Notre Dame responsible for 1/4 of an ACC football first

The ACC is off to a fast start in 2020 and has reached a conference first with Notre Dame being 25% responsible for.

With the AP Poll being updated on Sunday we saw Clemson stay in the top spot while Notre Dame remained fifth. Joining the Tigers and Irish in the top ten though were seventh ranked Miami and eighth ranked North Carolina.

Four ACC teams being ranked in the top ten simultaneously is a conference first, with the poll dating back all the way to 1936.

If Clemson beats Miami as the sports books say they should do, it may be hard to see this happen again the rest of the year as the Big Ten and Pac-12 will be starting their seasons soon enough and likely creating more of a logjam after they get some games under their belts as opposed to pre-season hype.

In addition to the Clemson/Miami game this week, Notre Dame hosts unranked Florida State while North Carolina hosts Virginia Tech.

The loss by Oklahoma for the second-straight week dropped them completely out of the top 25. Which marks the first time that the Sooners have been out of the poll since Sept. 25 of 2016.

After losing their opening game against Louisiana-Lafayette, Iowa State jumped into the poll after defeated TCU and OU in consecutive weeks. ULL ranks just one ahead of the Cyclones. The big riser this week was Oklahoma State who finds themselves in the top ten after the Longhorns fell 13 spots.

AP Poll: Texas drops one spot, Big Ten and Pac-12 join mix

Despite winning against Texas Tech, Texas dropped one spot to No. 9 in the AP poll. Big Ten and Pac-12 teams feature for the first time.

Oklahoma dropped 15 spots after losing to Kansas State at home. Oklahoma State dropped two spots as well, even after beating West Virginia in Stillwater.
