Andy Murray ended his pro tennis career with the most perfect 5-word tweet

What a way to cap off an incredible career.

Andy Murray’s incredible tennis career came to an end on Thursday in Paris as his Great Britain doubles team with Dan Evans fell to Americans Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul. Murray’s pro career started in 2005 and ended in 2024 with a remarkable singles’ record of 739–262, three Grand Slam titles (U.S. Open in 2012, Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016) and two Olympic gold medals (2012 and 2016).

After concluding his illustrious lifetime on the court as a professional player, the 37-year-old tennis legend summed up his career in the most perfect way with a five-word tweet.

“Never even liked tennis anyway.”

Murray also quickly changed his bio from “I play tennis” to “I played tennis.”

Australian Open 2023: Andy Murray comes back from down 2 sets to defeat Thanasi Kokkinakis and advance to third round

A legendary performance from one of the all-time greats.

If you haven’t been paying much attention to this year’s Australian Open, you likely missed an all-time moment.

Into the wee hours of the morning in Melbourne (past 4:00 a.m. local time, to be more specific), 35-year-old Andy Murray pulled off a miraculous comeback to defeat the younger Thanasi Kokkinakis in five sets and advance past the tournament’s second round.

Murray trailed Kokkinakis by two sets before kicking things into another gear and initiating the unforgettable comeback. The third set, which he fought tooth and nail for to stave off elimination, provided what could go down as the highlight of the Open.

The highlight:

The incredible defense during the rally earned Murray the game and eventually the set by the score of 7-6. He’d go on to take the fourth set 6-3 to set up a fifth and deciding one.

Of course, Murray’s huge comeback would’ve been meaningless without finishing it off with a victory. But Murray sealed the deal five hours and 45 minutes later after a 7-5 final-set win in what’s now officially the second-longest Australian Open match ever.

The comeback gave Murray his 11th win from down two sets, which is the most in the Open era.

Murray has +4000 odds at BetMGM to win the Australian Open.

Andy Murray trolls Stefanos Tsitsipas on Twitter after U.S. Open bathroom break complaints

SHADE.

We have ourselves a controversy of sorts brewing at the U.S. Open and in tennis in general.

And it has to do with bathroom breaks. Seriously!

Let’s break it down: Andy Murray lost to No. 3 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas on Monday, a match that lasted nearly FIVE hours.

It was in the middle of the match that Tsitsipas took a bathroom break, which is within the rules. But it was the length of that break — around eight minutes — that had Murray fuming and complaining to officials. He then ranted about Tsitsipas after the loss … but it’s not the first time a player has done so about the Greek star, with talk that he might be taking well-timed breaks to mess with opponents’ rhythms.

What’s more, Murray threw some more shade at him on Twitter Tuesday morning. Let’s break it all down:

Get ready to cry like a big dumb idiot baby at this Andy Murray documentary

The trailer for ‘Andy Murray: Resurfacing’ looks excellent.

Hope y’all are ready for cry time. Because guess what? It’s cry time.

Amazon released its first trailer for Andy Murray: Resurfacing, its new documentary that traces Murray’s comeback from an extremely painful hip injury that threatened to end his career.

Murray is about as introspective an athlete as we have right now, and just from this clip you can tell that the filmmakers got excellent access. It’s out November 29 on Amazon.

Is it going to be predictable, with Murray faltering due to injury, confronting the end of his career, and then working his way back to Wimbledon? Yes, almost certainly. Will there be tons of awful tennis puns? Considering its title, and the fact that they reference “break point” in the trailer, you better believe it.

Will I still cry like a big dumb idiot baby for the entire thing? Absolutely.
