Amanda Nunes shocked the world when she knocked out Cris Cyborg to capture the featherweight title.
[autotag]Amanda Nunes[/autotag]’ resume in women’s mixed martial arts is unmatched.
After defending her UFC bantamweight title three times, including wins over former 135-pound champ Ronda Rousey and current UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko, Nunes attempted to move up in weight and take on the unstoppable [autotag]Cris Cyborg[/autotag].
Nunes (19-4 MMA, 12-1 UFC) faced then-UFC featherweight champion Cyborg at UFC 232, looking to join an elite few fighters to claim two titles simultaneously.
Cyborg immediately drew Nunes into a firefight, backing her against the fence and throwing heat in the pocket. But that cost Cyborg, as Nunes landed a perfectly-timed short counter right that stumbled her and spelled the beginning of the end. Nunes poured it on, putting the finishing touch with a big overhand right that flattened Cyborg.

Since then, Nunes has defended her 135-pound title two more times, adding two more former champions in Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie to her resume.
Nunes will defend her featherweight title for the first time when she faces Felicia Spencer this Saturday at UFC 250, looking to become the first fighter in UFC history to defend titles in two different weight classes while holding both belts simultaneously.
Before she faces Spencer, relive Nunes’ knockout over Cyborg in the video above.

Megan Anderson offers her analysis and prediction for the upcoming title fight at UFC 250.
[autotag]Megan Anderson[/autotag] will certainly have her eyes on the upcoming women’s featherweight championship fight at UFC 250.
Dual champion [autotag]Amanda Nunes[/autotag] will put her 145-pound title on the line for the first time against [autotag]Felicia Spencer[/autotag] on June 6 at the event expected to take place at UFC Apex in Las Vegas, pending approval from the Nevada Athletic Commission
Anderson shared the same card as Spencer in February, where both women emerged victorious with first-round finishes, but the promotion ultimately awarded the title shot to Spencer, who holds a win over Anderson.
Nunes most likely will be the betting favorite going into her fight with Spencer, with whom she shares a common opponent in Cris Cyborg. Though Spencer put a valiant effort against Cyborg, Anderson thinks Nunes will pose more of a threat.
“I see it being a little more difficult for Felicia than her fight against Cris Cyborg,” Anderson told MMA Junkie. “I think Amanda is a better well rounded striker, and she has a more dangerous ground game I would say. I wouldn’t say dangerous. Felicia is incredibly talented, and she has a lot of skills on the ground, but I just think Amanda brings that wrestling mentality. She goes for position over submission, she likes to do damage, and I think she’s very heavy on top. So that could pose some problems for Felicia.”

Spencer is a solid grappler herself, with her two most recent finishes coming on the ground. Anderson is familiar with Spencer’s ground game and thinks she’ll be game if the fight hits the mat, but Anderson sees Nunes being too stern of a test overall.
“Felicia is very, very – her pathway on the ground is very high level,” Anderson said. “She has a very good system, and she is very sneaky on the ground with her offensive submission game, so even if she does end up being on her back in a bad position, I see her being able to create space to throw up some submissions, which could cause Amanda some issues. But I think it’s going to be a lot harder for Felicia to take it to the ground, just because of how good Amanda’s range control and the power that she brings.
“Felicia was having some issues with Zarah, closing that gap against like a lengthier striker, so obviously I’m gonna give Amanda the slight advantage in skill and power over Zarah, so I just don’t see it working better in Felicia’s favor. I think she’s incredibly tough and has a lot of skills, and she’s an amazing athlete, but I think it’s a tough fight for her.”
The UFC appears to have settled on Amanda Nunes vs. Felicia Spencer as the main event for its next pay-per-view card.

That’s what the official poster for next month’s show seems to indicate, anyway.
The promotion recently revealed the poster for the June 6 card, and the women’s featherweight title fight between champion Nunes (19-4 MMA, 12-1 UFC) and challenger Spencer (8-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) is the lone fight featured.
It has a Brazil vs. Canada theme to it, too, with the flags of each fighter’s home country plastered across their faces.
As of now, UFC 250 does not have an official location or venue. It’s expected to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, but that’s pending Nevada Athletic Commission approval to resume combat sports in the state after the coronavirus pandemic forced a pause.
