Saints to bring in Sio Moore as training camp assistant coach

The New Orleans Saints announced they are bringing in Sio Moore, one of Dennis Allen’s former players, as an assistant coach for training camp:

The New Orleans Saints have announced in a press release that that they will be bringing in Sio Moore, a former NFL linebacker and third-round draft pick, to assist with the team’s coaching staff during training camp and preseason drills.

Moore was a phenomenal linebacker for the UConn Huskies during his collegiate playing days, having a breakout season in 2010 with 110 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, an interception, and two fumble recoveries. His senior season was insanely impressive though, as he posted 72 tackles, 15.5 for a loss, 8.0 sacks, and 11 pass deflections in 12 games. He would go on to be picked by the Raiders, and played there for two seasons under now-Saints head coach Dennis Allen.

He went on to have a four-year NFL career, playing with the Raiders, Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs and Arizona Cardinals as well as spending time with the Houston Texans in 2017 before being calling it a career.

Moore will be participating in the Bill Walsh NFL Diversity Coaching Fellowship, which is a program that for 30 years has had the focus of giving more chances to coaching hopefuls. The goal is to have prospective coaches go into training camps, minicamps, and offseason workout events for teams and give them the chance to learn from active coaching regimes, and potentially land a job either with that team or another around the league. Presuming that he will work with his old position at linebacker, Moore will have the chance to learn under five-year veteran coach Michael Hodges.

Saints assistant Jordan Traylor has a new assignment in 2024

New Orleans Saints assistant coach Jordan Traylor has a new assignment in 2024: working with the quarterbacks

The New Orleans Saints are hiring within their own staff as Jordan Traylor has been promoted to the assistant quarterbacks coach, replacing D.J. Williams, per 247 Sports’ Matt Zenitz.

Traylor played college football at Texas A&M as a quarterback, and has been with New Orleans for five years now. He spent two years as a scouting assistant before joining the coaching staff as a defensive assistant. He switched to offense last season and will now move up to his new role for 2024. It’s clear that he has made a name for himself in New Orleans as he will stick around among a lot of offensive turnover on the staff.

Traylor will work closely with recently hired quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko. It’s a positive that the Saints were able to find at least some continuity within the offensive staff as Janocko remains an up-and-coming coach at just 36 years old. Janocko could leave for a promotion of his own if Derek Carr makes rapid progress in the fall. Developing in-house replacements like Traylor is a key to sustaining success.

Detroit Lions to hire Jett Modkins as an assistant Special Teams coach

Detroit Lions to hire Jett Modkins as an assistant Special Teams coach. Modkins is the son of former Lions’ RB coach Curtis Modkins.

The Detroit Lions are planning to hire Jett Modkins as assistant Special Teams coach.

Modkins is the son of former Lions’ running backs coach Curtis Modkins and the pair coached on the Denver Broncos staff the last season. The elder Modkins was still focusing on coaching running backs, while Jett was an intern.

A former running back at Glendale (Arizona) Community College and Mesa (Arizona) Community College, Modkins’ first coaching stop was in 2019 as a defensive volunteer coach with Akron University.

In 2020, Modkins was hired as part of the Broncos Diversity Coaching Intern program and his primary responsibilities were as an offensive quality control coach.

Following the season, Modkins was part of a group of NFL assistant coaches, who took on a leadership role with the East-West Shrine Bowl Professional Development Opportunity program, which “aims to increase professional development opportunities for coaches and draft-eligible players”.

With no game this offseason due to COVID-19, this was an opportunity for Modkins to help college players hoping to make it to the NFL to “participate in various virtual training/informational drills with current NFL coaches”.

With the Lions, Modkins will continue his coaching career arc by working directly under special teams coordinator Dave Fipp, who was hired by coach Dan Campbell two weeks ago.
