WATCH: When Allen Iverson crossed over Michael Jordan in his prime

Allen Iverson’s crossover on Michael Jordan in 1997 is one of the NBA’s most entertaining and iconic moments. Watch it here.

After lighting it up in Georgetown, Allen Iverson was the No. 1 overall pick in 1996. By the spring of 1997, it was clear he had that season’s Rookie of the Year award in the bag. And on March 12, the Answer met the GOAT for the first time in Philly.

As Iverson admitted during his Hall of Fame speech in 2016, Michael Jordan was the reason he first picked up a basketball. Meeting your childhood idol can be never-wracking – he’d be excused if he had been overly anxious.

That’s not really Bubba Chuck’s speed, however. Not only was Iverson going to rise to the occasion, but the rookie was going to own the moment. Here’s what AI said about the moment years later:

“…I heard Phil Jackson call [Jordan] out. He called him out on the switch. Come here, man. Now I’mma try my move on the best person that I’ve ever seen play the game. Now I’mma see if this move is real. And now I’m like, ‘Oh [expletive]’, and the craziest part is I didn’t know what I did until ESPN and ‘errbody else talking about it. I hit him with that thang.”

For his career, Michael Jordan was named to the NBA All-Defensive First-Team nine times, including in ’96, ’97, and ’98. This man played impossibly good defense. And Iverson cooked him all the same.

It’s one of those iconic moments that lives in the heart of every true NBA fan. In some ways, this was the moment AI really arrived on the NBA scene. And as Iverson tells it, Jordan still brings this moment up to this day.

Sixers legend Allen Iverson ranked 3rd most influential NBA player ever

Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson is ranked as the third most influential player in NBA history.

Being in the NBA as long as Allen Iverson was, one is bound to make an impact on the history of the game. Iverson was a ruthless scorer for the Philadelphia 76ers and he won an MVP award for them in 2001 while also leading the Sixers to the NBA finals in that same season.

While Iverson was impactful on the floor with his scoring and the swagger he played with, he also brought a lot to the league off the floor. Iverson is the reason then-commissioner David Stern implemented the dress code for players. The 6-foot guard from Georgetown would show up to the arena in baggy clothes and that is the impact he left on the game.

In a list performed by HoopsHype, Iverson was ranked as the third most influential player in NBA history behind Michael Jordan and LeBron James:

“Iverson’s cornrows, tattoos, and dress style brought the hip hop culture to the game of basketball,” one former NBA player and current assistant coach told HoopsHype. “You include his brilliant basketball career at 6-foot, 160 pounds, and you have to put him up there with the most influential players in the NBA.”

In 2005, former NBA commissioner David Stern implemented a dress code, which Iverson criticized.

“Iverson not only influenced fans, but he influenced other players who then influenced more fans,” one former NBA player told HoopsHype. “His influence had levels to it. It’s almost like he had soldiers influencing people for him. He’s the reason people wear sleeves, why they have tattoos, why they have braids. He was the conduit between basketball and hip hop.”

There is no question the impact Iverson left on the game and on the Sixers. Philadelphia has retired his jersey number at the Wells Fargo Center as nobody will ever wear the No. 3 ever again.

Allen Iverson posts picture honoring Sixers MVPs featuring Joel Embiid

Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson posts a picture of MVPs featuring Joel Embiid.

Philadelphia 76ers legendary guard Allen Iverson is always one to honor the great players in history. Whether the players of yesteryear or players of today, Iverson always acknowledges great players, especially for the Sixers.

During the All-Star game, a picture floated around of Iverson and Julius Erving sitting next to each other while taking in the game in Cleveland. Right in front of the two legends taking in the game was big man Joel Embiid, who was playing in the game representing the Sixers.

Iverson posted the picture to his Instagram on Thursday with the caption “3 MVPs”. Iverson won his MVP with the Sixers in 2001 while Erving won the award four times during his career. Embiid is a top candidate for the award this season. It sounds like Iverson believes the big fella should win the award.

Embiid is having a phenomenal season; the big man is averaging a league-leading 29.7 points and 11.2 rebounds. If he can continue to lead the league in scoring, he would be the first big man to do so since Shaquille O’Neal in 2000.

Sixers legend Allen Iverson ready for star James Harden’s home debut

Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson is ready for star James Harden to make his home debut.

The Philadelphia 76ers are set to have James Harden make his debut on Wednesday night against the New York Knicks after he played in two games on the road. The environment inside Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday should be a raucous one considering how passionate the fan base is.

If there is one person who understands how wild it can be in Philadelphia, it is legendary guard Allen Iverson. The Answer had a ton of big games in the City of Brotherly Love and he fed off the passion from the fan base and the energy that they gave him every night.

