Alabama vs Tennessee Game Preview

Why Alabama Will Win

Bryce Young is back.

His injured shoulder needed a little time, and while it’s still not right he appears to be on track to give it a go. Whether he’s back to normal or not out there at all, the Tide offense has the running game to pick up the slack.

The offensive line has been phenomenal at just the right time, backup QB Jalen Milroe and flash-back Jahmyr Gibbs have taken over, and it all should work against a Tennessee defensive that hasn’t seen anything like this.

Florida has a different type of running game – Anthony Richardson was too busy firing away for 453 yards to run – and LSU couldn’t seem to get anything going last week. Bama will bring more power, a great rotation of options, and the passing yards will fly no matter who’s under center.

Oh yeah, and Bama plays a little D, too.

Lost in the issues so far this year is a defense that’s still getting to the quarterback, still coming up large when it absolutely has to, and only two teams in college football are better against the run.

However …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 6

Why Tennessee Will Win

Does this look like one of those typical dominant Alabama teams to you?

Don’t blow off just how good Texas A&M really is – there’s a ton of talent on that team – but Bama should’ve rolled, didn’t, and it came within a better final play call of possibly walking out with a loss.

Arkansas had the Tide on the ropes going into the fourth quarter, and Texas came within a field goal of pulling off a shocker.

Three games against good teams, three tough battles, two that came within an eyelash of going the other way.

Tennessee is a good team.

The offense has been in total command with a tremendous balance, great play out of QB Hendon Hooker, enough explosion to challenge the shaky Bama corners – Xavier Worthy of Texas wore the Tide DBs as a hat in the first half of that – and now its time to show off.

What’s Going To Happen

This is the moment the Tennessee program has been waiting so long for.

It has the team, the talent, the upside, and the ability to win a monster game like this because it might be just that good. It has the scheme, the coaching, and the talent to come out firing and …

Welcome to the University of Alabama football program.

Tennessee might have a decent statistical run defense, but that’s mostly because everyone spends so much time throwing. The Crimson Tide will have their fun through the air, but they’re going to pull this off with the running game and a defensive front stepping up when they have to.

The Vols will get up fast. Social media will have Alabama dead, QB Hendon Hooker will be handed the Heisman, and a trip to the College Football Playoff will be a lock, and then Bama will go Bama.

Two quick scoring drives from the Tide running game will set the tone in the second half, the defense will feed off the momentum with a few key stops, and it’ll all slip away for the Vols.

It’ll be fun in the final moments with Hooker getting one last chance to do something amazing, and then the cigars will be lit.

Everything Nick Saban said on Wednesday of Tennessee week

Everything Alabama football coach Nick Saban said on Wednesday of Tennessee game week.

Week 7’s marquee matchup in college football will take place inside Neyland Stadium this weekend when [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide travel to Knoxville to take on Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers.

Following Wednesday’s practice, coach Saban got behind the microphone to discuss his team’s preparation for the rivalry matchup with the Vols.

Before fielding any questions coach Saban would get things started with an opening statement discussing the upcoming game and providing a little update on star quarterback [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag].

“I think that our emphasis this week has been on everybody self-assessing – coaches, myself, players. Do you think you’re really playing to the level that people respect, to the standard that we have, that your teammates respect, the discipline, the toughness, the effort to finish, focus on the next play, accountability to do your job. Those are basic, fundamental things that I think are very, very important to being successful, and that’s something that we’ve really emphasized. I think the players have done a pretty good job so far this week. We’ve got a tremendous challenge against a really good team on the road, SEC game, Game Day, all the things that make great games. If you’re a great competitor, you love great challenges, and this is certainly gonna be a great challenge for us in what we expect to be a difficult environment.

“Bryce continues to practice a little bit more. We’ve got him on a little bit of a pitch count just to kind of wean him back into it and see how it goes. So we expect him to do even a little more tomorrow. That’s all I really have to say about that.”

Here is everything else coach Saban had to say on Wednesday:

Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel discusses Alabama, Will Anderson ahead of Week 6 matchup

Quotes from Volunteer head coach Josh Heupel’s press conference on Monday.

Everyone knows what the marquee matchup is this week in college football. A pair of top ten teams are set to battle in Knoxville as [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide make the trip to take on Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers.

Yesterday we gave you everything that coach Saban said about the upcoming matchup with the Vols and this morning we will give you some quotes from coach Heupel as he prepares his team to end a 15-year losing streak to the Crimson Tide.

Coach Heupel addressed the media on Monday and would discuss the matchup with Alabama, [autotag]Will Anderson[/autotag], [autotag]Jahmyr Gibbs[/autotag], and much more. Here is what the coach had to say:

Everything Nick Saban said on Monday of Tennessee week

Everything Nick Saban said on Monday of Tennessee game week.

Alabama’s 2022 football season has reached the halfway point, believe it or not. [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Crimson Tide sit a perfect 6-0 as they enter the Week 7 matchup with the Tennessee Volunteers.

Alabama has had to scrape by on a couple of different occasions this season but the contest with Tennessee is sure the be the biggest test yet.

On Monday, coach Saban stepped to the podium in Tuscaloosa to put the finishing touches on last weekend’s game and to also look ahead to the rivalry matchup with Tennessee this weekend in Knoxville.

Here is everything coach Saban had to say on Monday of Tennessee game week.

Storylines to follow in Alabama’s epic matchup with Tennessee

The top storylines in Alabama’s epic rivalry matchup with the Tennessee Volunteers.

[autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide football team survived another scare this past Saturday with a 24-20 win over Texas A&M.

Now coach Saban and the Crimson Tide will shift their focus to the battle between two top-ten teams as Alabama travels to Knoxville to take on the Tennessee Volunteers.

Both Alabama and Tennessee enter the contest with undefeated records and the Volunteers are looking to put a 15-year winless drought to the Tide to an end.

There is plenty to be excited about relative to this matchup, but today we will look at what I believe to be the most important storylines in the rivalry matchup between Alabama and Tennessee. Better known as the “Third Saturday in October”.

Grading Alabama’s performance in convincing win over Tennessee

Taking a deeper look at how Alabama graded out in its win over Tennessee

Alabama’s 52-24 victory over Tennessee might be the most unusual 28 point win that I can remember. There were times when the offense seemed unstoppable, but there were also times they couldn’t get out of their own way. The defense was great other than about three or four plays. The special teams unit was really responsible for about 10 points that the Volunteers scored in the contest. So this really is a strange game to dissect.

Nevertheless, we are back for our weekly final grade post for the Tide’s performance. Let’s see how things turned out this week.

First … the offense…

What we learned from Alabama’s imposing win over Tennessee

Let’s take a look at a few things we learned from Alabama’s imposing win over the Tennesse Volunteers.

It wasn’t perfect, but No. 4 Alabama was able to gain a convincing 52-24 victory over the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday night.

At the end of the third quarter, Alabama held just a 24-17 lead but outscored the Vols 28-7 in the fourth.

After each contest, we take a look at a few things we learned from the Alabama performance. Let’s take a peek at what we learned this week.

WATCH: John Metchie ices game with late TD reception

WATCH: John Metchie speeds past the Tennessee defense to ice the game in Tuscaloosa.

John Metchie all but finished off the Tennessee Volunteers with a 19-yard touchdown reception from Bryce Young.

Young hit Metchie on a drag route across the middle of the field on 3rd and long, then turned on the afterburners to find the endzone.

Metchie now has 11 catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns on the day.
