Notre Dame has ‘no plans’ for transfer portal quarterback in 2025

Does this make you happy?

Amidst all the hoopla surrounding National Signing Day, one question remained for Notre Dame. Would it go to transfer portal for a quarterback again in 2025 given how it has done so in three of the past four years?

It was a fair question given that [autotag]Jack Coan[/autotag], [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag] and [autotag]Riley Leonard[/autotag] all have been handed the keys to the Irish’s offense fresh off playing at other universities. But [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] assured at his National Signing Day news conference that that wouldn’t be the case.

When asked whether the Irish have enough quarterbacks in the wings already, Freeman assured that they did, adding, “We have no plans on going to the transfer portal for a quarterback.”

That will be a big relief to a quarterbacks room that already features [autotag]Steve Angeli[/autotag], [autotag]Kenny Minchey[/autotag], [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag] and [autotag]Anthony Rezac[/autotag]. And don’t forget about Blake Hebert, one of the many signees for the Irish earlier in the day.

Here’s Freeman’s entire news conference in which he gives this assurance:

Finally in 2025, we’ll get to see how good Freeman and his staff are at recruiting quarterbacks instead of obtaining them from elsewhere.

Notre Dame Football Freshmen Earn National Recognition

Impressive resumes for a couple of incoming freshmen

Each year the National Football Foundation names a Team of Distinction of high school student-athletes that soar not just on the field, but in everything away from it including academics and community service.

This year a pair incoming Notre Dame freshmen earned the status, making them of just 84 young men nationally to earn the distinction.  The 84 were trimmed from a pool of 3,500 senior scholar athletes.

Linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Aas and quarterback Anthony Rezac are the two Notre Dame freshmen to earn the status.

Viliamu-Asa graduated from football powerhouse St. John Bosco in Bellflower, Calif. while recording a ridiculous 4.28 grade-point-average through high school.  He excelled on the football field as well, being a 2023 high school Butkus Award finalist for the nation’s top linebacker.  Viliamu-Asa is seen by many as Notre Dame’s most talented player in the 2024 recruiting class.

The other player to earn the recognition was freshman quarterback Anthony Rezac of Omaha Westside High School in Nebraska.  Rezac recorded a 3.89 GPA and was recognized as the Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year last year.  He was a two-time captain and a two-time academic all-state honoree in high school, while also serving as a member of the student council.

Congratulations to both as this is hopefully only another small step in their promising futures both on and off the field.

Iowa football visitors react to weekend visits with the Hawkeyes

Iowa hosted some talented football players this past weekend. Here were some of their reactions.

With spring practices in full swing, Iowa welcomed in a plethora of talented prospects across the 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes and turned this past weekend into an important recruiting effort. It resulted in a pair of offers to class of 2024 athlete Caleb Benning and 2023 offensive lineman Logan Howland.

Howland’s teammate and Iowa quarterback commit [autotag]Marco Lainez III[/autotag] made the trip with him to Iowa City. Benning’s Omaha Westside teammates RJ Eckhardt, Jahmez Ross and Anthony Rezac made the trip as well.

The Hawkeyes also hosted five-star, class of 2023 offensive tackle [autotag]Kadyn Proctor[/autotag] out of Southeast Polk High School in Des Moines, Iowa. Ankeny, Iowa, native and Iowa Central Community College wide receiver [autotag]Jordan Kumm[/autotag] was in attendance. [autotag]Tono Cornell[/autotag], a 2024 defensive lineman from Independence, Iowa, made the trip to see the Hawkeyes. [autotag]David Caulker[/autotag] from North High School in Des Moines visited, too. Here were some of their reactions to the weekend.
