Seahawks Week 17 inactives: 6 players will not play

Seahawks Week 17 inactives: 6 players will not play vs Bears

The Seattle Seahawks are less than two hours away from kicking off against the Chicago Bears on Thursday Night Football. The inactives list for both teams have dropped, and as expected running back Kenneth Walker III will not be competing Walker was added to the injured reserve list on Thursday. Unless the Seahawks somehow find their way to the NFC Championship game, Walker’s 2024 campaign is concluded.

Joining Walker on the sideline will be a few others, such as tight end Brady Russell who has missed several weeks due to his injury. While he is inactive, quarterback Jaren Hall will be listed as an emergency third-string quarterback. Given Geno Smith’s knee injury, having a little extra insurance at the most important position in all of sports isn’t a bad idea.

On the other side of the ball, 12’s should recognize another familiar name. Running back Travis Homer for the Bears is inactive. Homer was originally drafted by the Seahawks in the 6th round of the 2019 NFL draft, and Seattle is where he spent the first four years of his career. After his rookie contract expired, Homer signed a two-year deal with Chicago in 2023.

The full inactives report from both teams can be seen below.

Seahawks Inactives:

  • CB Nehemiah Pritchett
  • TE Brady Russell
  • LB Patrick O’Connell
  • T Michael Jerrell
  • WR Cody White
  • QB Jaren Hall

Bears Inactives:

  • RB Travis Homer
  • DB Tarvarius Moore
  • OL Teven Jenkins
  • DB Elijah Hicks
  • LB Noah Sewell
  • DL Zach Pickens

The Seahawks will get the ball to start the second half. Be sure to follow @TheSeahawksWire and @KoleMusgrove23 for more live updates, analysis and highlights during the game!

Richard Sherman has harsh words for NFL officiating over PI calls against Commanders

Richard Sherman is fed up with NFL officiating’s bias toward offensive players.

The Washington Commanders shocked the NFL world, snapping the Philadelphia Eagles’ 10-game winning streak with a 36-33 win on Sunday. One day later, Eagles’ fans complained that NFL officiating cost them the game.

In Sunday’s game between the two NFC East rivals, the Commanders and Eagles were heavily penalized, with 93 and 91 yards, respectively. Plenty of questionable calls went against both teams.

However, the defensive pass interference penalties against Washington cornerback Marshon Lattimore appeared the most questionable. Lattimore was flagged three times for pass interference, one of which gave the Eagles 38 yards. Two plays later, officials flagged Lattimore again, this time for 23 yards. The Eagles eventually kicked a field goal but were aided by a ridiculous 61 yards in penalties.

Former All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman, now an analyst for Amazon Prime, was having none of it, criticizing NFL officiating for the pass-interference calls on Lattimore.

“The whole world is biased for offensive players, so somebody gotta be based the other way,” Sherman said on the “Richard Sherman Podcast.” “Those PI calls on Lattimore were absolute horses–t. Absolute horses–t. I’m so tired of this game getting so soft and ridiculous and people having the audacity to complain about it. Like, how are those PIs? If the receiver is physical, then you have to let the DB at least defend himself. Don’t be praising these receivers for being, ‘Ohhh, man; he’s so physical. He’s so strong.’ And you see him pushing the corner in the neck and pushing him off and grabbing him by the collar. And then, when the corner gets his hands off of him, you’re like, ‘Oh my God, you can’t grab him.'”

More from Sherman:

“What about him grabbing me by the neck while running his route? Because everything’s acceptable for a receiver to do, but there’s nothing acceptable for a corner to do. Let the boys play. I don’t know what you want him to do. You want him to stay close to him while he’s getting pushed and not grab him back? Have you ever been punched in the face and then just kept getting punched in the face, and then they’re like, ‘Hey, don’t worry, if he punch you in the face one more time, we’ll say something.’ They’re not.”

He’s 100% correct. The NFL is geared toward favoring the offense. Everyone wants more scoring. Over the years, the rules have changed to favor the receiver, but nothing was ever changed for the defensive back. The league is always taking from the defense and giving to the offense. Have you seen some of the roughing calls?

Of course, nothing is more costly than defensive pass interference. It’s a spot foul. The officials were so bad that Philadelphia quarterback Kenny Pickett could’ve continued to underthrow A.J. Brown. If Brown and Lattimore had even touched it, they would’ve thrown the flag against Lattimore.

