Jayson Tatum on meeting Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird

“He’s a lot taller than I thought he was,” said Tatum.

You would think that the best player to suit up for the Boston Celtics in modern history would have met the player most likely to overtake his many records. But the NBA’s 2024 All-Star Game turned out to be the first-ever meeting between Boston icon Larry Bird and All-NBA Celtics forward Jayson Tatum.

“I got a chance to go meet him and tell him how much of an honor it was to meet him,” said Tatum via The Athletic’s Jared Weiss. “He told me he was looking forward to meeting me. So that was crazy to hear him say that.”

“He’s a lot taller than I thought he was,” added the St. Louis native, who is no short man himself at 6-foot-8 officially.

“But obviously what he means to the game, what he means to the city of Boston and the Celtics, he’s the ultimate Celtic,” said Tatum of meeting Larry Legend.

And certainly not a bad role model if you happen to start breaking his records before you even hit your prime.

Boston’s Jaylen Brown 2024 NBA Slam Dunk Contest highlights

Brown’s dunks were solid, and helped breathe new life into a sometimes stale event.

Star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown was one of the only stars in several years to take part in the NBA’s 2024 Slam Dunk Contest in this tear’s All-Star Week proceedings, and just the fifth active Celtics player ever to take part in it. There were some justifiable grumbles about how the event was scored in some corners, but Brown’s dunks were solid, and helped breathe new life into a sometimes stale event.

The Georgia native paid homage to another No. 7-wearing Brown at the Dunk Contest in Dee, as well as former Boston forward Dominique Wilkins, before finishing off his dunk triumvirate with a tribute to fallen friend and teammate Terrence Clarke that struck a chord with fans.

The folks at CLNS Media put together a compilation of his best efforts from the event.

A three-point plan to save the NBA’s All-Star Week

It’s not like it could get that much worse…right?

There may be no way to fully salvage the NBA’s annual All-Star Game. The league elected to get rid of several tweaks created to make the annual exhibition game more competitive by making it like a regular NBA game, only to see the tilt become almost unwatchable.

The same can be said for the events leading up to it. But we decided to throw out a few of our own half-baked ideas that could spice up the event we all love to complain about around the season’s two-thirds mark. They could also play the same way the NBA’s changes for this All-Star Game went (read: bad), but we figured we’d put them out into the ether just the same.

It’s not like it could get that much worse…right? So let’s take a look at each of our three ideas, then.

Looking back on the Boston Celtics in the NBA’s 2024 All-Star Game

What needs to happen for us to keep tuning in?

What do we think of the NBA’s 2024 All-Star Game, the All-Star Week of events before it, and how the Boston Celtics participating in both did? On one hand, there were new wrinkles that were very clearly a hit, like the additional 3-point shootout between Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry and New York Liberty legend Sabrina Ionescu.

On the other hand, the decision to go back to old-style formats that eschewed the target score ending, charitable donations per quarter, and playground-style team picking did not have the desired effect of bringing back some competitive fire to the big game. Is the NBA’s All-Star Game irretrievably broken? Are there still things that could save it?

Most of all, what needs to happen for us to keep tuning in?

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Garden Report” podcast linked up with Cameron Tabatabaie of Celtics Wire and the “Celtics Lab” podcast to talk us through the 2024 All-Star Game and how Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown did in it.

PHOTOS: Best moments from Celtics’ Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown in the NBA’s 2024 All-Star Game

Let’s take a look at the best of Brown and Tatum in the 2024 All-Star Game captured in images.

While there were certainly no shortage of things for people to complain about in the NBA’s 2024 All-Star Week and All-Star Game, the annual exhibition tilt and the contests going on around it were their usual controversial self.

People had complaints about the level of effort in the week’s main event as they usually do, and there were cool new wrinkles (Steph vs. Sabrina, for one) as they usually are. The changes made (and unmade) are a story unto themselves, but star Boston Celtics forwards Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum shone brightly in another of their several appearances in All-Star Week.

Let’s take a look at the best of Brown and Tatum in the 2024 All-Star Game captured in images.

Celtics Lab 241: Breaking down the good, bad, and irretrievably broken of All-Star Week with Clemente Almanza

What were the good, bad, and irretrievably broken aspects of the week-long event?

