UFC on ESPN 52 results: Arman Tsarukyan flattens Beneil Dariush in 64 seconds

If Arman Tsarukyan wasn’t a UFC lightweight contender before, he is now. He put Beneil Dariush away in 64 seconds in Austin, Texas.

[autotag]Arman Tsarukyan[/autotag] put an exclamation point on an action-packed UFC on ESPN 52 event Saturday in Austin, Texas.

In the main event at Moody Center, Tsarukyan (21-3 MMA, 8-2 UFC) needed just 64 seconds to put longtime lightweight contender Beneil Dariush (22-6-1 MMA, 16-6-1 UFC) out cold.

The finishing combination was a right hand-knee-right hand trifecta. Dariush flew backward onto the canvas. Tsarukyan missed on a big overhand right on the way down, a la Dan Henderson vs. Michael Bisping at UFC 100, but landed three more right hands to seal the deal.

Upon the stoppage, Tsarukyan dove outside the cage and ran into the stands to celebrate with the crowd – and for good reason. His first main event victory extended his winning streak to three and firmly inserts his name in the title conversation. His only two UFC losses have come against champion Islam Makhachev and fellow top contender Mateusz Gamrot.

Dariush has now lost back-to-back fights by first-round knockout. His previous outing was a first-round TKO defeat in a title eliminator vs. Charles Oliveira at UFC 289.

New video shows Bobby Green scuffle with Arman Tsarukyan’s team in second hotel altercation

This time, Bobby Green was on the offensive – and had one unidentified man attempt a sprinting karate kick in the host hotel lobby.

A second video of a separate-but-related physical dispute between [autotag]Bobby Green[/autotag] and members of [autotag]Arman Tsarukyan[/autotag]’s team has surfaced.

On the same day Tsarukyan released a video in which he approached and grabbed Green by the throat, footage of a second altercation appeared on social media Friday, first posted on X by THE MMA FORTUNE TELLER.

The video shows Green approach Tsarukyan cornerman [autotag]Elvis Shakhbazyan[/autotag] in the lobby of the UFC on ESPN 52 host hotel in Austin, Texas, the city that hosts Saturday’s card. UFC welterweight Phil Rowe tried to diffuse the situation, but to no avail. Green swings at Shakhbazyan and mayhem ensues.

At one point, an unidentified individual sprints through the lobby, only to circle back around with a flying karate kick – and then sprint the opposite way.

It’s unclear when exactly this altercation took place, though both Shakhbazyan and Green appeared clothed in the same attire they wore when a separate altercation took place Wednesday. During that kerfuffle, Tsarukyan approached Green, who was seated doing a phone interview. Before long, things got physical and Tsarukyan grabbed Green’s throat. Tsarukyan later posted a video of the scuffle.

It is still relatively unclear what started the beef between the two teams, though Tsarukyan during the initial altercation indicated he felt disrespected by comments made by Green. The two fighters compete in separate bouts Saturday, as Tsarukyan faces Beneil Dariush in the main event after Green takes on Jalin Turner.

Although Arman Tsarukyan went for the jugular of Bobby Green earlier in the week, he kept hands to himself as he stared down Beneil Dariush.

AUSTIN, Texas – Although [autotag]Arman Tsarukyan[/autotag] went for the jugular during a physical altercation with Bobby Green earlier in fight week at the host hotel, Friday’s faceoff with [autotag]Beneil Dariush[/autotag] remained classy.

Tsarukyan (20-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC) and Dariush (22-5-1 MMA, 16-5-1 UFC) collide in a five-round lightweight main event Saturday at Moody Center. The main card airs on ESPN following prelims on ESPN+.

The two lightweights remained respectful yet intense as the sized each other up for the final time before they throw down inside the cage.

Tsarukyan, 27, aims to extend his winning streak to three after consecutive victories over Damir Ismagulov and Joaquim Silva. Tsarukyan’s only UFC losses have come against Islam Makhachev and Mateusz Gamrot.

New footage has emerged of the UFC host hotel altercation between [autotag]Arman Tsarukyan[/autotag] and [autotag]Bobby Green[/autotag] ahead of Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 52 event in Austin, Texas.

Green (31-14-1 MMA, 12-9-1 UFC), who fights Jalin Turner (13-7 MMA, 6-4 UFC) in the lightweight co-main event of the card at Moody Center, revealed earlier in the week that he’d been approached by Tsarukyan and his team following his appearance at Wednesday’s media day.

Those claims now have been validated with video, as footage shows Tsarukyan (20-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC), who meets Beneil Dariush (22-5-1 MMA, 16-5-1 UFC) in the headliner of the ESPN-televised card following prelims on ESPN+, approaching Green while he’s sitting alone and confronting him about “talking sh*t” about him in interviews.

