The Clemson Insider has the latest on this talented four-star defensive lineman, who has caught the eye of Clemson defensive ends coach Lemanski Hall.

Cy Ranch (Cypress, Tex.) 2023 four-star defensive end Ashton Porter heard from Clemson almost immediately after the clock struck midnight on Sept. 1. It gave the Texas prospect the confirmation he needed to know that the Tigers are seriously interested, he told TCI.

Porter was patiently waiting to hear from Clemson as he’s just trying to keep his relationship going with Hall. He’s received graphics from the Tigers’ recruiting department and coaches almost every day.

“It’s great. It shows that he’s actually interested in me,” Porter said regarding hearing from Hall. “I see edits that not a lot of people get.”

Even though it may be something little like that, it gives Porter confidence that Clemson is serious about recruiting him. Clemson stands pretty high right now on his list. He’s not sure when an offer may be coming, but he believes that Hall wants to see how he performs this season and then evaluate from there.

“Some schools, I get an edit and I see another person get an edit like that,” Porter said. “Like Clemson, I don’t really see a lot of people get the same edits.”

According to Porter, Hall plans on making it out to Cypress to see him play, but he’s not quite sure when just yet. As for the date he does have set in stone, Porter’s planning on making it back to The Valley for Clemson’s home game against Florida State on Saturday, Oct. 30.

In addition to Clemson, Porter mentions Texas, Houston, Baylor and Cal as schools that are currently standing out in his recruitment. He’ll be making his first game day visit during the Texas-Texas Tech game on Saturday, Sept. 25.

He’s recently received offers from The University of Arizona and Washington State.

So far this season, Porter has totaled 15 tackles and seven quarterback pressures.

He currently ranks as the No. 29 defensive lineman in the 2023 class, per 247Sports.

Top Texas DE building ‘great’ relationship with Hall

Clemson is keeping tabs on some of the top prospects in Texas as the Tigers continue to extend their footprint in The Lone Star State.

One of those recruits is Cy Ranch (Cypress, Texas) 2023 four-star defensive end Ashton Porter, who is currently ranked as the No. 31 defensive lineman in the 2023 class, per 247Sports’ rankings.

Porter has been keeping in touch with Clemson defensive ends coach Lemanski Hall, who is planning on making the trip to Texas to see Porter play this upcoming season.

“It’s great,” Porter said of his relationship with Hall. “We talk almost every week since the visit. I’m just building a relationship with him right now.”

Porter believes that if he continues to build that relationship with Hall, then an offer will eventually come.

So far, Clemson has put forth a great first impression.

“I love it,” Porter said. “I just like how they didn’t offer me off the bat like other schools have. They want to build a relationship with me, so they get to know who I am.”

For Porter, that means a lot.

Porter spoke to Hall about getting up to Clemson for a game back on his visit. He just has to find out what game he’ll be attending first, but he’s excited for a game day in The Valley.

So what is Porter looking for in a school at the next level?

His answer was simple. He’s looking for somewhere that feels like family and where he’ll fit right into a team’s defensive scheme.

Porter sees that in Clemson so far. He would translate as a defensive end in the Tigers’ four-man front that they run.

Hall likes Porter’s ability to get off the ball, his hands and aggression, he said. All of those attributes are the aspects of Porter’s game that he prides himself on.

This season, Hall wants to see Porter play with his left hand down. Right now, Porter plays on the right side with his right hand down. He doesn’t view it as a difficult task, it’s just something he’s going to have to get used to.

Porter would like to rack up 15 sacks in 2021. He had eight sacks last season, so he’s looking to nearly double his sack total from the year before. In addition to Clemson, Porter has been on visits to Alabama, Texas A&M, Baylor, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Texas.

He currently holds offers from programs like Arizona State, Baylor, Cal, Colorado, Indiana, Michigan State, Ole Miss, SMU, Tennessee and Texas.

The Spartans have shown a lot of interest in the Texas pipeline the past few years and this player is another promising prospect out of Texas. Michigan State offered 4-star strong-side defensive end Ashton Porter Wednesday night.

Porter, who is 6’3″ and 225-pounds, attends Cy Ranch High School in his hometown of Cypress, Texas. He is the No. 23 strong-side defensive end and No. 21 player in the state of Texas for the class of 2023 on 247sports. He is also the No. 178 player in the nation for the class of 2023.

Porter has been offered by four schools so far including Arizona State, Colorado, SMU and Texas.

Porter showed significant strength and power of the edge being able to easily move his opponents out of the way to get to the backfield. Porter is also on the track team and his speed shows on the field as he uses agile moves to get by the offensive lineman. Porter will be a guy you should keep your eyes on as he looks to have a bright future.

Four-star 2023 defensive end Ashton Porter picks up offer from Texas

Texas offered four-star DE Ashton Porter on Wednesday. It is the fourth program to offer Porter, just behind ASU, Colorado, and SMU.

Defensive end is a position Texas has fallen behind on in the 2022 recruiting class. Omari Abor and Ernest Cooper, two of the best within the state, have moved on from the Longhorns in favor of other national programs. If Bo Davis wants to land a top in-state defensive end, it will have to be from the 2023 class.

The seventh offer to a 2023 defensive end was made on Wednesday to four-star Ashton Porter.

Texas is the fourth program to offer Porter, behind Arizona State, Colorado and SMU. Cypress is in the greater Houston area, meaning Texas A&M will be in the mix sooner rather than later.

In Porter’s sophomore season, he recorded 32 tackles, 11.5 of which were for a loss. Four sacks and two fumbles led to him being unanimously named  Texas 16-6A first-team all district.

247Sports is the only recruiting website to have Porter ranked. Listed as a strong side defensive end, he is the No. 23 player at his position. Nationally, Porter lands at No. 178 and is ranked as the No. 21 prospect within the state of Texas.

With the NCAA dead period potentially being lifted, recruits are going to be allowed on campuses to see when they would possibly be spending the next three to four years of their lives. Four-star running back Rueben Owens, Texas’ only 2023 commit, has begun to round up names to see Austin.
