Notre Dame moves up one spot in the AP Top 25 poll after decisive victory over Army

Notre Dame moves up one spot in the poll.

Notre Dame is now number 5 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll after beating Army 49-14 at Yankee Stadium on Saturday.

That is the highest the Fighting Irish have been since beating Texas A&M in the season opener. The Irish also were ranked fifth after that game.

Saturday’s slew of upsets has shaken the poll, though the top five didn’t change aside from the Irish’s entry into that group.

The top four remain Oregon, Ohio State, Texas and Penn State.

Georgia, Tennessee, Miami (Florida), SMU and Indiana round out the top 10.

That latter half of the top 10 is where a lot of movement occurred. Tennessee and Miami (Fl) gained three spots and SMU picked up four. Indiana slid five spots to number 10 after being blown out by Ohio State.

Other big movers included Clemson, up five spots, and Alabama, which slid six spots to No. 13 after being outclassed by Oklahoma.

Arizona State jumped seven spots to No. 14 after upsetting BYU, and Ole Miss slid six to No. 15 after being upset by Florida.

BYU and Texas A&M dropped five spots after losses, and Iowa State is up five spots after beating Utah.

Colorado dropped seven places to N. 23 after falling to Kansas and Army, Notre Dame’s opponent Saturday night, fell seven spots to 25th.

Gators hoops drop in AP Poll’s top 25 despite perfect start

Despite an undefeated start to the 2024-25 college basketball season, AP Top 25 voters dropped the Florida Gators down a spot after Week 2.

Florida (4-0) has yet to win a game by fewer than 13 points, but the AP Top 25 voters still dropped the Gators one spot to No. 21 in the latest poll update.

The Gators took down Grambling State by 24 points on Monday and handed Florida State its first loss of the season in Tallahassee on Friday. The dip in the polls has more to do with the teams ahead of Florida, specifically Wisconsin, than the Gators’ performance.

Florida received just 30 fewer points than a week ago, but an undefeated start from Wisconsin, including a win over then-No.9 Arizona, moves the Gators down a spot.

SEC Teams ranked inside the AP Top 25

The Southeastern Conference boasts seven programs inside the top 25 after two weeks of play. The Auburn Tigers lead the conference at No. 4 and earned three first-place votes. The Alabama Crimson Tide (No. 8) and Kentucky Wildcats (No. 9) give the SEC three teams inside the top 10, and the No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers are close behind.

Florida trails the No. 20 Arkansas Razorbacks by 11 poll points, and the Texas A&M Aggies (No. 23) round out the list. Ole Miss earned 103 points in the voting, making the Rebels the unofficial No. 27 team in the country, while the Texas Longhorns (17) and Mississippi State Bulldogs (15) also received votes.

Taking a look at the AP Top 25 poll after Week 12

Florida’s win over LSU on Saturday knocked the Tigers out of the AP Top 25, but the Gators didn’t earn any votes in the post-Week 12 poll.

Despite upsetting the LSU Tigers, 27-16, on Saturday Florida did not earn any votes in the Week 12 AP Top 25 Poll.

However, seven SEC programs finished the week ranked, including five inside the top 10. The top five of Oregon, Ohio State, Texas, Penn State and Indiana held steady, in that order, followed by Notre Dame, Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss and Tennessee.

Texas defeated Arkansas, 20-10; Alabama destroyed Mercer, 52-7, and jumped two spots; Georgia beat Tennessee to move up three places and knock the Volunteers down four; and Ole Miss moved up one spot while on a bye week. The Gators host the Rebels next week.

Texas A&M stayed put at No. 15 with a 3 8-3 win over New Mexico State, and South Carolina jumped four spots to No. 19 with a 34-30 win over Missouri, knocking the Tigers out of the playoff race and down to an unofficial No. 26 with 56 poll points.

LSU also dropped out of the Top 25 with its loss to Florida, earning just six points in this week’s voting. Vanderbilt earned four points.

Latest AP Poll reveals much about Kentucky’s bowl chances

Kentucky football remains unranked in the AP poll, and needs two more wins to be bowl eligible.

Kentucky Football is staring down a significant battle for a bowl game following — especially considering the most recent AP Poll.

Nobody should be shocked that Kentucky football wasn’t ranked in week 13’s poll. The Wildcats haven’t been ranked all season, and sit at 4-6 on the year after Saturday’s 48-6 win over Murray State.

