Which Creed song best represents your Big Ten football program?

Which Creed song best represents your Big Ten football team? #B1G

One of the greatest rock bands of the 90s and early 2000s has just announced their return, and before everyone gets their tickets for Creed, I thought we would do something fun here.

The Texas Rangers have just won the World Series and it has been well publicized that the main motivation for their historic run was due to the sweet and smooth vocals of Scott Stapp, and more specifically, the official anthem of 1999, Creed’s hit song, “Higher.”

The Rangers aren’t the only team to take advantage of the spiritual cheat code that is Creed. The Minnesota Vikings also utilized a gem from the “Human Clay” album in, “With Arms Wide Open,” as quarterback Kirk Cousins mentioned this song as the main reason for their victory over the Chicago Bears.

I want to find the best Creed song for every Big Ten team and with such a large, diverse, and just straight up historic catalog, it should be easy. Let’s have a little fun, shall we?

The Rangers delightfully sang along to Creed anthem “Higher” to celebrate World Series victory

The Rangers singing “Higher” by Creed after winning the World Series is everything.

After the Texas Rangers adopted the Creed song “Higher” as their season anthem, the team fulfilled the lyrics in that famous rock ballad after winning the World Series on Wednesday night.

After the team took down the Arizona Diamondbacks to win the franchise’s first-ever World Series title, the Rangers decided to belt out “Higher” with each other in the locker room as they doused each other in beer to celebrate.

It was as spirited a post-World Series victory sing-a-long as you could imagine for the Rangers, completing the Creed-fueled playoff run of a lifetime. They, indeed, took their team higher.

We’re curious if any other teams will embrace Creed next MLB postseason, or if another nostalgic rock band will take the spotlight.

For now, we’ll blast “Higher” while we’re riding in the car this week in honor of the Rangers and the song that helped inspire a World Series victory.

The Texas Rangers’ obsession with Creed’s music, explained

The Texas Rangers are giving some credit to Creed for their success.

Welcome to FTW Explains, a guide to catching up on and better understanding stuff going on in the world. Have you heard about how the Texas Rangers use the music of the band Creed a lot and how it’s actually helped them? And you’re confused? We’re here to help.

Yep, that’s right. We’re talking about Creed here, the band that has some serious hits but is sometimes a punchline.

And now, the Texas Rangers are headed to the World Series and are giving some credit to Creed for their success.

If you’re wondering why, we have answers! Let’s dive in to this whole thing:

Kirk Cousins delightfully confirmed he’s a Creed fan as Vikings embraced band’s song “Higher” after 49ers win

Creed fever is spreading with Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings.

The Minnesota Vikings are the second major sports team this fall to embrace the music of Creed to help fuel success.

As the Vikings have won three of their last four games, things are looking much brighter for Minnesota fans as the idea of them being a seller at the trade deadline looks even less likely after an 0-3 start.

Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins seems to have embraced the moment, particularly how the team was blaring the Creed song “Higher” in the locker room after its Monday Night Football win over the San Francisco 49ers.

Of course, Cousins wasn’t just going to talk about the team’s Creed celebration without throwing some love on the rest of the band’s catalog.

Hey, good for Cousins for mentioning the other good Creed songs. While “Higher” is the main one, the band also has bangers like “My Sacrifice,” “One Last Breath” and “With Arms Wide Open,” too.

As the Texas Rangers have used Creed to fuel their World Series run, now it’s the Vikings that are using the rock band to keep the good vibes going.

Rangers fans embraced team’s Creed MLB Playoffs soundtrack by singing along to “Higher”

The Rangers are taking fans higher with an MLB Playoffs Creed sing-a-long.

The Texas Rangers have embraced Creed during this MLB Playoffs, and the fans are getting in on the grungy fun.

After the Rangers used Creed music to loosen up ahead of the ALDS series with the Baltimore Orioles, the team invited fans to sing along to the 1990s/2000s rock band’s hit “Higher” as the Rangers returned home to Globe Life Field for Game 3 of the series.

