Warriors land Georgia’s Anthony Edwards in new Bleacher Report NBA Mock Draft

With the first overall selection in Bleacher Report’s NBA Mock Draft, the Golden State Warriors landed Georgia wing Anthony Edwards.

Unlike 22 other teams in the NBA, the Golden State Warriors will be staying at home for the NBA’s restart in the Orlando Bubble. With the league’s worst record at 15-50, the Warriors are one of eight teams outside the bubble. With their season officially over, the Warriors can turn their attention to the NBA Draft.

For the first time since 2002, the Warriors will have the opportunity to make a selection in the top-five picks of the NBA Draft. The Warriors will have a better idea of what their options are in the top-five once the NBA Lottery occurs in August. Until then, mock drafts will take a shot at predicting whom the Warriors will add in October’s edition of draft day.

USC’s Onyeka Okongwu, Memphis big James Wiseman, Florida State’s Devin Vassell and Iowa State’s Tyrese Haliburton have all had their names listed alongside Golden State in mock drafts.

In his freshman season at Georgia, Edwards averaged 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. In 32 contests, the SEC Freshman of the Year shot 40.2% from the field and 29.4% from beyond the arc.

In Warriors Wire’s July Big Board, the Bulldogs wing topped the list with the No. 1 overall spot.

Edwards would give the Warriors an explosive athlete with the ability to score downhill. The former McDonald’s All-American could serve as a primary playmaker next to Eric Paschall in Steve Kerr’s second unit. At only 18-years-old, Edwards has time to develop behind Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry in Golden State’s backcourt.

As the 2020 draft season continues to heat up in the Bay Area, more mock drafts will begin to pour in with predictions for the Golden State Warriors’ top pick.

Georgia basketball star Anthony Edwards joins Lebron James, signs with Klutch Sports Group

Per Klutch Sports Group’s Twitter account, Georgia basketball star Anthony Edwards has signed with the agency who also represents Lebron.

Former Georgia basketball star, 2019-20 SEC Freshman of the Year Anthony Edwards, has signed with Klutch Sports Group, according to their Twitter.

Klutch Sports Group is a sports agency founded by Rich Paul – known most famously as agent to NBA superstar Lebron James – and has been in the news most recently for the signing of Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young and now Edwards, the potential No. 1 pick of this year’s NBA Draft.

Rich Paul and Klutch Sports Group also represents NBA players like Anthony Davis, John Wall, Ben Simmons and Draymond Green with Edwards now being the youngest athlete signed.

Edwards was a one-and-done at Georgia. In 2019, he was the nation’s leading freshman scorer at 19.1 ppg and was named second-team All-SEC by both the coaches and the AP.

DawgNation, mark your calendars for October 16, as Edwards looks to become the first Bulldog drafted No. 1 overall in the NBA Draft.

Projected lottery pick Anthony Edwards has signed with the Klutch Sports Group for professional representation ahead of the NBA Draft, the agency announced on Sunday.

Edwards established himself as a human highlight reel during his lone season at Georgia and offered a glimpse of what he can bring to the next level toward the end of the season. He averaged 21.8 points per game in February and proved to be nearly unguardable near the rim.

After a solid rookie campaign, Edwards joined fellow draft prospect Tyrese Maxey in signing with the Klutch Sports Group. Edwards and Maxey are the only two known prospects to sign with the Rich Paul-led agency.

Klutch Sports has emerged as perhaps the top agency in the NBA given its All-Star clientele, headlined by LeBron James, Anthony Davis and John Wall among others. Paul signed several prospects from the 2019 NBA Draft class, including Darius Garland, Darius Bazley and Talen Horton-Tucker.

Warriors land Georgia’s Anthony Edwards in USA TODAY Sports NBA mock draft 2.0

In Jeff Zillgitt’s NBA mock draft 2.0 for USA TODAY Sports, the Golden State Warriors land Georgia’s Anthony Edwards with the first pick.

Although the Golden State Warriors won’t be attending the league’s restart in Orlando, Bob Myers and Steve Kerr will have additional time to focus on the NBA Draft. For the first time in years, the Warriors will have the opportunity to land a premier prospect in the top-five picks of the draft.

While there is still a significant chunk of time before October’s draft day, mock draft season is starting to heat up. Predictions are rolling in for what the Warriors should do with their top pick. Memphis’ James Wiseman, Dayton’s Obi Toppin and Florida State’s Devin Vassell have been some of the names listed alongside the Warriors in mock drafts.

In Jeff Zillgitt’s latest mock draft for USA TODAY Sports, the Golden State Warriors landed Georgia’s Anthony Edwards with the first overall pick. According to Zillgitt, the Georgia shooting guard has “immediate All-Star ability.”

Via USA TODAY Sports:

Edwards is an explosive scorer with immediate All-Star ability and two-way upside, making him the front-runner to hear his name called first.

During his freshman season in Athens, Edwards tallied 19.1 points per game on 40.2% shooting from the field. The SEC Rookie of the Year added 5.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per contest.

On his way to earning All-SEC honors, Edwards recorded a flurry of thrilling scoring performances. The 18-year-old tallied 30 or more points in three appearances during his freshman campaign for the Bulldogs.

Against Michigan State, Edwards recorded his career-night. The McDonalds All-American ripped off 37 points, six rebounds, four steals, three blocks and two assists. Edwards splashed seven long-distance shots from beyond the arc against the Spartans.

Along with a young piece to build on in the future, Edwards would give Kerr an explosive downhill option behind Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in Golden State’s backcourt.