Lattimore and Brown were all over each other. It was good, old-fashioned football between two players among the best at their respective positions. If the NFL continues to insist that defensive pass interference is a spot foul, it must be reviewable moving forward. Of course, that would mean the NFL admitting its mistakes, and we know they hate doing that.

Commanders vs. Eagles: Best photos from Week 11

Here are the top photos from Thursday night’s NFC East battle between the Commanders and Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Commanders 26-18 on Thursday night, increasing their NFC East lead to 1.5 games.

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns, with most of that damage coming in the fourth quarter. Washington entered the final quarter holding a 10-6 lead before the Eagles scored 20 points over the next seven minutes to pull away from the Commanders.

Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels struggled, completing 22 of 32 passes for 191 yards with a touchdown and interception, but most of those completions came on checkdowns or short passes.

Here are some of the best photos from the Week 11 edition of Thursday Night Football.

Prediction and betting odds for Commanders vs. Eagles in Week 11

Analyzing Commanders vs. Eagles game with odds and lines, predictions and best bets.

The Philadelphia Eagles (7-2) host the Washington Commanders in the Week 11 edition of Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime. It’s a showdown for first place in the NFC East between the Eagles and resurgent Commanders.

It’s Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels’ first career start against Philadelphia. He’s excited to play in front of the passionate Eagles’ fan base.

“I’m excited just to go to Philly and that type of atmosphere,” Daniels said Tuesday. “Heard they got very passionate fans, so man, I can’t wait. I can’t wait to go out there and see that fan base, and just experience that. And I know it’s going to be a great venue, a great site, and we’ll just go out there and see what happens.”

Will the Commanders shock the Eagles? Here are the latest odds ahead of Thursday’s game. The Commanders Wire staff also makes game predictions.

Commanders vs. Eagles game odds:

All NFL Odds via BetMGM:

  • Point spread: Commanders +3.5 (-115) / Eagles -3.5 (-105)
  • Money line: Commanders +150 / Eagles -185
  • Over-under: 48.5 (O: -110 / U: -110)

Commanders vs. Eagles injury updates:

  • Commanders OT Cornelius Lucas: Questionable (ankle)
  • Commanders OT Brandon Coleman: Questionable (shoulder)
  • Commanders OT Andrew Wylie: Questionable (shoulder)
  • Commanders K Austin Seibert: Out (hip)
  • Commanders CB Marshon Lattimore: Out (hamstring)

Commanders vs. Eagles prediction, pick:

Bryan Manning: A hard-fought game that comes down to the wire, but the Eagles are healthy, while the Commanders are banged up. Saquon Barkley and A.J. Brown have big games for the Eagles, as Washington has no answer Brown. Jayden Daniels makes it close, but the Eagles pull away late behind the legs of Barkley. Eagles 27, Commanders 24

Ivan Lambert: Will Washington be able to run the ball effectively against the Eagles? They will need to keep scoring and keep their own defense off the field long enough for some good breaks.

Though Jayden Daniels had a subpar game against the Steelers, is still fourth in the NFL in QBR. So Daniels has shown an ability to move the chains and get into the end zone.

The Eagles, meanwhile, have surrendered only 161 points this season. They no doubt will have watched the Steelers film and made the adjustments to play Daniels the same way, taking away his runs.

Saquon Barkley teamed with this Eagles offense may be too much for the Washington defense. Eagles 23, Commanders 20

Serena Burks: The Eagles will be a tough test for the Commanders, and this game sets the tone for the remainder of the season for both teams. The Eagles have the edge because they’re at home, but the Commanders are hungry. They haven’t lost back-to-back games all season, and I don’t think that starts now. Plus, the Eagles’ last five games have all been against sub-.500 teams. It will be close and probably won’t be pretty, but the Commanders win. Commanders 30, Eagles 27

Richard Sherman: Saints played like they wanted their coach fired

Richard Sherman said the Saints defense played ‘like they want to get their coach fired’ in the first half against the Broncos:

Yeesh. Former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman didn’t hold back on the Amazon Prime halftime show during “Thursday Night Football,” after watching the New Orleans Saints slump into a 16-3 deficit.

He particularly took aim at the Saints defense’s poor performance, going so far as to suggest the unit’s poor effort was because they wanted head coach Dennis Allen to be fired.

“I’m telling you, Tony, I’m confused, I’m vexed, I’m perplexed, I don’t get it. These are good players,”  Sherman said. “They don’t want to tackle, they don’t want to make plays. … I don’t understand this, it seems like they want to get their coach fired, that’s the effort they’re playing with.”

