A run of four successive Premier League draws has left 10th place Arsenal level on points with Newcastle United as the Magpies prepare to visit Emirates Stadium on Sunday. Mikel Arteta’s men return to action following their inaugural mid-season break and hope to secure its first top-flight win since beating Manchester United 2-0 on New Year’s Day.

The Gunners are 10 points off the top four with 13 matches remaining, and a win in Week 26 will be considered a must given Steve Bruce’s side will climb ahead of the team should it fail.

Newcastle has lost its last seven visits to Emirates Stadium and failed to score in the last three, having last emerged as victors there in November 2010. That being said, Newcastle is undefeated in eight games across all competitions and secured draws vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton in its last two Premier League away trips.

Steve Bruce has faced Arsenal more than any other team during his managerial career—this will be his 29th encounter—although his record doesn’t stir much encouragement. He’s beaten the North Londoners just twice in 20 years, once with Birmingham City in May 2005 and again at Sunderland in November 2009. Bruce’s teams have also failed to score in their last three clashes against the Gunners, most recently losing 1-0 at St. James’ Park in August.

January loan signing Pablo Mari could make his debut at Emirates. The Flamengo center-back hasn’t played since December, meaning Shkodran Mustafi is in contention to keep his place alongside David Luiz in central defense.

Fellow winter arrival Cedric Soares will not make his Arsenal debut just yet, having arrived from Southampton carrying an injury. Kieran Tierney and Reiss Nelson are also certain to miss out, while Bukayo Saka and Sead Kolasinac are in the running at left-back.

Newcastle’s injury list is more extensive, and Bruce is hoping he’ll have 2019 signings Joelinton and Miguel Almiron fit following slight injuries. Danny Rose could make his full debut at left-back, a move that may see Matt Ritchie move to the right at DeAndre Yedlin’s expense.

Arteta’s men will be considered favorites to overcome the Magpies at home, though Bruce’s high-flyers have recovered from a poor start this season to show they’re capable of an upset.

Whether it’s the title race or the jockeying for Champions League spots, there’s something of importance to keep an eye on from the early morning all the way through the late afternoon.

Premier League Boxing Day

Jose Mourinho’s luck against his former teams so far this term have been rotten. The Spurs will look to rebound from a terrible home loss against Chelsea as they host Brighton. The poor result in the previous match leaves them six points behind the Blues for the fourth and final Champions League spot. 

Chelsea is riding high after its impressive performance and victory at Tottenham. Can the team avoid a slip up against a lesser opponent in Southampton? Frank Lampard’s side has found success against the big clubs this season. The tricky opponents have been when Chelsea is favored. The race for the top four appears like it’ll be tight all season. Chelsea can’t afford to drop points in matches like these if it is hoping to return to the Champions League next season. 

After great results against Tottenham and Manchester City, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s resurgent Manchester United crashed back down to earth. A putrid performance away to lowly Watford saw the Red Devils fall down to eighth in the table. The return of Paul Pogba wasn’t enough to inspire United, who was done in by self-inflicted mistakes in the back. If United has any hope of a top four finish, it’ll need to find some consistency very quickly. 

The final matchup of the day is the big one. The title race is already close to being over before the new year even arrives. If Liverpool can travel to King Power Stadium and pick up three points over second place Leicester City, it could be the final blow. A lot can go wrong in the final five months, but it’s really hard to envision a near-perfect Liverpool blowing such a huge lead. Jurgen Klopp’s side will need to shake off its triumphant Club World Cup trip and regain its focus for what could be the most important result in a potential title-winning season.

Is Arsenal vs. Bournemouth on TV? Live stream info, listings, odds and more

All the information you need to watch the Boxing Day clash between Arsenal and Bournemouth in the Premier League.

Arsenal fans will get their first look at the team under new manager Mikel Arteta in a Boxing Day match against Bournemouth on Thursday.

Bournemouth currently sit in 14th place, and despite Arsenal’s iffy run of form — their last match against Everton was one of the most unwatchable Premier League games of the last decade — they will hope to get a result under their new manager.

In tough news for American Arsenal fans, the match will not be televised in the United States. The game will be streamed live on NBC Sports Gold, their premium streaming service. They sell a matchday pass for $34.99 for the rest of the season, or the full Premier League Pass, which gives you on-demand access to games, for $44.99.

You can also try to find streams elsewhere online, but good luck with the viruses.

Unai Emery got sacked and Arsenal fans couldn’t be happier

Some Arsenal fans were reflective, but most were delighted by the sacking of Unai Emery.

It’s over. Arsenal’s long, global nightmare is over.

Unai Emery was dismissed as head coach of the London club on Friday, following an embarrassing 2-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League this week.

Club legend Freddie Ljungberg, who had been serving as an assistant coach with the team, will step into an interim role while they search for a new head coach.

Emery has overseen kind of a bizarre tenure with the club, with some good results, a lot of bad results, and some weird, weird player management along the way. (The whole Granit Xhaka-as-captain thing will probably have a book written about it one day.)

Emery never seemed to get his footing, and after a run of poor results, it apparently became clear to club owner Stan Kroenke (he of the Rams), that the situation was untenable.

That’s all well and good. What was really great was seeing how Arsenal fans reacted to the sacking. Gaze upon their joy!

Two of the Premier League’s most out of form teams will pit their records against one another when sixth-place Arsenal hosts Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. The two teams boast a combined total of one win from each of their last six games, and Unai Emery is under extreme pressure to bag three points at home.

Tuesday evening brought the news that Mauricio Pochettino had been Tottenham Hotspur, perhaps the less expected dismissal in north London during this international break. Emery may count himself fortunate not to have been the first to go considering Arsenal has won once in its last seven games, still licking its wounds from a 2-0 loss at Leicester City in Week 12.

Saints chief Ralph Hasenhuttl doesn’t have the same weight of expectation on the south coast, but there’s a growing sense the Austrian is also riding the last of his luck at St. Mary’s Stadium.

Hasenhuttl’s first win as a manager in England was a 3-2 surprise result against Arsenal in December at home, though the Premier League appears more wise to his tactics now.

His side hasn’t won a match in its last seven outings and suffered defeat in six of those. A 1-1 draw away to the Wolverhampton Wanderers last month accounts for the only point Southampton has claimed from the last possible 21.

As fate would have it, the Gunners’ last Premier League point came following a 1-1 draw of their own against the Wolves on Nov. 2. Following a 2-2 result against Crystal Palace one week prior, this was the second home game in a row that Arsenal lost a lead to a draw.

The same happened again in its Europa League visit to Vitoria on Nov. 6 when Bruno Duarte scored late and canceled out Shkodran Mustafi’s 80th-minute opener.

There won’t be any excuses for Arsenal should it fail to clinch maximum spoils on Saturday. Dani Ceballos is the only injury concern after he suffered a hamstring injury before the international break, giving the manager an almost fully fit selection.

Southampton has a limited injury list, too, with the Republic of Ireland forward Michael Obafemi being its only concern before the trip to north London.

Hasenhuttl’s side surprised Arsenal on home soil in December, but the Saints haven’t beaten the Gunners away from home in league competition since November 1987.

Defeat at the Emirates could spell the end of either manager’s reign depending on the nature of the result, with both bosses feeling the heat approaching a tense winter schedule.