The real question surrounds bowl eligibility. With two games left this year, Kentucky has to win out to make a bowl game. For the Wildcats, this might be an uphill battle as they’re set to face off against two tough opponents over these final two weeks.

This upcoming Saturday, November 23, marks a matchup for the Wildcats in Austin. Kentucky is set to travel to DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium for a matchup against the third-ranked Texas Longhorns.

Texas is a national title contender, sitting at 9-1. Their only loss came earlier this year against the eighth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs.

They’ll follow up that tough matchup with a rivalry week game in Lexington. The Wildcats are set to host Louisville in Lexington on Saturday, November 30.

Although unranked following a 38-25 heartbreaker to Stanford over the weekend, Louisville is still an upper-class college football team. They were ranked l9th last week prior to the loss, and still received fifteen top-25 votes in week 13’s poll.

With Kentucky needing to win out against the two, the Wildcats might need a miracle to make a bowl game this year.

MSU Basketball left out of updated AP Top 25 poll

Michigan State basketball received votes but remains outside the top 25 this week

For another week, Michigan State basketball is not listed in the Associated Press (AP) Top 25 poll.

The updated top 25 came out on Monday, and Michigan State was once again on the outside. The Spartans received 41 votes, which would unofficially put them at No. 31 in the updated poll.

The Big Ten had only four teams ranked this week, with Purdue leading the way at No. 13. Behind the Boilermakers was Indiana at No. 16, Ohio State at No. 21 and Rutgers at No. 24. Illinois was the first team outside of the poll.

Michigan State picked up a pair of wins in the opening week of the season, with both games being blowouts. The Spartans will carry that 2-0 record into Tuesday night’s massive matchup against No. 1 Kansas in the annual Champions Classic event.

Two Top 5 losses lets Longhorns leap to No. 3 in AP Top 25

Texas Longhorns move up to No. 3 in latest AP Top 25 ranking after losses to former top five teams Georgia and Miami.

Three seems to be the magic number this week. After loses to Top 5 teams Georgia and Miami, the Texas Longhorns have jumped from No. 5 to No. 3 in the latest AP Top 25 Ranking. UT is also No. 3 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll.

The Longhorns again looked like the best team in the conference by crushing Florida 49-17 in Austin Saturday. Texas has looked wobbly for a few weeks after a strong start to the season.

Meanwhile, Georgia and Miami each plummeted down the rankings after losses to Ole Miss and Georgia Tech respectively.

Unbeaten Oregon remains No. 1 in the country after handling Maryland. Ohio State moves up to No. 2 after destroying Purdue in Columbus. Penn State and Indiana round out the Top 5. The Hoosiers remain undefeated after handing Michigan its fifth loss of the season.

Ole Miss was the big rising this week, climbing six spots to No. 10 in the poll. LSU dropped seven spots after a season defining loss to Alabama.

Eight SEC teams ranked inside AP Top 25 after Week 10 action

Oregon might be on top of the AP Top 25, but the SEC remains king with half the conference ranked after 10 weeks of play.

Only three teams stayed put in the AP Top 25 after Week 10 of the 2024 college football season, but eight SEC programs remain ranked as the regular season begins to wind down.

Oregon and Georgia remain in the top two spots with wins over Michigan and Florida, respectively. The Gators had the Bulldogs on the ropes in the first half, but an injury to true freshman quarterback [autotag]DJ Lagway[/autotag] spoiled the upset bid.

Texas moved up a spot in the rankings to No. 5 while on bye, and Tennessee held at No. 7 with a 10-point win over Kentucky. Because of several losses in the top 15, Alabama moved up three spots to No. 11 while on bye, and the trio of LSU, Texas A&M and Ole Miss own the Nos. 14-16 spots.

Vanderbilt is the surprise team from the conference in this week’s rankings. The Commodores are bowl-eligible for the first time since 2018 and still have three more games to play.

Alabama rises in new AP Top 25 college football poll ahead of huge showdown with LSU

Alabama rises in the new AP Top 25 Poll after their bye week.

Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide had a bye week on Saturday, but upsets of ranked teams powered the Tide’s rise in this week’s AP Top 25 released Sunday.

As with the US LBM Coaches Poll, Alabama rose three spots to No. 11 in this week’s AP poll. The Crimson Tide jumped past the Clemson Tigers, Iowa State Cyclones and Texas A&M Aggies.