Sherman pointed to an uncharacteristic dropped interception by Tyrann Mathieu as one example. Mathieu could’ve snagged his 36th career pick when Bo Nix threw it right to him, only for the veteran safety to lose his grip, and the pass fell incomplete. Mathieu would’ve had a lot of room to run, too.

There were other miscues. A lot of missed tackles, including some bad whiffs by ironman linebacker Demario Davis and a couple of almost-sacks that got away from Chase Young and Johnathan Abram. These are all problems we’ve seen for a month now in their last four losses. They can’t stop the run, allowing 6 or more yards per carry in three of their last four games and giving up 130-plus yards and two scores in the one outlier.

For a coach lauded for his defensive background, it’s been Dennis Allen’s side of the ball slipping away from their fundamentals. And respected voices around the league’s media landscape like Sherman are taking notice.

Garrett Wilson & Jets’ QB Aaron Rodgers are starting to sync

Garrett Wilson & Jets’ QB Aaron Rodgers are starting to sync

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is beginning to function well with wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

The quick passing game seems to be working in the Jets offense with Wilson and running back Breece Hall working as primary targets. The accurate quick-throws made by Rodgers are impeccable and nearly unstoppable at times.

Rodgers likes to get Wilson the football in space where his agility and speed will allow for yards after the catch. Both players spent countless hours working through training camp to build timing and rapport and while things are still a work in progress, Wilson produced four catches on just five targets, finishing with 57 receiving yards in week 2.

As long as offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett commits to a healthy balance of both run and pass plays, Rodgers can target Wilson at fairer volumes.Wilson gives his team an advantage in 1-on-1 situations, and it’s definitely because he has one of the most accurate quarterbacks in NFL history to throw him the ball.

Bills’ defense steps up vs. Dolphins: ‘They had our back’

#Bills’ defense steps up vs. Dolphins: ‘They had our back’

The Buffalo Bills bested their division rival Miami Dolphins 31-10 in South Florida during a short-week meeting to kickoff NFL Week 2 and Thursday Night Football.

With the win, quarterback Josh Allen improved to 7-0 on TNF and 12-2 against Miami in his career thus far.

And while Cook and the offense understandably received praise for their performance after the victory, much of that recognition was also directed towards the Bills defense.

“You know, you look at the stat sheet, I don’t, I don’t know what our numbers were, but I know we were really low in time with possession, and we were probably really low in total yards, but still managed to put up 31 points, and that, that means your defense is doing something, right? So they had our back tonight, and we’re going to need them going forward,” Allen said during his postgame media session. “And I’m just very proud of how guys stepped up into their to their roles, and they played together. You know, when you play together like that, you’re typically going to have good results.”

As Allen, Cook, and receiver Khalil Shakir were getting it done offensively, the same could be said about defensive tackle Ed Oliver and veteran outside linebacker Von Miller who each had sacks up front, as well as defensive backs Christian Benford (1) and J’Marcus Ingram (2) in the secondary, who both added interceptions.

“All 11 guys play together,” Oliver said. “If everybody do their job, it make it easy on everybody. Nobody has a hard down.”

Though Buffalo’s offense racked up three touchdowns in the first half by way of Allen and RB1 James Cook, who ran for two and added a third receiving, the rest of the team’s points came on Ingram’s second interception of the day, a pick six in the third quarter.

The defense shined on the day, limiting Miami receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle to seven catches and 65 total yards, and Miami to only 1-for-4 in the red zone and 47% conversion on third down opportunities.

The effort was also underscored by coverage of who have held in consecutive contests to , and also by players who stepped up due to injuries.

Third year linebacker Baylon Spector took over for captain and defensive play caller Terrel Bernard, who who suffered a tear to a pectoral muscle on the ninth play of the Dolphins opening drive and is projected to be out for a month. Ingram is sharing playing time with Cam Lewis filling in for nickle Taron Johnson who was out with a forearm injury, and linebacker Dorian Williams was playing in place of starter Matt Milano, who is out with a bicep injury until at least December.

Spector got off to a bumpy start on misdirection in coverage that allowed a De’Von Achane touchdown catch, but he settled in to tie Williams and safety Damar Hamlin with a team-high 10 tackles.

“Baylon Spector knew the game plan, prepared like he was going to start, and the results are the results,” head coach Sean McDermott said. “The speed’s different, the processing of that is a little bit different, but really pleased with how Baylon handled it. And really he went in there and did his job. He kept the game simple, executed his assignments and you felt the kind of the repercussions of that. So it was good to watch, fun to see.”
