Lee Davis joins Sooners as their Director of On-Campus recruiting

Lee Davis takes over as the Oklahoma Sooners Director of On-Campus Recruiting.

While the on-field staff has finally found its footing and is stocked on both sides of the ball, behind the scenes, the Oklahoma Sooners are building a team that can help Oklahoma take another step forward in the recruiting world.

Lee Davis joins the Sooners as their Director of On-Campus Recruiting.

Davis is an Alabama alum and worked as a student assistant under Nick Saban. Her most recent job had her in Gainesville as the Director of Recruiting Operations for four years under Dan Mullen. Before that, she was the coordinator of recruiting operations at Mississippi State from 2011 to 2017.

Inside the Gators wrote a feature piece describing Davis’ role in detail. In many ways, Davis replaces Annie Hanson, who held the same position at Oklahoma before following Lincoln Riley to take the same position at USC.

Davis has a lot of experience and joins an Oklahoma staff ready to embark on multiple months of heavy recruiting.

Davis is already familiar with a few Oklahoma players and their families. Most notably, quarterback Nick Evers and wide receiver Jayden Gibson. Before the Gators coaching change, Evers and Gibson were committed to Florida and Dan Mullen. Like Oklahoma lost commitments after their coaching change, the Sooners this time benefitted from the transition at Florida, landing commitments from Evers and Gibson.

With Davis in the fold and J.R. Sandlin as the head of Player Personnel and Recruiting, the Sooners have revamped the entire recruiting backbone of their program from a year ago. With an eye to 2023 and 2024, we’ll be closely following Davis and Sandlin as they look to make their mark on Oklahoma’s recruiting efforts.

LOOK: Oklahoma Sooners past and future launch CHO23N recruiting campaign

Oklahoma Sooners of the past and future took to Twitter to launch OU’s #CHO23N recruiting campaign with personalized player cards and videos.

It’s been a pretty great summer already on the 2023 recruiting trail. Early in the cycle, the Oklahoma Sooners have landed three five-star commitments, two four-star commitments, and one from a quickly rising interior offensive lineman.

As August gives way to September and the opening of the latest contact period, the Oklahoma Sooners began their 2023 recruiting push with a social media launch.

Using the hashtag #CHO23N, the OU athletics media department launched a social media push for the class of 2023. With Sooners in the NFL and 2023 commits like Malachi Nelson and Luke Hasz on board, Annie Hanson and her team created a multimedia campaign to assist with the Sooners recruiting efforts.

Not only is the “23” in #CHO23N a reference to the 2023 recruiting cycle, but a reference to their deal with Michael Jordan and his brand of apparel. Jordan highlights can be seen in short videos produced for Malachi Nelson and Luke Hasz’s Twitter accounts.

The videos take on a late 80s hip-hop music video flair aimed at targets from Oklahoma, California, and Florida and shared by their high-level commits from each of those states.

Though much of the focus in college football is on the week one slate of games, the OU athletic department captured the attention of the college football world with its launch. It was a fun and exciting look at the past and future of Oklahoma Sooners football.

Take a look at the player cards and videos the OU athletics media department created for such former greats like CeeDee Lamb, Lane Johnson, and Samaje Perine.

Oklahoma offensive analyst Zach Hanson to be offensive line coach at Tulsa

Zach Hanson, who was an offensive analyst for the Sooners last season, has been hired by Tulsa football as their offensive line coach.

Zach Hanson, who was the senior offensive analyst for the Sooners last season, has been hired by Tulsa football as their offensive line coach.

Hanson spent one year as the senior offensive analyst. He is the husband of Oklahoma recruiting director and assistant athletic director Annie Hanson.

Both Zach and Annie briefly worked at North Carolina together before Annie was hired on at Oklahoma. Zach had a short stint as a full-time assistant coach with his alma mater Kansas State before getting the call from the Sooners.

Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery had this to say about the addition to his staff: “In talking with Lincoln [Riley], I know he hates to see Zach leave but [is] excited for him to get back on the field and do what he loves to do. Zach will be an asset to our program and will do an outstanding job with our offensive line.”

At 31-years-old, Hanson will be replacing Mike Bloesch, who will be taking the co-offensive coordinator job at North Texas.