Alabama is one spot below Notre Dame (7-1) at No. 10 and one spot ahead of Boise State (7-1) at No. 12.

The Tide are also the highest-ranked two-loss team, followed by the LSU Tigers (6-2) at No. 14. LSU rose two spots in this week’s AP poll. The Tide and Tigers will meet Saturday at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ABC.

LSU also had its customary bye week ahead of their matchup with Alabama.

The Oregon Ducks (9-0) retained the top spot in the AP poll after their convincing 38-17 win over the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday. The Georgia Bulldogs (7-1) stayed at No. 2 following a 34-20 win over the Florida Gators in Jacksonville.

The Ohio State Buckeyes (7-1) moved up one spot to No. 3 after their 20-13 win over the Penn State Nittany Lions in Happy Valley. The Miami Hurricanes (No. 4, 9-0) and Texas Longhorns (No. 5, 7-1) both moved up one spot to round out the top five.

Penn State fell to No. 6 in this week’s AP poll. Tennessee (7-1) stayed at No. 7. The Indiana Hoosiers (9-0), led by former Nick Saban assistant Curt Cignetti, moved up five spots to No. 8. The BYU Cougars (8-0) were ranked No. 9 with Notre Dame rounding out the Top 10.

Where is Penn State ranked in the AP Top 25 after losing to Ohio State?

Penn State gets a soft landing in the AP Top 25 after loss to Ohio State.

Penn State took a slight fall in this week’s AP Top 25 after taking its first hit of the season. Penn State came up short against Ohio State in Week 10 and was expected to take a slight drop in this week’s media poll. With a couple of other teams in the top 10 also taking a loss this weekend, Penn State’s fall was given a bit of a cushion to land on this week.

Penn State fell three spots in this week’s AP Top 25, dropping from No. 3 down to No. 6 this week. The Nittany Lions are the fourth highest-ranked one-loss team in the AP Top 25 this week. Ohio State moved up one spot to No. 3 after knocking off the Nittany Lions in Beaver Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Penn State also fell behind No. 4 Miami and No. 5 Texas in the media poll.

Orgeon remains firmly in first in the AP Top 25 with all 62 first-place votes in their favor this week. Georgia continued to hold the No. 2 ranking. Joining Penn State, Oregon, and Ohio State in the top 10 this week is Indiana. The Hoosiers, now 9-0, moved up five spots to No. 9. They jumped over idle BYU and moved ahead of Notre Dame and falling Texas A&M, Iowa State, and Clemson. The Aggies, Cyclones, and Tigers each lost this week. Those three losses helped Penn State out as well.

Penn State was hit slightly more by the US LBM Coaches Poll compared to the AP poll. Penn State dropped four spots from No. 3 down to No. 7 in this week’s coaches poll.

Penn State will look for a rebound win this week when they host Washington for a primetime game in Week 11.

Miami leads five ACC teams in latest AP Poll Top 25 after Week 10

After a crazy Week 10 slate, a new ACC team emerged as the biggest threat to the Miami Hurricanes atop the conference.

For most of the 2024 college football season, ACC fans believed that the Miami Hurricanes and Clemson Tigers were on a crash course for the conference championship game.

Miami owned the most productive offense in the country thanks to Heisman Trophy frontrunner Cam Ward, and the Tigers (with two national championships under their belt since 2016) had looked absolutely unstoppable since their Week 1 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs. Other teams around the conference looked impressive, but there was a clear top two. Right?

Well, not so much after Saturday.

The Louisville Cardinals left Death Valley with a 33-21 victory over Clemson, leaving tattered dreams of the College Football Playoff bracket in their wake. While the Hurricanes shifted up one spot to No. 4 in the newest AP Poll, the Tigers slid all the way down to No. 19 with a second loss on their resume.

The Clemson loss left an opening in the ACC power vacuum, and the SMU Mustangs vaulted forward to fill it with a 48-25 victory over the previously undefeated Pittsburgh Panthers. In their first year as members of the conference, the Mustangs have now won their first five ACC games with wins over Louisville, Duke, and Pittsburgh on their ledger, and it helped them climb seven spots to No. 13 in the new AP rankings.

The Oregon Ducks held tight onto the top spot after a 38-17 road victory over the defending national championships, the Michigan Wolverines, who dropped to 5-4 for the year. The Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Texas Longhorns joined Miami within the top five.
