Watch: social media reacts to Emeka Egbuka touchdown #GoBucks

The Ohio State Buckeyes have started this second half out hot and heavy and after a TreVeyon Henderson touchdown on the first drive, the second offensive drive saw C.J. Stroud strike Emeka Egbuka for a beautiful 49-yard touchdown pass.

Ohio State now holds a 38-9 lead over the Arkansas State Red Wolves with 10:30 left in the third quarter. We discussed in the first half how the offense hadn’t yet exploded, but it appears they have gone full-blown mushroom cloud here in the second half. Emeka Egbuka currently has four receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown.

Buckeye Nation is stoked about Egbuka and here are some reactions from Twitter.

Ohio State vs. Arkansas State: Stream, injury report, broadcast info for Saturday

Everything you need to know to see the Buckeyes on Saturday if you won’t be at the ‘Shoe.

Ohio State plays Arkansas State on Saturday, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

The Buckeyes and Red Wolves both got the season started right with wins over non-conference opponents. OSU started somewhat slow but the defense turned up the heat in the second half to secure a top-five win. Arkansas State on the other hand gave a dominating performance over Grambling State.

Unfortunately for ASU, Ohio State is a completely different animal. Red Wolves coach Butch Jones spent time in the Buckeye State with the University of Cincinnati from 2010-2012. Maybe he’ll have some tricks up his sleeve, but it’s doubtful those tricks would be anything more than smoke and mirrors.

This should be a game where OSU can work on tightening up some loose ends and getting the backups some actual game experience.

Ohio State vs. Arkansas State Buckeyes Wire staff predictions

Our writers predict the Ohio State vs. Arkansas State game. #GoBucks

After taking care of business during some national mixed reviews against a top-five Notre Dame squad last week, Ohio State continues its journey in the 2022 season against Sun Belt conference foe Arkansas State.

It’s a game many believe the Buckeyes should win rather easily, but that doesn’t mean the Red Wolves won’t come into the ‘Shoe with a game plan and attitude to swing as hard as they can.

Each week, we throw it over to our three writers to provide a prediction and reason for what will happen in the next game on Ohio State’s schedule, and we’re doing the same here. Will the Buckeyes roll or will Arkansas State provide a stiffer than expected test?

Here’s what Phil, Mark, and Josh say about how things will play out Saturday afternoon against the Red Wolves.

WATCH: Ohio State drops football trailer for Week 2

Time for the latest Ohio State football trailer. If you are like us, you can’t get enough of these to get you ready for the next gameday Saturday. #GoBucks

We’ve missed these things. Every Thursday during the football season, the creative media folks drop a theatrical trailer for the next Ohio State game. If you haven’t gotten on board with these things yet, it’s time to do so because they are literally the best in the game.

Ohio State beat a top-five opponent, Notre Dame, last week and there was a lot of hard-hitting action and defense going on which — come to think of it — is an extremely positive development after what we saw last year.

This week, the Buckeyes step back and take on Arkansas State in the next step along a journey they hope ends with some rings, trophies, and confetti. Do yourself a favor and hit play on the below trailer, remove the furniture and turn up the volume.

Ohio State will host Arkansas State at Noon ET on Saturday, with the Big Ten Network having the game for all of those that live, eat, and breathe all things scarlet and gray.

Ohio State vs. Arkansas State: preview and prediction

Ohio State looks to work on improving its game when Arkansas State comes to town. #GoBucks

Week one is in the books and Ohio State took care of business and passed its first test against No. 5 Notre Dame. The defense looked fast and dominated the line of scrimmage holding the Irish to just 10 points total, none of which were scored in the second half.

The Buckeyes will now get a little rest before opening Big Ten play in a few weeks. First up, the Arkansas State Red Wolves which got off to a nice start with a 58-3 beating of Grambling State.

Don’t let that score fool you. The Red Wolves started the 2021 season in a similar fashion with a big win but finished the season with just 2 wins and 10 losses. This should be an opportunity for OSU to work on tightening up some loose ends on both offense and defense.

