Report: Rams showed interest in free-agent OLB Andrew Van Ginkel

The Rams are in the market for pass-rush help and showed interest in Andrew Van Ginkel before he agreed to a deal with the Vikings

There’s no hiding the fact that the Los Angeles Rams want to add pass-rush help this offseason. Whether they do that in free agency or the draft (or both) remains to be seen, but they’re going to bring in talent to go with Aaron Donald, Kobie Turner and Byron Young.

Though the Rams haven’t added anyone yet, they did show interest in edge rusher Andrew Van Ginkel on Monday before he agreed to a deal with the Vikings, according to Adam Caplan of Pro Football Network. Van Ginkel got a two-year deal worth $20 million from Minnesota, which would’ve been a very reasonable contract for the Rams to give him.

Unfortunately, they couldn’t get it done but they’ll still be in the market for edge rushers.

Van Ginkel enjoyed a breakout season in Miami last year, recording a career-high 53 pressures and six sacks in 17 games (11 starts). He dropped into coverage often, too, which is something the Rams asked Michael Hoecht to do frequently last year.

Look for the Rams to remain active in the pass rusher market this week.

The Real Forno Show: Vikings agree to terms with Andrew Van Ginkel and Blake Cashman

The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to sign OLB Andrew Van Ginkel and ILB Blake Cashman. The Real Forno Show breaks it down.

The Minnesota Vikings have made another splash move in free agency. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Minnesota Vikings have agreed to terms with Miami Dolphins OLB Andrew Van Ginkel on a two-year, $20 million contract.

This deal comes after the Vikings already agreed to terms with Houston Texans edge rusher Jonathan Greenard for four years and $76 million. This defense is continuing to reshape itself under the image of Brian Flores.

What does Van Ginkel bring to the Vikings? He does have a history with Flores having played for him for three seasons and breaking out in 2021 with 45 pressures and six sacks. He will come in and be a versatile chess piece on a defense that needs it.

The Vikings also agreed to terms with former Texans linebacker Blake Cashman on a three-year deal worth up to $25.5 million. What does he bring to the table?

What else will the Vikings have in store for the rest of free agency? We are here to break it all down and more on the latest episode of The Real Forno Show, airing Monday and Wednesday nights at 6 pm central on the Vikings 1st & SKOL YouTube channel.

Former Dolphins LB Andrew Van Ginkel agrees to join Vikings

AVG agrees to a two-year deal with Minnesota.

While the Miami Dolphins had done a solid job of signing their own pending free agents, they’ve started to lose a number of them in the hours since the legal tampering window opened.

After defensive lineman Christian Wilkins and safety Brandon Jones reportedly found new homes, Dolphins Wire’s own Jason Sarney reported that Dolphins linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel has agreed to join the Minnesota Vikings on a two-year deal worth $20 million ($14 million guaranteed).

Van Ginkel, 28, was selected by Miami in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL draft out of Wisconsin. In his five seasons with the team, he recorded 250 tackles (31 for a loss), 57 quarterback hits, 21 passes defensed, 17 sacks, four forced fumbles, three fumbles recovered and two interceptions.

He’ll now reconnect with his former head coach, Brian Flores, who is now the Vikings defensive coordinator.

For the Dolphins, they’ll need to find more depth at outside linebacker/defensive end with Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips recovering from serious injuries.

1 pending free agent the Ravens could target from each AFC team

We’re looking at one pending free agent from each AFC team that the Baltimore Ravens could target

Free agency is about two weeks away, and the Baltimore Ravens have several players set to hit the open market. General manager Eric DeCosta has to make crucial decisions to fill roster holes.

While DeCosta will likely look to the free agent market for answers, several in-house free agents are candidates to sign an extension ahead of free agency.

But there are also many of them, including some of Baltimore’s higher-profile free agents, likely on the way out.

With the NFL combine set to wrap up and the new league year just eight days away, we’re looking at one pending free agent the Ravens could target from each AFC club.

4 Dolphins make Touchdown Wire’s top 101 free agents of 2024

4 of Miami’s free agents among Touchdown Wire’s top 101 hitting the market.

The Miami Dolphins have a huge free-agent class this offseason, as 29 of their players are set to hit the market when the new league year starts.

Some key members of their roster, including Christian Wilkins and Robert Hunt, who often battled during practices and training camp, could be finding new homes in the next month, but Dolphins general manager Chris Grier will try his best to keep his team intact.

Touchdown Wire recently released their rankings of the top 101 free agents for 2024 and four Dolphins made the list: Wilkins, Hunt, Andrew Van Ginkel and Connor Williams.

Here’s a quick look at where they ranked:

2024 NFL free agency: 15 Early potential targets for the Ravens

We’re looking at 15 early 2024 NFL free agents that the Baltimore Ravens could potentially target

We’re less than a month away from NFL free agency, which begins at 4 p.m. ET on March 13. But the legal tampering window opens two days before that on March 11 at noon ET, where teams can negotiate with free agents before the official start of the new league year.

The 2024 salary cap hasn’t been set yet, but it’s expected to land north of $240 million, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

The Ravens are among several NFL teams that have some work to do over the next month to rebuild their roster, and they’ll work to free up cash with two All-Pros set to hit free agency.

Ranking 2024’s top 12 free-agent pass rushers

There’s a pretty familiar name in this group.

Whether the Carolina Panthers tag or extend Brian Burns, we’re not going to see the two-time Pro Bowler even swim in the waters of free agency. But until then, he’s one of the 12 best edge defenders whose contracts are officially up.

Here’s Burns and his 11 pass-rushing pals:

2024 NFL free agency: 30 potential targets for the Eagles

We’re looking at the top 30 potential NFL free agent targets for the Philadelphia Eagles

The 2024 NFL offseason is officially underway after the Chiefs’ 25-22 win over the 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII from Las Vegas.

The league will take the next month to catch its breath, but the slowdown won’t last long, as potential free agents will face the franchise tag, and all 32 teams will head to Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine at the end of February.

The 2024 cap is expected to exceed $240 million, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, and where things currently stand, Philadelphia is expected to have roughly $20,284,984 in cap space.

The Birds are set to have 20 pending free agents, and with another likely retool schedule on defense, the organization could conjure up a scheme for more flexibility.

According to Over the Cap’s potential transaction chart, the Eagles can easily create $35.4 million in cap space by making these five moves.

With the new league year fast approaching, we’re looking at 30 potential free-agent targets for Philadelphia.

WATCH: Top 10 sacks for Dolphins in 2023

The best sacks from Miami’s record-setting 2023 season.

For good chunks of the 2023 season, the Miami Dolphins had one of the best defenses in football under Vic Fangio’s leadership.

Before all of the injuries started to rack up on that side of the ball, they were getting to the quarterback consistently and forcing turnovers regularly for a long stretch.

Miami’s 2023 team recorded 56 total sacks which was the most for a single season in franchise history, beating out the 1983 and 2005 Dolphins that both finished their years with 49 sacks.

Now that the team is in offseason mode, Miami’s content team has been producing highlights from the last year, including a compilation of the Dolphins’ 10 best sacks from 2023.

With some recovering from serious injuries and potential departures in free agency, Miami’s defense could look very different in 2024, so let’s enjoy these moments while we can.