The NBA’s 2024 All-Star Game has come and gone, and with it the successes of the Boston Celtics who participated. The week of All-Star festivities saw some significant changes, but perhaps none more so than the actual All-Star Game itself.

Gone were the target score endings and charities for each quarter of the event, along with the East vs. West dissolving playground-style team choosing. The ostensible goal — stronger player efforts on both ends of the court — was decidedly not reached with a record-breaking offensive output. But it wasn’t all bad — what were the good, bad, and irretrievably broken aspects of the week-long event?

To talk through the state of All-Star Week, how the Celtics did in it, what needs to change and what was done right, the hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast linked up with Thunder Wire editor Clemente Almanza.

We also touch on the post-deadline order of the West, where OKC sits in it and who will come out of it in the 2024 NBA Playoffs, so buckle up for a bumpy ride into what All-Star was and can be.

Here’s a look at some of the best photos from Steph Curry’s appearance in the 2024 NBA All-Star Game in Indiana.

For the 10th time in his already historic career, Steph Curry suited up as a member of the NBA’s All-Star Game. Coming off the bench for the first time in his All-Star career, Curry represented the Golden State Warriors on the Western Conference Team.

Curry tallied 16 points on 6-of-17 shooting from the field with eight assists and five rebounds in 26 minutes. The Warriors sharpshooter buried four 3-pointers from long distance in the Eastern Conference’s dominant win over the West, 211-186.

Jayson Tatum, Boston Celtics are the talk of the town at All-Star weekend

You may have noticed that there has been a lot of Boston Celtics-inflected stuff going on at the 2024 NBA All-Star Week’s proceedings.

You may have noticed that there has been a lot of Boston Celtics-inflected stuff going on at the 2024 NBA All-Star Week’s proceedings. That is largely due to the fact that the Celtics happen to be owners of the best record in the league and are favorites to win it all this summer.

For that to happen, they do of course have to play the games, but from the 2024 NBA Dunk Contest to the All-Star Game itself, Celtics players like Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown were ubiquitous. To talk it over, NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg linked up with former Celtics champion center Kendrick Perkins.

Perk and Forsberg get into all things Celtics and All-Star, the state of the MVP race (and where Tatum is in it), the impact of Kristaps Porzingis and more.

Celtics’ Jayson Tatum on the 2024 NBA All-Star Game, MVP race and more

Playing for the best team in the Association has its perks in the hunt for banners, but it can have a deleterious effect on individual accolades.

Star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum took some time to speak with the media ahead of the NBA’s 2024 All-Star Game, and spoke on the league’s race for the 2024 Most Valuable Player award and his place in it. Playing for the best team in the Association has its perks in the hunt for banners, but it can have a deleterious effect on individual accolades at times.

The St. Louis, Missouri native spoke about that dynamic, as well as his efforts with SoFi to help create affordable housing in his hometown. As well as the early success he sees for his fellow Duke alum Paolo Banchero as the former Blue Devil starts to spread his wings at the NBA level.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what Tatum had to say at the 2024 NBA All-Star Game.

Warriors’ Steph Curry scores 16 points off bench in NBA All-Star Game

The Golden State Warriors point guard dropped 16 points in his 10th appearance in the NBA All-Star Game.

After knocking off Sabrina Ionescu in the first NBA vs. WNBA 3-point competition on Saturday night in Indiana, Steph Curry suited up for his 10th appearance in the NBA All-Star game.

Curry came off the bench for the first time in the All-Star game, scoring 16 points on 6-of-17 shooting from the field with eight assists and five rebounds in 26 minutes.

The Warriors’ veteran point guard showed a wide variety of skills on Sunday night, including multiple triples and smooth handling. Curry drilled four 3-pointers. Curry also nearly put away a lob from Minnesota’s Karl-Anthony Towns.

Via @warriors on X:

Despite Curry’s 16 points off the bench, the Western Conference All-Star got blown out by the Eastern Conference 211-186. Damian Lillard was named All-Star game MVP for the second consecutive season, scoring 39 points with 11 made 3-pointers. Towns led all scorers with 50 points on 23-of-35 shooting from the field.
