Andrew Vaughn carried Tim Anderson away, was the real MVP of the Guardians – White Sox brawl

The real MVP of the basebrawl between the White Sox and Guardians.

There was so much to take in from what ended up being a serious basebrawl on Saturday between the Cleveland Guardians and Chicago White Sox.

There was, at the center of it, Jose Ramirez and Tim Anderson throwing actual haymakers at each other before the Guardians third baseman sent the White Sox shortstop sprawling to the dirt with one punch that led to Cleveland radio invoking Howard Cosell.

And then there was Parts 2 and 3 of the brawl, which led to Anderson’s teammate Andrew Vaughn literally picking up the shortstop and bringing him to the dugout, seemingly with ease:

Good work.

Andrew Vaughn summed up the feeling of every White Sox fan after snapping a 10-game losing streak

“Guys … we won a baseball game!”

It would be an understatement to say it’s been a tough season for the Chicago White Sox and their fans.

We just started May, and Chicago is 8-21 as one of the MLB’s bona fide absolute worst teams. And before a rainy Sunday tilt against the juggernaut Tampa Bay Rays had lost an unthinkable 10 consecutive games.

As expected, it looked like Tampa Bay would make it 11 straight losses after holding a 9-5 lead in the ninth inning. But then the White Sox shockingly rallied with seven runs. By the end of their rally, they capped a 12-9 comeback win — in front of a mostly-empty stadium — with a three-run shot from Andrew Vaughn.

After the game, Vaughn summed up Chicago’s shocking win and their woes thus far in a hilariously succinct way:

Those White Sox fans are impossible to see in the background, but I bet if they heard what Vaughn said (and how he said it), they’d be nodding vigorously.

There’s a lot of baseball left in 2023, and maybe Chicago does get back on track. For now, Vaughn’s remarks sum up a terrible first month.

Joc Pederson hit a ball so hard that it pierced the webbing of Andrew Vaughn’s glove

That is so unlucky.

Sometimes, fans probably don’t realize just how hard Major League Baseball players can hit a baseball. The view from the broadcast doesn’t do it justice.

Andrew Vaughn’s glove can attest to that.

During Wednesday’s game between the San Francisco Giants and Chicago White Sox, Joc Pederson smoked a line drive against Dylan Cease with an exit velocity of 109.1 mph. The ball was hit right at Vaughn who made a perfect reaction to give himself a chance at retiring Pederson. The problem: Vaughn’s glove couldn’t handle a baseball at that speed.

When trying to figure out what happened, the White Sox broadcast was in disbelief to see that the baseball went right through the webbing of Vaughn’s glove. A 109.1 mph liner will do that.

It honestly doesn’t get much unluckier than that for an infielder. He did everything right to make a play, but the equipment just couldn’t hold up its end of the bargain. Thankfully for Vaughn, he didn’t get penalized for the play as it was ruled a single.

MLB fans were also stunned by that play. Pederson crushed that baseball.
