Allen Robinson may have turned a corner in the Rams offense Sunday

Allen Robinson had his best game as a Ram on Sunday, both as a receiver and a blocker

In his first five games with the Rams, Allen Robinson caught just 12 of his 23 targets for a total of 107 yards and a touchdown. He was nowhere near the playmaker the Rams thought he’d be, putting up more than 23 yards in just one game all year.

He didn’t light it up on Sunday against the Panthers, but he did have his best game as a member of the Rams. Despite only being targeted six times, Robinson caught five passes for 63 yards and a touchdown, setting season-highs in yards and catches.

It was the types of catches and plays that Robinson made, too.

This touchdown grab is the sort of play the Rams signed A-Rob to make. He’s a big receiver with a wide catch radius, something the Rams haven’t necessarily had at wideout in recent years. He’s able to elevate over the defender and make a twisting grab for six, giving Matthew Stafford plenty of room for error.

He made a similarly impressive catch later on along the sideline, contorting his body to come down with this one for a first down. Robinson wasn’t wide open, but Stafford showed trust in his receiver by throwing it up to him in a spot where only he could make a play.

Finally, on Ben Skowronek’s 17-yard touchdown run, Robinson did the dirty work that the Rams ask of their wide receivers. He helped seal off the edge by blocking two players, allowing Skowronek to run free to the end zone untouched.

It might seem like a benign play, but it’s one coaches will appreciate.

Was Sunday’s performance a sign of things to come for the Rams’ big free-agent signing? That’s the hope. And he now has an extra week to build on it during the bye. It’s clear Stafford trusted his receiver more than usual against the Panthers, even if it did only translate to six targets.

And Robinson showed more confidence in himself with those aggressive, contested catches at key moments. Hopefully he and Stafford can continue developing some chemistry, thus taking some pressure off of Cooper Kupp.

If Robinson can get going, the Rams offense might, too.

6 takeaways from Rams’ 24-10 win over Panthers

The Rams took care of business at home with a 24-10 win over the Panthers in Week 6 and here are our immediate takeaways.

The Los Angeles Rams were able to come away with a 24-10 win over the Carolina Panthers at home in Week 6. The Rams improve to 3-3 on the season after ending a two-game losing streak with consecutive losses to the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys.

It was a game that Los Angeles was expected to win as Carolina had an interim head coach, backup quarterback, and injuries to some notable players. Meanwhile, the Rams have dealt with countless injuries on both sides of the ball to begin the season.

After bouncing back in Week 6, here are our immediate takeaways from Sunday’s win over the Panthers.

Panthers LB Cory Littleton mocks Rams WR Allen Robinson for arguing with official

Panthers linebacker Cory Littleton decided that it would be fun to mock Rams receiver Allen Robinson for arguing with an official.

With 8:33 left in the third quarter of Sunday’s game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Carolina Panthers, Rams receiver Allen Robinson made an incredible sideline catch for a 15-yard gain on third-and-5 from the Los Angeles 47-yard line.

Panthers head coach Steve Wilks challenged the ruling that it was a catch, and that had Robinson arguing with an official as the replay review happened. Panthers linebacker Cory Littleton, who played for the Rams from 2016-2019, decided that it would be fun to mock Robinson as Robinson went through his argument.

The officials decided that Robinson’s catch was valid, but at least Littleton got his licks in as he was waiting for that ruling.

Watch: Allen Robinson makes incredible sideline catch in Week 6

Robinson made the impressive catch early in thee second-half of the Rams’ Week 6 matchup

Though he hasn’t lived up to the high expectations placed on him in 2022, Los Angeles Rams receiver Allen Robinson has made a huge impact on the team’s Week 6 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. His first-half touchdown constituted the Rams’ only points in the game to this point, and with another incredible catch to get Los Angeles moving in the third quarter, Robinson seems to be setting himself up for a breakout game.

Check out this exciting play that Robinson made early in the second half:

Nobody doubted that Robinson kept himself in bounds, and with this catch, he cemented himself as the Rams’ second-leading receiver. Los Angeles still has plenty of time to complete a comeback and is likely to need him to make more highlight reel plays like this one to get points on the board.

