6 K/9 and 1.8 BB/9 in 4 starts.

  • Last outing: Win, 7 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 6 K in 7-0 shutout at Baltimore Orioles Wednesday
  • Career vs. Astros: 0-1, 3.86 ERA (11 2/3 IP, 5 ER), 13 H, 3 BB, 12 K in 3 games, including 1 start

  • Against the spread/ATS: Astros -1.5 (+155) | Yankees +1.5 (-190)
  • Over/Under: 9 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Prediction

Astros 4, Yankees 2

Money line (ML)

HOUSTON (+100) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager. Not only are the Astros 5-1 in Greinke’s starts, they are the better offensive team. They’re scoring 4.93 runs per game and hitting .253 to rank 2nd and 4th, respectively, in the AL.

The Yankees average 3.93 runs per game with a .221 batting average to rank 13th and 11th in the AL, respectively.

Sure, German is coming off one of the best starts of his career, but it was against the Orioles, who average 3.82 runs per game (14th in AL) with a .228 batting average (9th).

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Back HOUSTON -1.5 (+155) with a HALF-UNIT wager. The Astros’ last six wins were by at least 2 runs.

ATS records: Astros 14-14 | Yankees 13-15

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 9 (-115) is the play. Thanks to New York’s offensive struggles, the Under is 9-5 at Yankee Stadium this season.

The Under is also 3-1 in German’s starts; it’s 3-3 when Greinke takes the hill for Houston.

O/U records: Astros 15-12-1 | Yankees 10-18
