Going into the 2020 football season, LonghornsWire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Texas roster.
Over the summer, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Tom Herman this season.
Today, we will be looking at redshirt sophomore wide receiver Al’Vonte Woodard.
Al’Vonte Woodard, Wide receiver
Height: 6-2 / Weight: 210
Class: Redshirt sophomore
Hometown: Houston, Texas
High School: Lamar
HS ranking (247Sports): Four-star / No. 197 overall / No. 30 position / No. 21 in-state
HS ranking (Rivals): Four-star / No. 92 overall / No. 17 position / No. 8 in-state
Analysis: Coming into his third season on campus, Woodard has yet to make a huge impact in the Texas offense. After not playing in 2018 due to a broken foot, the former four-star prospect took a redshirt season.
Woodard made his college football debut in the season opener against Louisiana Tech last season. The redshirt freshman only had three catches on the year, going for 28 yards.
Now going into his sophomore season, he is hoping to finally make an impact for the Longhorns. With the wide receiver position being wide open in 2020, Woodard could see playing time in this upcoming season. There will be players ahead of him on the depth chart but could become a role player for Mike Yurich.