Green told Tsarukyan to back away from him, but then turned it physical shoving his fellow ranked 155-pound fighter. Tsarukyan responded by reaching out and grabbing him by the throat before UFC staff and other teammates stepped in and tore the two apart before the situation escalated.

Both men were agitated as the video came to a close. Check it out above.

Bobby Green, Arman Tsarukyan’s team in alleged physical altercation at UFC Austin hotel

Bobby Green and Arman Tsarukyan’s team got into it at the host hotel for UFC on ESPN 52 in Austin.

It sounds like [autotag]Bobby Green[/autotag]’s timeline to get in a fight was moved up a few days.

Things got physical Wednesday between Green and a member of [autotag]Arman Tsarukyan[/autotag]’s team, Green alleged in a social media post.

Green fights Jalin Turner in the UFC on ESPN 52 co-main event Saturday at Moody Center in Austin, Texas. The main card airs on ESPN following prelims on ESPN+. Tsarukyan is in the lightweight headliner against Beneil Dariush.

Green claimed in a video on his Instagram story that he was attacked by Tsarukyan’s team. The video shows security restraining Tsarukyan and other people, trying to keep the two sides separated.

“Sh*t just getting started, n***a,” Green said on Instagram. “That’s a b*tch ass n***a right there. Yeah, I’m’a get you right there. Y’all ran up on me, n***a. Y’all ran up on me. What’s up?”

In a subsequent video, Green doubled down on not being the antagonist of the alleged altercation and claimed he struck a member of Tsarukyan’s team.

“Hey, I don’t be starting nothing with nobody,” Green said. “But if you start that sh*t with me, I’m definitely going to finish it. This is just starting. N***a might go to jail tonight. Don’t f*ck around playing with me. This b*tch ass n***a ran up on me trying to start sh*t, and he didn’t know I was going to finish it. I stuck one of his homies. Stop playing with me. … They all ran up on me by myself, and they was acting all that tough. As soon as I ran into that n***a again with my n****s, then he was, ‘Oh, no. Oh, no. No. No.’ No, you started that sh*t. But as soon as security comes, you want to start acting tough again.”

Tsarukyan has yet to post anything or comment on the matter. The UFC also hasn’t made a public statement on the alleged incident.

But Green’s management, Iridium Sports Agency, released a statement on social media:

“During a media interview earlier today, Iridium Sports Agency client Bobby Green was unprovokingly accosted and attacked by a member of Arman Tsarukyan’s team at the UFC host hotel. Bobby tried to avoid the conflict, but he was put in a position where he had to defend himself and his coach from the larger, aggressive group.”

Arman Tsarukyan says he can talk title fight with UFC on ESPN 52 main event finish of Beneil Dariush

Arman Tsarukyan expects to firmly enter the lightweight title discussion with a definitive win over Beneil Dariush at UFC on ESPN 52.

AUSTIN, Texas – [autotag]Arman Tsarukyan[/autotag] sees [autotag]Beneil Dariush[/autotag] as the obstacle in the way of everything he wants in his career.

After repeatedly calling for big names at lightweight, Tsarukyan (20-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC) finally get his opportunity Saturday when he meets Dariush (22-5-1 MMA, 16-5-1 UFC) in the UFC on ESPN 52 headliner, which takes place at Moody Center with a main card on ESPN following prelims on ESPN+.

A winner of seven of his past eight fights, Tsarukyan has been working hard to put traction around his name in a top-heavy and star-studded 155-pound division. If he can deliver a statement win against a perennial contender in Dariush, Tsarukyan is confident he will elevate to the next level.

“Finally, I got a big fight, and I’m so excited,” Tsarukyan told MMA Junkie and other reporters at Wednesday’s UFC on ESPN 52 media day. “If I finish him, I can talk about a title fight.”

[lawrence-related id=2699448,2699383]

Talking about a title fight and actually getting one are two different things. Tsarukyan, No. 12 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie lightweight rankings, said he understands that fact, and that no matter how impressively he might beat No. 5-ranked Dariush, he will keep grounded and stay the course.

His overall goal is to fight for the belt next year, ideally in a rematch with Islam Makhachev, who spoiled Tsarukyan’s octagon debut by unanimous decision in April 2019. But if Tsarukyan needs to win multiple fights before he gets his shot, he said he will not complain.

“For me, it doesn’t matter,” Tsarukyan said. “I’m just looking for a victory this weekend. After that, if they tell me, ‘You need three more fights,’ I’m going to fight three more times, then get the title fight. My goal next year is to fight for the title.”

Tsarukyan, 27, made it clear he’s not overlooking Dariush, 34, by any stretch. He could have a difficult five-round fight ahead, but is confident he knows how things will unfold.

“He’s a well-rounded fighter,” Tsarukyan said. “I think he’s going to wait for what I’m going to do and check out what my game plan’s going to be, then try to defend my wrestling and strike me – and I think he wants to try to take me down, too.”