Robinson signed with the Rams in the offseason, and as a former Pro Bowl talent, was expected to be a perfect compliment to superstar Cooper Kupp on the other side of the field. He hasn’t shown to be the same threat he was earlier in his career, but with this exceptional performance, has shown more signs of life in the effort than he has in Los Angeles’ previous five matchups.

Liam Coen says Allen Robinson’s involvement in Rams offense is secondary to fixing issues on offensive line

Though Robinson’s slow start has marred the #Rams’ offensive output in 2022, it is largely a function of their floundering offensive line

Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Liam Coen is hard at work finding solutions to his unit’s inability to move the ball downfield. Over the last few weeks, the team has has a hard time rising above the below-average play of their patchwork offensive line, which has been plagued by injuries this season.

The involvement of receiver Allen Robinson, who was signed by the Rams in free agency ahead of the season in hopes that he might add an additional threat to the offense, has been a hot topic of late, and Coen was asked about his use of the former Pro Bowl pass catcher at his Thursday press conference. He effectively told the media that until issues with his front five are fixed, the utilization of Robinson’s talents will be a secondary consideration, as quarterback Matthew Stafford would have a hard time getting him the ball without a proper pocket to throw from.

“It’s hard to just say we’re going to get him the ball when we’re struggling to communicate to pass protect and to get all on the same page,” Coen said. “So when you can’t get the place started, it’s really difficult to say, ‘Oh well let’s make sure we get Allen five targets, or this guy this amount of targets.’ We’re just trying to function right now at a high level. We’re trying to get back to executing our offense the way it should be, efficiently, no communication issues. We’ve had more mental errors and busts that just are a little bit foreign to this offense and to this system.

“We have had a lot of guys play. That’s not an excuse, it’s a reality. So I think right now it’s a little bit less about players than it is the overall execution. It’s always about the guys going out and making plays, but we’re more so focusing on, how do we just function at a high level to get some confidence from our front five, the quarterback, and then let the ball just find these guys in a way that’s just, hey, we can execute our offense. It’s not about force feeding one guy or the other. We just need to function at a higher level right now and that’s our biggest focus.”

Though it might not have been the response that fans were hoping for, Coen was spot-on in his analysis of what it will take to get the veteran receiver more looks. In the game of football, oftentimes the quality of targets that a pass-catcher gets is more important than volume, and if Stafford can’t deliver accurate passes to Robinson, there would be no reason to press the issue.

Los Angeles’ current dysfunction on offense is almost entirely centered around the performance of their offensive line, and as such their play will need to be addressed before any other issues can be fixed. As the season wears on and the line steadies itself with more experience and starters returning from injury, look for the Rams to get Robinson more consistently involved in the game plan, and for him to maximize every opportunity he gets to compensate for his slow start to the 2022 campaign.

6 takeaways from Rams’ 22-10 loss to the Cowboys

The Rams lost to the Cowboys 22-10 in Week 6 and here are our 6 takeaways from the game.

The Los Angeles Rams hosted the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5 and the Cowboys came away with a 22-10 victory at SoFi Stadium. The Rams have now lost two games in a row to fall to 2-3 on the season following a 24-9 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4.

The Rams’ offense continues to struggle amid the offensive line injuries as they’ve scored 10 or fewer points in three out of their first five games. Meanwhile, the defense of the Cowboys has been a large reason why they’ve been able to win four straight games without Dak Prescott.

With the loss still fresh on everyone’s minds, here are six takeaways from Sunday’s disappointing loss for the Rams.

Watch: Matthew Stafford finds Allen Robinson on sweet completion

This sweet completion was one of the only bright spots of the # Rams’ first quarter against the #Cowboys in Week 5

Quarterback Matthew Stafford has been under constant pressure from the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive line in Week 5, but made a sweet completion on the Los Angeles Rams’ second offensive drive to keep the ball moving. He connected with first-year Ram Allen Robinson on what looked to be another one of his no-look passes while being tackled in the backfield for what would have been a sack.

