The Razorbacks will go for a sweep on Sunday afternoon from Fayetteville.

After hitting seven home runs in the first two games of the series, the Arkansas baseball will go for a sweep of Wright State on Sunday from Fayetteville.

First pitch in the third game of the set is scheduled for 1 p.m. from Baum-Walker Stadium.

The Razorbacks (8-2) run-ruled Wright State, 12-2, in the opener, then dropped another 12 runs Saturday afternoon in a six-run win. Jared Wegner and Peyton Stovall homered in each game.

For Wegner, a transfer from Creighton, it was another outstanding game in the start to his Razorbacks career. The outfielder is slashing .444/.563/.972 in 10 games. He leads the team in hits (16), runs (16), triples (1), homers (5), RBI (18), total bases (35) and walks (10) in addition to his batting average, on-base percentage and slugging.

Arkansas vs. Wright State – Game 2: How to watch, stream, listen

After taking the opener Friday, Arkansas will seek to clinch the series at 3 p.m. from Baum-Walker.

The Arkansas baseball team will look to take the series against Wright State on Saturday in Fayetteville.

The Diamond Hogs won the series opener, 12-2, via run-rule with Jared Wegner’s eighth-inning walk-off homer Friday afternoon. Game 2 was set for a 3 p.m. first pitch from Baum-Walker Stadium.

Wright State entered the season as the favorites for the Horizon League title. Sledding has been tough early as they won just one of four to start the season against Hawaii and one of three last weekend against another SEC foe, Kentucky.

Arkansas, meanwhile, has largely looked the part of its preseason projection. The Razorbacks entered the season in the Top 10 in most polls and carry a 7-2 record into Saturday’s matinee.

If you’re not headed to south Fayetteville on Saturday afternoon, you can check out how to catch the game below.

Diamond Hogs homer four times in run-rule of Wright State in Friday’s opener

The Arkansas lineup came alive in an easy win over Wright State at Baum-Walker.

Arkansas batters hit four home runs Friday as the Diamond Hogs run-ruled the Horizon League favorites Wright State, 12-2.

Jared Wegner hit his fourth, Caleb Cali and Peyton Stovall hit their second each and Brady Slavens knocked his first as Arkansas jumped out to a 5-0 lead after just two innings.

The Diamond Hogs scored another four innings in the eighth thanks to Wright State mistakes. Two walks, a wild pitch and two base hits were enough to build Arkansas’ lead 11-2 at that point. When Wegner hit a solo homer to center in the eighth, the run-rule kicked in.

Arkansas starter Hagen Smith worked around trouble for his 4 2/3 innings. The lefty walked five Wright batters and allowed three hits, but his eight strikeouts helped him limit the visitors to just one earned run against.

The two teams were set to be back for Game 2 from Baum-Walker Stadium on Saturday at 3 p.m.

No. 8 Arkansas host Wright State for a weekend series

The Diamond Hogs continue their 36-day homestand, hosting Wright State Raider for a weekend series.

The Diamond Hogs continue their 36-day homestand, hosting Wright State Raider for a weekend series.

Arkansas needed a walk-off in their one-off against Illinois State, another school out of the Missouri Valley conference. Wright State will be the second.

Wright State represents the Horizon League and has participated in three of the last four NCAA tournaments. For the first time in school history, they had a back-to-back appearance in 2021 and 2022.

Fresh off a 2-1 series loss to Kentucky, the Raiders walk into Baum-Walker Stadium 3-5. Their lone win, 12-9, over Kentucky is the school’s 20th win over a “Power Five” conference school since 2014.

Sebastian Gongora is the team’s ace, walking into the 2023 season as the preseason Horizon League Pitcher of the Year and the conference’s top prospect for the 2023 Major League Draft by D1Baseball.com and Perfect Game USA.

Through two starts, he is 1-0 and has 1.80 ERA and four strikeouts against Kentucky.

For the Hogs, it’s another series that could bring losses. The Raiders are one of 19 teams on the Razorbacks schedule that made it to the postseason last year. The team’s overall performance has been sporadic, especially from the bullpen.

This could be the weekend where the nationally-ranked talent shows, but the rest of college baseball is also searching for consistency. The series will be streamed on the SEC Network.