Arkansas State Red Wolves Preview 2022

It’s been a rough run for a program used to playing for big things in the Sun Belt.

While others like Louisiana, Appalachian State, and Coastal Carolina have become the stars of the conference, and with other good new parts coming into the league, Arkansas State has sputtered and struggled over the last two seasons with no defense, not enough of an offense to keep up, and without and semblance of a break.

Butch Jones is a solid head coach. Things might not have gone perfectly at Tennessee, but he’s got the chops to use 2021 as a rebuilding season and turn this year into a big step forward.

First, getting more out of the defense would be nice. More on that in a moment.

Arkansas State Red Wolves Preview 2022: Offense

The Red Wolves have the passing attack. Part of the reason they were on top of the Sun Belt in passing was out of necessity. They had to keep throwing to try keeping up the pace, but they also had the parts.

The O averaged close to 400 yards and 25 points per game, but the ground game wasn’t good enough and the offensive line gave up way too many sacks. The passing attack really was strong, but …

Losing top wide receiver Corey Rucker to South Carolina hurts, but 6-1, 208-pound Te’Vailiance Hunt and deep threat Jeff Foreman are decent veterans to start with. This was a very, very, young group, and now there’s decent depth to keep rotating into the mix.

Former Florida State starter James Blackman was terrific at times over the first half of the year before getting knocked out for the season with a shoulder injury. Layne Hatcher stepped in and kept bombing away, but with Blackman back he’s gone to Texas State. The Red Wolves will keep throwing, but …

Again, the ground attack has to be better. That starts with needing more from a line that had a mix or different parts last year but now will go younger, a slew of new guys will be in the mix, and … it might take a little bit to come together after a rough spring. It’s not a massive line outside of 340-pound tackle Robert Holmes, but this group should be able to move.

Now the backs need more work. Arkansas State only ran 349 times last year for 989 yards and four scores. Averaging under three yards per carry, the backs had nowhere to go. Smallish speedster Lincoln Pare led the way with 455 yards and a score, but now he’s in the transfer portal.

Arkansas State Red Wolves Preview 2022: Defense

Not everything was awful about the Arkansas State defense. Yeah, it was last in the nation against the run, and yeah, it was the second-worst in college football overall, and it allowed 506 yards and 39 points per game, but …

There was pressure. Not enough of it, but former Tennessee transfer Kivon Bennett generated eight sacks and 16.5 tackles for loss from one defensive end spot, and fellow former Volunteer John Mincey is a veteran to start with on the inside. Now this group has to hold up a wee bit against the run, even with a slew of new guys in the rotation.

The linebacking corps isn’t big, but it can move. The plays behind the line mostly came from the line, but 6-1, 216-pound junior Jaden Harris and 5-10, 180-pound Melique Straker have the quickness to do more.

Teams were so busy running on ASU that the secondary caught a bit of a break. This group should take a bit to come together, especially at safety. The corners will be fine in time, but losing second-leading tackler Jarius Reimonenq to James Madison stings.

Penn State’s all-time record against every member of the Sun Belt Conference

Penn State has never lost a football game to a team currently in the Sun Belt, but Appalachian State came close.

Of all of the FBS conferences in college football, Penn State has the least head-to-head contact with the Sun Belt Conference. The Nittany Lions have played a member of the Sun Belt Conference just three times in program history, and one of those meetings took place before one of those current Sun Belt members was even playing FBS football.

And although Penn State has won all three of their meetings against the Sun Belt Conference, the last one nearly shook the entire program to start the season.

Here is a look at how Penn State fares all-time against schools currently in the Sun Belt Conference.

All data referenced is credited to College Football Reference. Rankings referenced are AP Top 25 where available.

If you want more, check out Penn State’s all-time records against current members of the Big TenACCBig 12Pac-12, and SEC. We are also adding all-time records against non-power conferences. Here is Penn State’s all-time record against the American Athletic ConferenceMAC , and Mountain West Conference membership.

Note: Penn State has never faced Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, Louisiana, South Alabama, Texas State, Troy, or ULM.