Warriors add Georgia’s Anthony Edwards in CBS Sports mock draft 2.0

In Kyle Boone’s latest mock draft for CBS Sports, the Golden State Warriors land Georgia shooting guard Anthony Edwards with the top pick.

As 22 teams prepare to restart the season in Orlando, the Golden State Warriors will get an early jump on the offseason. While the Warriors 2019-20 campaign is closing, a different season is just beginning.

With their regular season over, it’s time for the Warriors to engage in draft season. As buzz continues to ramp up leading to October’s draft day, predictions are starting to roll in for Golden State’s pick. Early in the process, LaMelo Ball, Obi Toppin and James Wiseman have been trendy names for the Warriors in mock drafts.

In Kyle Boone’s mock draft 2.0 for CBS Sports, Golden State lands Georgia’s Anthony Edwards with the first overall pick.

Via CBS Sports:

Edwards is an explosive athlete with a big frame and brimming with defensive potential who could give Golden State a boost of depth and shot-making on the wing.

On his way to winning the SEC Freshman of the Year nod, Edwards averaged 19.1 points on 40.2% shooting from the field with 5.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Connor Letourneau of The San Francisco Chronicle previously reported the Warriors would “likely” take Edwards with the top overall selection in the draft.

Although there’s a bevy of smokescreens around what the Warriors could do in the top-five picks, Edwards has proven he’s worthy of an early selection. The former McDonald’s All-American is an electric playmaker that could fill a needed role behind Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in the backcourt. Edwards’ ability to play downhill in isolation could energize Steve Kerr’s second unit.

At only 18-years-old, the Warriors could continue to develop Edwards over time while he helps extend their chances of vying for the playoffs on day one.

Projected top-five pick Anthony Edwards showed off an array of his tricks in a new workout video ahead of the NBA Draft posted on social media this week.

Edwards established himself as a human highlight reel during his lone season at Georgia and offered a glimpse of what he can bring to the next level toward the end of the season with the Bulldogs. He averaged 21.8 points per game in February and proved to be nearly unguardable near the rim.

During his workout video posted on social media, Edwards was seen throwing down some dunks while he also showed off his improved range after hitting some 3-pointers from well beyond the line.

The NBA announced last week that the Draft is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 15 while the Lottery is set for Aug. 25 so prospects will likely begin to ramp up workouts in the coming weeks. The league is also considering hosting a Combine-like event in Orlando in August so rumors and news regarding the Draft should begin to surface in the coming weeks.

2020 NBA Mock Draft 2.0: Will LaMelo Ball be the No. 1 pick?

With the bottom eight teams locked into their spot in the draft lottery, the direction of the draft is starting to shake out.

The NBA’s decision to include just the top 22 teams in the league’s restart in Orlando at Disney World leaves the bottom eight teams locked into their current position. While it will lead to an elongated break for those eight teams between their last games in mid-March and the 2020-21 season start in December, it also allows the franchises to switch their focus to the 2020 NBA Draft.

Both Bob Myers, general manager of the Warriors, and Travis Schlenk, general manager of the Hawks, have spoken in recent days about the upcoming draft and the plans the teams have for the selections. With those eight spots definitely locked in, here’s our 2.0 version of the mock draft for those teams.

1. Golden State Warriors – James Wiseman, Big, Memphis

The Warriors have made it abundantly clear that they don’t have much interest in drafting LaMelo Ball. In terms of fit, Ball doesn’t make much sense with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. But in terms of talent, he may be the best.

Still, the gap between him and James Wiseman may not be all that big in terms of talent but the latter is a significantly better fit. Wiseman could plug into the front court next to Draymond Green and help fill a hole the Warriors have long been searching to plug.

Atlanta Hawks GM Travis Schlenk says team won’t draft on positional need

Despite having arguably the best young point guard in the league, the Atlanta Hawks aren’t shying away from potentially drafting LaMelo Ball.

For the second consecutive season, the Atlanta Hawks find themselves in the top five in the NBA Draft. Already armed with Trae Young and with a draft full of guards at the top, selecting a player like LaMelo Ball could be seen as creating an odd fit in the backcourt.

However, given the current state of their rebuild, an argument could also be made for simply drafting the best player available. Atlanta Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk held a conference call on Tuesday and addressed his team’s gameplan heading into the 2020 NBA Draft, noting that they won’t be making draft picks solely on positional need.

Via Brad Rowland/Peachtree Hoops:

“Certainly when we’re picking in the top eight, we’re not going to draft a guy based on positional need. We’re going to try to take the guy we think is the best player for us and that is going to fit in with our team. I do think, when you get back into the second round, or late in the draft like we’ll have a pick in the 50’s, then there might be a situation where if you have two guys of similar ability, you might take the guy who fills a need then. Because now you’re thinking about roster depth and things of that nature. But, at the top of the draft, we’ll certainly focus on who we think’s got the chance to be the most impactful player.”

A Ball/Young backcourt is certainly an intriguing idea. While both would be glaring negatives defensively, they would have the potential to not only be one of the best young pairings but one of the best offensive backcourt in the whole league.

Depending on where the Hawks land in the draft lottery, Ball may make the most sense. It’s likely that Ball wouldn’t be the top prospect on their big board with someone like James Wiseman making a bit more sense even if the team isn’t drafting on positional need. But if the team lands third, one spot above the current fourth they sit in the draft lottery, and Wiseman and Anthony Edwards are off the board, passing over Ball because the team already has a point guard would likely be a regrettable move.
