Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes reacts to Royals’ loss to Yankees in ALDS

Check out what #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes had to say to the #Royals after their loss to the #Yankees in the ALDS.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is invested in the world of local sports, and as a minority owner of the Royals, the two-time MVP is one of their biggest fans.

The Royals’ miraculous season came to an end Thursday night when they lost 3-1 to the New York Yankees in Game 4 of the ALDS.

After a 106-loss season in 2023, many fans in Kansas City had low hopes for the Boys in Blue but, with the help of a greatly-improved pitching staff and star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., the Royals made the playoffs for the first time since 2015.

After sweeping the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Wild Card Series, Kansas City’s season was cut short by the powerhouse Yankees.

The unfortunate ending didn’t stop Mahomes from congratulating the Royals on Twitter for an incredible season:

As the Royals head into their offseason, Mahomes will have plenty of time to prepare for the San Francisco 49ers as the Chiefs look to keep their undefeated streak alive in Week 7.

Bob Costas completely botched a routine baseball call during Game 3 of Yankees-Royals

Uhhh…

Legendary sportscaster Bob Costas didn’t quite rise to the occasion on Wednesday night as he was on the TBS call for Game 3 of the 2024 ALDS between the New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals.

On a hit from Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino, Costas got unusually excited on his call since he thought it was going to be a big play for Kansas City.

Well, the Royals hit went for a pretty automatic catch-and-out for the Yankees, which made Costas’ lively commentary for such a routine baseball play come across as very jarring and out of place.

We’re not sure what Costas thought he saw here, but it was the wrong call and the wrong emotion for such a mundane moment in an otherwise nail-biting game.

Costas is still awesome, but he’d probably like to have this call back.

TBS malfunctioned for the start of Tigers-Guardians Game 2 and MLB fans couldn’t believe it

Where’s the game?!

Imagine being a fan of the Detroit Tigers and waiting 10 years to see your team make it back to the postseason just to tune in for the start of Game 2 of the ALDS and see static on the screen.

That was the experience for fans late Monday afternoon, as the Tigers at Cleveland Guardians game got underway but the TBS broadcast didn’t. Major League Baseball at least live-streamed the top of the first inning on X (formerly Twitter) while TBS got its act together, but not before fans swarmed social media to confirm it was the broadcast and not a personal problem.

And once confirmed, the reaction was a mix of disappointment and jokes.

Rangers fans embraced team’s Creed MLB Playoffs soundtrack by singing along to “Higher”

The Rangers are taking fans higher with an MLB Playoffs Creed sing-a-long.

The Texas Rangers have embraced Creed during this MLB Playoffs, and the fans are getting in on the grungy fun.

After the Rangers used Creed music to loosen up ahead of the ALDS series with the Baltimore Orioles, the team invited fans to sing along to the 1990s/2000s rock band’s hit “Higher” as the Rangers returned home to Globe Life Field for Game 3 of the series.

The Creed vibes have clearly worked, as the Rangers led the Orioles by the sixth inning on the way to a possible 3-0 series lead.

Rangers fans are clearly in on Creed, as this is a great reminder of how electric playoff baseball environments can be when your team is playing well. [anyclip-media thumbnail=”undefined” playlistId=”undefined” content=”dW5kZWZpbmVk”][/anyclip-media]

Creed has fully embraced the moment as the Rangers use their music to fuel playoff success.

If you’re the Orioles, well, it’s your sacrifice to endure this during what has been a disastrous playoffs so far.

If Creed really can take the Rangers higher to a World Series victory, we’re betting the band will get played at Texas games for years to come.

Randy Arozarena’s steal of home was even cooler from up close

This angle is amazing.

There’s so much to love about baseball.

[Places fedora upon head.]

It’s the thinking person’s game. Strategy is everything! But also skill! Nothing is harder than hitting a baseball, except perhaps throwing one in such a way that nobody can hit it.

Can’t you smell the fresh-cut grass? The Cracker Jacks? The sticky stale absurdly expensive beer that some guy spilled in the 3rd–

[Removes fedora quickly.]

Sorry about that. Wait, do they still make Cracker Jacks?

Anyway, baseball’s great. It’s just that, compared to the free-flowing sports, displays of dramatic, world-class athleticism are relatively scattered.

Which makes Rays rookie Randy Arozarena’s daring steal of home in an ALDS game against Boston all the more thrilling, especially from this angle:

My favorite part of this video is that you can see the quarter-second of hesitation in Brandon Lowe when he thinks, “Wait, uhh, is Randy running at me? He is, right? Yes, yes, he’s trying to steal home, better step out.”

Honestly I just want to watch every angle of this, over and over.

According to Rays manager Kevin Cash, Arozarena had been begging to steal home for a while now, pleading by saying, “Verde, verde, verde.” Basically: Green light?

Thankfully he got it, scoring the final run in a 5-0 Game 1 victory. Arozarena became the first player ever to steal home and homer in a playoff game.