Check out a video of the spectacular play below:

This play didn’t end up leading to points later in the drive but was impressive nonetheless. Working with a patchwork offensive line, Stafford has done his best to keep Los Angeles’ offense functioning, with this effort being a hallmark of his exceptional effort.

After fumbling on their first possession, which led to an early six-point deficit, Stafford and the offense have some work to do to get back in the game, but with plenty of time remaining, this game is far from over. A blocked punt after their drive stalled out following this play set Dallas up for a field goal that would extend the Cowboys’ lead to nine points, setting up the Rams’ offense to play with more urgency through the rest of the first half.

Rams need to get Allen Robinson more involved says Sean McVay

Allen Robinson has gotten off to a slow start this season and Sean McVay understands the Rams need to get him more involved in the offense.

It has been a quiet start to the year for Allen Robinson in his debut season with the Los Angeles Rams. With Robinson being nearly nonexistent in the offense for the first four weeks, Sean McVay realizes the Rams need to do a much better job at getting him involved in the offense.

“Yeah, like I mentioned, it’s just kind of been a struggle overall. There’s been a lot of different things. Being able to get receivers the ball is such a product of the offense as a whole. We’re at our best when everybody’s getting involved,” McVay said. “You look at the two games that we’ve been able to kind of stay on schedule, it’s been getting different guys involved. Obviously (WR) Cooper’s (Kupp) a huge part of it, but whether it be Allen or any of the other eligibles, those are things that we’re continuing to work towards. We’ve got a lot of work to do. We still have a lot of time, but we’ve got to be better for sure.”

Through the first four weeks of the season, the Pro Bowl wideout has caught only nine passes on 18 targets for 95 yards and one touchdown. Four receptions, 53 yards, and the touchdown came in Week 2 versus the Atlanta Falcons.

Matthew Stafford has refused to look in the direction of Robinson to begin the season, especially with the injuries to the offensive line. The veteran wide receiver has received the third-most targets on the team, however, he has 36 fewer targets than Cooper Kupp and 20 fewer targets than Tyler Higbee.

The Rams desperately need someone else to step up at the wide receiver position alongside Kupp with defenses keying in on slowing down the All-Pro wide receiver. McVay has mentioned doing a better job at getting Robinson more involved already this season, so now it’s about putting actions to words moving forward.

At first glance, either Robinson has lost a step at the wide receiver position or the Rams are doing a poor job at getting him involved in the aerial attack. It could be a mixture of both, but with Los Angeles handing the 29-year-old wideout a three-year, $45 million contract in the offseason, McVay and the offensive staff will need to get things figured out quickly.

6 takeaways from Rams’ 24-9 loss to the 49ers

The Rams fell to the 49ers in Week 4 on Monday Night Football and here are our immediate takeaways from the game.

The Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers are two divisional teams that simply don’t like each other. Despite the Rams defeating the 49ers in the NFC title game a season ago and proceeding to win the Super Bowl, San Francisco has dominated the matchup with Los Angeles since Sean McVay arrived in 2017.

Entering Monday’s showdown on primetime, the 49ers had won six consecutive regular-season meetings. San Francisco extended that streak to seven games after blowing out Los Angeles 24-9 at home in Week 4.

Immediately following the double-digit loss against the 49ers, here are six takeaways for the Rams.

6 takeaways from Rams’ 20-12 win over Cardinals

Here are 6 immediate takeaways from the Rams’ 20-12 win over the Cardinals

The Los Angeles Rams improved to 2-1 on the season following their win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3. With the win, the Rams are now in first place in the NFC West, though the San Francisco 49ers can match them at 2-1 with a win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday Night Football.

It was another game where the Rams seemingly seized control of the contest early on, securing a 13-0 lead in the second quarter. The defense would do a fantastic job limiting the offense of the Cardinals, preventing them from finding the end zone once in the team’s 20-12 road victory.

Here are six immediate takeaways from the Rams’ win against the Cardinals in Week 3.
