Raiders Week 7 snap counts vs Rams: Who filled in at receiver with Jakobi Meyers OUT

With Davante Adams traded away and Jakobi Meyers again out with injury, the Raiders had to cobble together a wide receiver corps vs the Rams

It is becoming increasingly obvious with each game the lack of star power on this Raiders team. Obviously it starts at quarterback where it clearly hasn’t mattered whether it’s Aidan O’Connell or Gardner Minshew behind center. But it extends well beyond that.

Several of the team’s biggest stars heading into this season were not on the field or not on the roster for Sunday’s game in Los Angeles. Including Davante Adams who was traded to the Jets and Christian Wilkins who is on injured reserve.

At receiver in particular, they were also without start Jakobi Meyers who has an ankle injury.

Leading the way in snaps for the Raiders were Tre Tucker and DJ Turner, both of whom plaed 75 snaps (95%). That takes care of one outside receiver spot (Tucker) and the slot (Turner).

For the other receiver spot, the duties were split between recent practice squad players Alex Bachman and Kristian Wilkerson; neither of whom got a single target. So, yeah, not really what you want.

It was a four-man rotation at defensive tackle of Adam Butler, John Jenkins, Jonah Laulu, and Matthew Butler.

Raiders make 3 roster moves ahead of Week 7 vs Rams

Raiders’ moves on Saturday were centered around filling their thin receiver corps.

The Raiders are quite thin at wide receiver at the moment. They traded away Davante Adams and are likely to be without Jakobi Meyers as well as he is officially Doubtful for the game with an ankle injury.

To help fill out the roster, they have signed WR Alex Bachman from the practice squad and activated WR Kristian Wilkerson as well and TE Justin Shorter from the practice squad as well.

Bachman had been activated from the practice squad the past three weeks. Last week against the Steelers he caught three passes for 31 yards.

Wilkerson was activated last week for the first time this season and had two catches for 18 yards and a touchdown. He was with the Raiders last season, appearing in two games with one start.

Shorter was a 2023 fifth round pick by the Bills, but got injured and spent his rookie season on injured reserve. He was among the final roster cuts last August and was signed to the Raiders practice squad.

Raiders make 4 roster moves ahead of Week 5 vs Broncos

Among several roster moves for the Raiders, they signed former first round pick K’Lavon Chaisson to the active roster from the practice squad.

It didn’t take long for K’Lavon Chaisson to get the call up from the practice squad to the active roster. Two weeks ago the team signed the former first round pick to the practice squad due to the injury to Tyree Wilson. Then last week against the Browns, he was activated due in part to the ankle injury to Maxx Crosby that caused Crosby to miss the game. Now they’ve made it official.

With the team sending LB Luke Masterson to the injured reserve, the Raiders have signed Chaisson to the active roster just ahead of facing the rival Broncos in Denver.

Crosby is Questionable for the game, so Chaisson’s addition could be to once again add much needed depth at the position.

Chaissaon played 41 snaps (69%) last week in his debut with the Raiders, collecting four combined tackles in that time.

In addition, the Raiders elevated RB Sincer McCormick and WR Alex Bachman from the practice squad.

Raiders make several roster moves ahead of Week 4 matchup with Browns

Raiders did some work to add depth to the roster when they face the Browns Sunday.

Due to a string of injuries at various positions for the Raiders, they shuffled around some players ahead of their game against the Browns on Sunday.

First, they signed John Samuel Shenker from the practice squad. Shenker spent the past two offseasons with the Raiders. His addition was to add depth with Michael Mayer not playing due to personal reasons.

In a corresponding move, the Raiders waived wide receiver Ramel Keyton who impressed in camp and preseason as an undrafted rookie out of Tennessee.

Since they still need depth at receiver due to Davante Adams not playing, they activated Alex Bachman from the practice squad. Bachman had been added to the offseason roster late in training camp.

Also getting a call up from the practice squad was DE K’Lavon Chaisson. He was signed to the practice squad a couple weeks ago in light of the season-ending injury to Malcolm Koonce. Now with Maxx Crosby expected to miss Sunday’s game with an ankle injury, the former first rounder gets the call up.

Ex-Giant recalls stunned reaction to Joe Judge’s back-to-back QB sneak calls

A former New York Giants wide receiver recalls his on-field reaction to Joe Judge’s consecutive QB sneaks calls: “Thought I was concussed.”

In the final week of the 2021 regular season, the New York Giants closed out an ugly campaign with a 22-7 loss to the Washington Commanders.

That game was the last for head coach Joe Judge, who was fired shortly thereafter.

The final nail in the coffin likely came during the second quarter when, trailing 3-0, Judge called back-to-back quarterback sneaks from inside the five-yard line.

“I wasn’t going to live through what happened last week in Chicago,” Judge told reporters after the game, referring to a Week 17 safety. “We’re going to give ourselves room for the punt. We did that. We played the field-position situation I wanted to play.”

The calls were widely panned on social media and rightfully so. It was an embarrassing moment for one of the NFL’s great franchises and it left a stain that lingers to this day.

Earlier this week, former Giants wideout Alex Bachman recalled receiving word of the second consecutive sneak while in the huddle.