The Creed vibes have clearly worked, as the Rangers led the Orioles by the sixth inning on the way to a possible 3-0 series lead.

Rangers fans are clearly in on Creed, as this is a great reminder of how electric playoff baseball environments can be when your team is playing well. [anyclip-media thumbnail=”undefined” playlistId=”undefined” content=”dW5kZWZpbmVk”][/anyclip-media]

Creed has fully embraced the moment as the Rangers use their music to fuel playoff success.

If you’re the Orioles, well, it’s your sacrifice to endure this during what has been a disastrous playoffs so far.

If Creed really can take the Rangers higher to a World Series victory, we’re betting the band will get played at Texas games for years to come.

Creed III sets record for biggest-ever box office opening for a sports movie

Creed III set a box office record for sports movies this weekend.

Creed III punched its way into record books this weekend at the box office.

With an estimated $58.6 million box office tally, the Michael B. Jordan-directed sequel notched the biggest-ever opening weekend for a sports movie in film history.

It’s a massive win for the box office and for Creed III, which earned stellar reviews and also gave the Rocky/Creed franchise its best-ever weekend at the multiplex.

Even without longtime franchise star Sylvester Stallone appearing in this latest installment, Creed III is setting itself up to be one of the real financial successes of 2023 so far. It’s clearly going the distance in theaters right now.

What’s also fascinating is that Creed III co-star Jonathan Majors is making bank with his Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania leading the box office the past two weeks ahead of the latest Creed film.

Majors is having quite a moment.

For those who haven’t hopped into the ring with Creed III yet, our Caroline Darney says the film is “a worthy entry into the series.”

Creed III is playing nationwide in theaters now.

The Eagles practiced to Creed and now NFL fans all want to bet on them beating the Niners

Can this take the Eagles higher?

I will be the first to admit it: When I saw the tweets about the Philadelphia Eagles practicing to “Creed,” I assumed it was the movie soundtrack to the Michael B. Jordan film.

Makes sense, right? Because Creed is a spinoff of Rocky and all of that is a Philadelphia story. And the Eagles would want to tap into that.

But no. On Friday, as reporters in attendance noted, they’re practicing to Creed THE BAND! As in Higher!

Why? I haven’t seen any reasons thrown out there, but maybe there’s symbolism in wondering if the team can take itself higher.

Fans suddenly wanted to bet on the team beating the San Francisco 49ers upon seeing this one:

The 10 best boxing movies of the decade

As we get closer to the Final Bell of the 2010s, let’s take a look at the 10 best.

By now, you know most of the great boxing movies. There’s Rocky, the ultimate battle of uncontested headshot to uncontested headshot against Apollo Creed, or that time he won over the hearts of Russia while defeating Ivan Drago. Humphrey Bogart’s performance in The Harder They Fall was perfect, just as Hitchcock’s imagery and choreographed perfection in The Ring was anything—oddly enough—but silent. And it’s almost impossible not to hoist Raging Bull and Million Dollar Baby atop the “All-Time Boxing Films” list.

Because the genre works so well with audiences, complemented by the rise of documentary films, more and more boxing tales are being produced, including over 10 in this decade.

As we get closer to the Final Bell of the 2010s, let’s take a look at the 10 best.

Undercard: China Heavyweight

I.M.B.D. Score: 5.9

Rotten Tomatoes: 69%

So, technically this makes the 11th entry, but what’s a good boxing experience without a solid undercard? China Heavyweight is an interesting look at the rise of boxing in China after the 1959 ban was finally lifted. The documentary follows boxing coach Qi Moxiang and his search for boxing hopefuls who will compete in the Olympics (and beyond). The makeup of the documentary follows a widespread theme boxing film fans are used to experiencing: Rags to Riches.

In this case, it’s a chance for peasant teenagers to escape hardships and obtain something better. With that kind of stakes, director Yung Chang does a beautiful job capturing the all-in desperation each fighter is willing to subject themselves to, with the hopes of one day competing for not just a medal but also the admiration of the country.
