During Allen Robinson’s “A Night Within Reach” charity gala event, Bears WRs voted Anthony Miller most likely to be late to practice.

Remember back in high school when students would vote on superlatives, such as “most likely to succeed” or “most likely to become a pro athlete?” Well, the Chicago Bears wide receivers played a similar game on Monday evening and it wasn’t good for Anthony Miller.

During Bears wide receiver Allen Robinson’s “A Night Within Reach”, his charity gala event, he was joined by many of his fellow receivers. Miller, Javon Wims, Riley Ridley and Darnell Mooney were all in attendance, as well as practice squad members Rodney Adams and Reggie Davis.

The group was asked a number of fun questions, such as who has better hands than Robinson, what was everyone doing during quarantine, etc. But the first question began with who they thought would be the player most likely to be late for practice in a hypothetical situation. The guys unanimously voted for Miller.

Now, this was said in jest with everyone laughing, but considering Miller’s struggles dating back to last season, this anecdote may not sit well with some.

Miller, now in his third season after being drafted by the Bears in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, has been wildly inconsistent when on the field. He’s shown the potential to be a bondafide weapon, but has also disappeared for games, whether he’s had drops or hasn’t focused on the details enough. Monday’s joke may have unintentionally shed some light on his preparation and how his teammates view his approach.

Could this simply be nothing more than a friendly jab at a teammate? Absolutely. Robinson himself has gone out of his way to praise Miller, even just a few weeks ago and he was one of the first to pile on.

But as the old saying goes, there’s always a little truth being “just kidding.” Hopefully soon, however, Miller can be known as “most likely to be a game-changing wide receiver.”

Allen Robinson was a bit surprised the Bears turned to Nick Foles

When Matt Nagy made the decision to bench starting QB Mitchell Trubisky in favor of backup Nick Foles, it shocked even Allen Robinson.

When Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy made the decision to bench starting quarterback Mitchell Trubisky in favor of backup Nick Foles during yesterday’s 30-26 win against the Atlanta Falcons, many fans were caught off guard, considering Trubisky had played relatively well through the first two games.

It turns out his teammates didn’t necessarily see the move coming either.

Receiver Allen Robinson, speaking to Bears Wire ahead of his Within Reach Foundation’s “An Evening Within Reach” Gala taking place October 19, was asked if he was surprised Foles entered the game.

“Yeah, I kind of was,” Robinson said. “I wouldn’t say shocked, you never know what’s going to happen in the course of a game. We had training camp with both quarterbacks so we have experience with both of those guys and at the end of the day, coach did what he thought was best for the team.”

The Pro-Bowl wideout, who caught 10 passes for 123 yards and a score, also said he didn’t really have time to react to the switch.

“Everything happened so quickly,” Robinson said. “By the time Nick was put into the game, we had already gone over the plays and things like that so now it’s going out there and executing.”

Robinson did just that, catching four passes for 54 yards and a score all in the fourth quarter. He may have had some extra motivation thanks to his overturned touchdown in the third quarter.

On the Bears’ first possession with Foles in at quarterback, Robinson caught a touchdown on a fade route simultaneously with Atlanta Falcons defensive back Darqueze Dennard, with Dennard coming up with the ball on the ground. The initial ruling by the officials was a touchdown, but was quickly overturned after further review. Robinson said that call fueled him for the rest of the game.

“It did [light a fire in me],” he said. “For me, I always want to go out there and be as much of an impact to my team as possible. When you get plays like that called back, as frustrating as they may be. You know you have to bounce back and continue to make more plays to hopefully lead to a victory, which I was able to do.”

The Bears won’t be caught off guard moving forward now that Foles is officially the team’s starter. It should also mean more good outings for Robinson and his teammates, who look to continue their hot start against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

Tickets for Robinson’s “An Evening Within Reach” gala are now on sale and proceeds will benefit the Within Reach Foundation, whose mission is to provide educational resources to low-income and inner-city Chicago students. Visit www.allenrobinson12.org for more details.

Allen Robinson leading hunger relief campaign amid coronavirus pandemic

Bears WR Allen Robinson is providing meals to students in Chicago Public Schools through a hunger relief campaign amid coronavirus pandemic.

Chicago Bears receiver Allen Robinson embodies everything a football player should be. While he’s one of the best players on the Bears’ roster, he’s an even better person off the field.

The Bears’ Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee has stepped up following the coronavirus pandemic, where so many people have been affected, including students around the country. Robinson is helping those kids in Chicago that are missing out on meals they would receive during the school day.

Robinson is providing meals to students in Chicago Public Schools through a hunger relief campaign. Robinson said he would match $12,000 in donations to his Within Reach Foundation for this effort. For every $12 donation, a local family will receive a 20-pound box of food.

“I was trying to seek out a way that I could help,” Robinson told ChicagoBears.com. “Seeing how many kids are reliant on the food that is provided from the school system—whether it’s breakfast, lunch and sometimes after-school stuff—with them being out of school it’s tough for those kids to be able to get meals and it’s tough for some families to afford to feed a kid who’s at home all day.”

Robinson’s teammate Charles Leno Jr. has already pledged $7,200 towards the cause.

While Robinson initially pledged to match up to $12,000 in donations, that total was surpassed within the first 24 hours of the campaign. As a result, Robinson plans to increase his contribution.

“For me trying to be able to help the kids in the inner city of Chicago and seeing everybody step up to the plate alongside of me, it’s definitely bigtime and it’s definitely much appreciated,” Robinson said. “I get so much support from the city of Chicago, and it’s definitely awesome to see.”