“I thought I was concussed when I heard this play call in the huddle,” Bachman wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “I came off on the sideline looking around. I thought for sure I was trippin.”

Earlier in the game, the Giants also called an end-around for Bachman but left the defensive end unblocked, allowing for an easy tackle three yards behind the line of scrimmage.

“With no one covering their DE rushing straight up the field,” Bachman wrote. “I got an apology on the sideline for that one.”

What an ugly time in Giants history.

Raiders sign former Giants WR Alex Bachman

Raiders sign former Giants WR Alex Bachman

The Raiders have added to their wide receiver room and special teams, signing former Giants and Texans receiver Alex Bachman.

The 6-0, 190-pounder spent last season on the Texans practice squad. Prior to that he spent three seasons in New York, appearing in four games with no starts.

Bachman entered the league as an undrafted free agent, first signing with the Rams in 2019. He was waived prior to the seasons and joined the Giants’ practice squad late in the season. He has never been signed on to an active roster, with his four appearance all being practice squad elevations. He has a total of 31 offensive snaps, with no catches, and 25 special teams snaps.

The Wake Forest alum put up 1162 yards and 10 touchdowns over four seasons with the Demon Deacons.

No corresponding move was announced.

Texans sign CB Cameron Dantzler, drop WR Alex Bachman

The Houston Texans signed cornerback Cameron Dantzler and waive-injured receiver Alex Bachman.

The Houston Texans provided more depth for their secondary.

The club announced they signed former Minnesota Vikings, Washington, and Buffalo Bills cornerback Cameron Dantzler.

The former 2020 third-round pick was claimed by Washington off waivers in mid-March. Dantzler spent the month with the NFC East franchise until May 30 when he was released. The Bills signed Dantzler to a one-year contract, but released the former Mississippi State product with an injury settlement early in training camp in late July.

Danztler played 35 games for the Vikings, starting in 26 of them, and collected 149 combined tackles, six tackles for loss, three interceptions, 17 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

As a corresponding move, the Texans waive-injured receiver Alex Bachman. The former Wake Forest wideout caught two passes for 11 yards and a touchdown on six targets as part of his 21 offensive snaps through two preseason games. The Texans also utilized Bachman for 12 special teams reps.

Giants sign Vernon Butler, Devery Hamilton to practice squad

The New York Giants have signed veteran DT Vernon Butler to their practice squad, while several ex-Giants have new homes.

The New York Giants continued tweaking their roster on Tuesday, making several practice squad moves.

Offensive lineman Devery Hamilton had his contract officially terminated, but he will remain in East Rutherford. He is expected to sign back to the team’s practice squad on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Giants have also signed veteran defensive tackle Vernon Butler to their practice squad.

Butler, a first-round pick of the Carolina Panthers in the 2016 NFL draft, provides additional depth along the interior defensive line. Dexter Lawrence and Leonard Williams have been taking the bulk of the snaps and head coach Brian Daboll would like to work them into more of a rotation to keep them healthy.

In addition to his time with the Panthers, Butler has also had stints with the Buffalo Bills and Las Vegas Raiders. He’s appeared in 76 career games (19 starts) and recorded 106 tackles (15 for a loss), 21 QB hits, 8.0 sacks, four forced fumbles and three passes defensed.

Meanwhile, defensive back Justin Layne, who was waived earlier this week, has been claimed by the Chicago Bears.

Finally, former Giants wide receiver Alex Bachman, who led the NFL with 19 preseason receptions, has signed with the Houston Texans.

Texans made a flurry of practice squad transactions on Tuesday

The #Texans made a series of transactions with their practice squad on Tuesday that could have implications in the future

The Houston Texans parted ways with an up-and-coming player on their practice squad on Tuesday afternoon, releasing rookie receiver Michael Young. The move comes after the team claimed running back Eno Benjamin off waivers earlier in the day.

In addition to Benjamin, who will be placed on the team’s 53-man roster following the team’s decision to claim him, Houston signed two players to their practice squad, receiver Alex Bachman and defensive back Will Redmond.

Bachman played his college ball at Wake Forest and is in his second season as a professional after entering the league as an undrafted free agent. He spent time with the Los Angeles Rams and New York Giants in recent seasons before eventually finding his way to Houston on Tuesday.

Redmond, on the other hand, was once a highly touted prospect in the 2016 draft and came into the NFL as a third-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers by way of Mississippi State. Following his release from the 49ers in 2017, he bounced around from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Green Bay Packers before eventually settling at his last stop with the Indianapolis Colts.

As practice squad prospects, both players will need to fight for their chance to get elevated to the Texans’ active roster and see meaningful time on the field this season. For now, the limited action they’ll see in helping Houston prepare for their opponents will serve as an extended tryout of sorts to give Lovie Smith and his crew of coaches a chance to evaluate what they might bring to their football team.

No opportunity should be taken lightly for Bachman or Redmond, though, as the winds of change are in the air in Houston as a rebuild in 2023 may provide them the necessary occasion to become role players in what promises to be a new-look Texans squad. If they can make the right impression through the end of the season, both players could find themselves with steady work ahead of next year’s opening kickoff.
