Blue Jays pitcher Alek Manoah very calmly called out Gerrit Cole for getting mad at him

Alek Manoah had a message for Gerrit Cole after Sunday’s little dustup in the Bronx.

The Blue Jays and Yankees had another battle in the Bronx on Sunday that got a little heated and led to the benches clearing before the two guys involved – Blue Jays pitcher Alek Manoah and Yankees star Aaron Judge – calmed things down.

Manoah hit Judge with a sinker in the fifth inning. Judge had some words for Manoah, which prompted Yankees ace Gerrit Cole to come out of the dugout and have words for Manoah as well.

Nothing crazy happened after that but it was a little weird to see Cole come firing out of the dugout and being so angry at Manoah.

After the game Manoah said he’d have no problem settling things with Cole if the Yankees pitcher wanted to escalate the situation:

The Audi signs are locate between the dugouts and the first and third base paths:

Aaron Judge and Alek Manoah defused the situation after the Yankees were upset with hit by pitch

That’s leadership.

The New York Yankees have been playing some of the worst baseball in the league since the All-Star break, so frustrations have understandably reached a tipping point in the Bronx.

But the last thing the Yankees need right now is a blench-clearing incident and possible suspensions. Aaron Judge made sure to make that clear to his teammates on Sunday.

During the fifth inning of the Yankees’ game against the Blue Jays, Judge took a first-pitch sinker from Alek Manoah right to the elbow guard. Initially, Judge wasn’t too pleased with the pitch (I mean, who likes getting plunked?). So as Judge was having words with Manoah, Gerrit Cole emerged from the dugout to shout at the Blue Jays All-Star.

At that point, the situation could have escalated out of control. But then something great happened: Judge and Manoah met on the field, chatted and calmed everyone down.

And while a first-pitch plunking to a star player always looks suspicious — particularly with first base open — the slow-motion replay seemed to show Manoah upset with himself as the ball left his hand. It wasn’t intentional in a one-run game, and that was likely what Manoah tried to get across in that show of respect between the two players.

As wild as a Judge vs. Manoah brawl would have been, MLB fans appreciated how the two players were able to deescalate the situation. Freddie Freeman had a similar approach last season.

Blue Jays pitcher Alek Manoah talked so much trash to the Red Sox after strikeouts

He was FIRED UP.

Blue Jays pitcher Alek Manoah is one of the more lively personalities in baseball. That personality was on display at the All-Star Game, especially when Manoah was mic’d up on the mound. It was great.

But that was just an exhibition game. Actual competition gets Manoah really fired up, and the Boston Red Sox almost seemed to be caught off guard by it all.

During Saturday’s game between the Blue Jays and Red Sox at Fenway Park, Manoah gave up a second-inning home run and fourth-inning single to Bobby Dalbec. That was on Manoah’s mind when Dalbec stepped to the plate in the sixth inning with two outs.

Manoah caught Dalbec looking on a 95 mph fastball to end the inning, and the Blue Jays pitcher could be seen shouting at Dalbec to, uh, take a seat.

It wasn’t just to Dalbec either. Manoah also had words for Franchy Cordero after a strikeout, who stared back at the Blue Jays pitcher.

After the game, Manoah joked that the exchange was about BioSteel and Gatorade because of course he did. Via The Athletic:

“I think I had said, ‘Let’s go get some BioSteel.’ And he was like, ‘Nah, man, you need to go get some Gatorade.’ And I was like, ‘No, you need to go sit down, I’m going to go get some BioSteel.’”

As expected, MLB fans had plenty of thoughts about Manoah’s exchanges with the Red Sox.

Fans couldn’t get enough of Toronto’s Alek Manoah mic’d up while pitching in the MLB All-Star Game

“Three punchies! Let’s go!!!”

Alek Manoah was without a doubt the most charming person at the 2022 MLB All-Star Game.

In the bottom of the second, Manoah of the Toronto Blue Jays took to the mound for the American League while mic’d up for Fox Sports. We’ve gotten some real good mic’d up moments in sports over the years, but Manoah absolutely takes the crown for the pure charisma on display while pitching.

During his one inning of work, Manoah was absolutely pumped on the mound, throwing out zingers like “by you!” and “don’t flinch!” as he struck out the side, leaving one man on base.

Not only that, Manoah even took a pitching request from John Smoltz in the booth while on the mound!

After his one inning, Manoah told reporters that his chatter on the mound usually doesn’t get a response from someone on the other end.

Baseball fans absolutely adored Manoah’s mic’d up session with Fox Sports.