Oklahoma keeps bats hot in 9-1 blowout of Arkansas State to split doubleheader

Oklahoma kept the bats rolling in a 9-1 blowout of Arkansas State Sunday night to split their doubleheader and get back to .500.

Oklahoma dropped the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader with Arkansas State in a 15-14 slugfest where they seemingly couldn’t find a way to throw a clean inning. The second game of the day was a different story.

The Sooners kept the bats rolling putting up nine more runs, but were delivered a sorely-needed clutch start from left-hander Jake Bennett who tossed five solid innings allowing just one run and two hits while striking out six. He picked up the win for his effort to go to 2-1 on the year.

Oklahoma never had one overly huge inning, instead just steadily keeping things moving all night long. In fact, they scored in every single inning except for the bottom of the eighth.

Second baseman Conor McKenna picked up an RBI double in the first to get the ball rolling, then shortstop Brandon Zaragoza drove in a run on a fielder’s choice in the second. Center fielder Tanner Tredaway and third baseman Peyton Graham each picked up run-scoring hits in the next two innings to keep the lead growing.

In the fifth, Connor Beichler had an two-RBI double followed by another driven in on a Zaragoza knock for the Sooners biggest inning of the day with three runs in the frame. Left fielder Diego Muniz and McKenna would both get RBI hits before games end to bring the final score to 9-1.

After Bennett’s solid five innings of work, Jaret Godman and Carson Carter teamed up to dominate the final four innings throwing two each and allowing one total hit and striking out seven. The bullpen shut the door in a major way on Sunday night.

Now at 7-7, Oklahoma has a chance to take the series and get back above .500 in the rubber match on Monday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. CT at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

Oklahoma drops front end of doubleheader to Arkansas State in 15-14 shootout

Oklahoma dropped the front end of a doubleheader to Arkansas State 15-14 on Sunday in Norman.

Oklahoma Sooners baseball is back on the diamond on Sunday with a doubleheader against Arkansas State out of the Sun Belt. The series was originally set to be a traditional Friday-Sunday weekend set, but it was altered due to weather in the area.

The first game of the day was another slugfest for the Sooners, who have seen that a lot in the early part of the season as the offense has been dynamite as of late with the pitching continuing to struggle. Once again, Oklahoma ace pitcher Wyatt Olds had a rough day giving up six earned runs over his four innings pitched.

The Sooners faced a 7-0 deficit at the midway point of the third inning, again in a big early hole to attempt to climb their way out of. They would do a pretty darn good job it, though, as they came right back with a huge six-run bottom of the third to bring things to 7-6 behind home runs from first baseman Tyler Hardman and center fielder Tanner Tredaway.

But, unfortunately for Oklahoma, they couldn’t keep the Red Wolves offense down as they would put five more runs across in the fifth and sixth innings to gain a 12-6 lead.

The Sooners would not go down quietly though as they again managed to get the bats going and go on another rally. They would put up two runs in the seventh to cut the deficit to 12-8, before Arkansas State got those right back in the top of the 8th to push things to 14-8.

Oklahoma would immediately respond with five runs in the bottom half of the inning highlighted by home runs from third baseman Peyton Graham and catcher Jimmy Crooks. The game stood at 14-13 heading to the final inning.

The Red Wolves would add an insurance run that turned out to be large, as the Sooners could only muster up one run in the bottom of the ninth in response to fall by a 15-14 final. Needless to say, the pitching seriously failed Skip Johnson’s club in this one.

The team absolutely wouldn’t give up and continued to battle and rally all game long but it just ended up being not quite enough. Allowing 15 runs is obviously incredibly difficult to overcome and they almost found a way to do it, but it all goes down the same as another loss.

Something that may get lost in the all the offense and the loss, Hardman was absolutely sensational on the afternoon hitting for the cycle in his five hits with four RBIs. He showcased himself as one of the better hitters on the team in this one, albeit in a losing effort.

Now at 6-7, they’ll try to keep the bats going but figure out the pitching in the second end of the doubleheader in Norman.