In anticipation of Harden’s home debut, Iverson tweeted a message to the star guard that he will love it in Philadelphia.

“Man, after seeing what The Garden was, I obviously expect it to be a crazy environment at Wells Fargo,” said Georges Niang. “I’m excited for that. I’m excited that James gets to experience that being on the court.”

The Sixers have won the first two games of the Harden era and they will be looking to continue their winning ways when they host the Knicks at 7:30 p.m. EST.

Allen Iverson just officially passed the torch to Ja Morant with this amazing tweet

Nobody shows love like Allen Iverson shows love.

There is not an NBA OG out there that shows more love to the current generation of players than Allen Iverson.

It feels like most retired NBA players spend their time throwing shade at the current iteration of the league whenever they can. Yes, we’re looking at you, Charles Oakley.

Iverson heaps praise upon the current stars of the league whenever he can and it’s always great to see. But he did a little bit more than that with Ja Morant after the Grizzlies’ guard had yet another career night against the Spurs on Monday.

Iverson legitimately just passed the torch to Morant with this tweet. He stamped him as an MVP “sooner or later” and put Morant’s jersey on his MVP trophy.

This is a moment, y’all.

Morant absolutely recognized what was happening here.

That’s so cool, man. NBA fans loved to see it.

Sixers legend Allen Iverson gives MVP love to Grizzlies star Ja Morant

Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson gives MVP love to Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant.

When it comes to the 2022 MVP race, Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is at the front of the pack considering the numbers he is putting up and the success the Sixers are having despite a lot of adversity they have had to face.

However, there are some other players who can make a case to win the award and one of them resides in Tennessee.

Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant had a historic performance on Monday as he went for a franchise-record 52 points to lead the Grizzlies to a win over the San Antonio Spurs. The 52 points broke his own previous Grizzlies record of 47 points.

After it was over, Sixers legend Allen Iverson gave some MVP love to Morant on Instagram. He posted a picture of the MVP trophy with Morant’s jersey draped on it.

Iverson is one to always give love and praise to today’s stars. Morant has been impressive all season long and the Philadelphia legend had to give credit where it’s due.

New Sixers star James Harden posts a picture with legend Allen Iverson

New Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden posed with Allen Iverson and posted the photo with the Hall of Famer.

The Philadelphia 76ers are well-represented by some of the best players to ever play: Allen Iverson, Julius Erving and Wilt Chamberlain, among others, have etched their names in the NBA history books.

A new addition to the Sixers, James Harden, was recently named a top-75 player in NBA history. As an elite scorer and playmaker, he is expected to make an impact on the Sixers as they move forward.

Another member of the 75th anniversary team, Iverson, was honored at halftime of the All-Star game on Sunday. Harden and Iverson posed for a photo that seemed to officially welcome Harden to Philadelphia.

As the Sixers move forward, Harden will have to get it together with Joel Embiid, but if he has Iverson in his ear, that will do wonders for him.

Sixers legend Allen Iverson in awe of Warriors star Stephen Curry

Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson was in awe of what Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry did at the All-Star game.

The 2022 NBA All-Star game is in the books as Team LeBron came away with a 163-160 win over Team Durant as LeBron James went back to Cleveland and knocked down a tough jumper to end it with the Elam Ending.

However, the MVP on the night went to Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry. The 2-time MVP went for 50 points–two shy of the record set by Anthony Davis in 2017–and he knocked down an All-Star game record 16 3-pointers.

Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson was courtside for the festivities and the Sixers legend was honored at halftime as a member of the 75th anniversary team. He took to Instagram as he was in awe of what Curry did on Sunday night.

While Curry put on a show, the Sixers were well-represented by Joel Embiid who had 36 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four assists for Team Durant.

As for Iverson, he continues to show his love and appreciation for the great players of today’s game. He has shown this type of appreciation to the stars of today in the past and he will likely continue to do so in the future.

A list of the top 10 3-point shooters in Philadelphia 76ers history

Here is a list of the top 10 3-point shooters in the storied history of the Philadelphia 76ers.

With the Saturday night festivities taking place in Cleveland at All-Star weekend, now is the time to look back at some of the best 3-point shooters in the storied history of the Philadelphia 76ers.

While the Sixers do not have a participant in the 3-point shootout on Saturday, they have had elite shooters pass through in the City of Brotherly Love. Kyle Korver, JJ Redick and Seth Curry are among those who have passed through and bombed away from deep for the franchise.

With the 3-point shootout set for Saturday, Sixers Wire has compiled a list of the top 10 3-point shooters in the history of the Sixers. Two members of the list are still active and are noted with an asterisk since they can, obviously, still move up.

The top 10 leaders in 3-pointers made in Sixers history per basketball-reference:
