Alabama transfer QB set to visit UGA

Georgia football will get a visit from Alabama Crimson Tide transfer QB

The Georgia Bulldogs might be getting a player from an SEC rival to transfer to UGA. Alabama transfer quarterback Dylan Lonergan will officially visit Georgia this week, according to Max Olson of ESPN.

Lonergan was a four-star recruit from Snellville, Georgia. He was ranked as the No. 13 quarterback in the class of 2023 and the Bulldogs recruited him, but he chose the Crimson Tide.

In 2024 with the Crimson Tide, he threw for 23 yards on five completions and ran for sixteen yards. However, with Alabama seemingly going with five-star Ty Thompson to replace Jalen Milroe, Lonergan decided to transfer.

He announced his decision after Alabama missed the College Football Playoff. Lonergan will has three seasons of eligibility remaining.

In his high school career, Lonergan passed for 7,851 yards, 71 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions while completing 63 percent of his pass attempts.

Georgia is pursuing other transfer quarterbacks, such as Cal QB Fernando Mendoza and Charlotte QB DeShawn Purdie. Whoever Georgia recruits will join a 2025 Georgia quarterback room with Gunner Stockton, Ryan Puglisi, Jaden Rashada, and four-star Ryan Montgomery.

PHOTOS: Alabama wears throwback uniforms in win vs. Creighton

An Alabama fan favorite uniform made its’ return Saturday night.

Not only did the Alabama Crimson Tide pick up a big win Saturday night at home against the Creighton Bluejays, but the program did so while wearing some special throwback uniforms.

The uniforms were an homage to some of the Alabama team’s from the early 2000’s, who wore them for multiple seasons around that time frame.

The second consecutive season that Alabama has worn a special uniform, the Crimson Tide controlled this game against Creighton from the start, cruising their way to an 83-75 victory. Despite some struggles from three-point range, Alabama received a game-high 27 points from Mark Sears, while guard Chris Youngblood also made his anticipated Crimson Tide debut.

Yet another impressive victory for the Crimson Tide, here are some of the top photos from Alabama vs. Creighton on Saturday night.

Former Alabama wide receiver re-enters NCAA transfer portal

A former Alabama wide receiver has re-entered the transfer portal.

A former Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver who originally began his college career in Tuscaloosa, JoJo Earle has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal once again, as announced Saturday night on social media.

Earle had spent each of the last two seasons with the TCU Horned Frogs, which is where he transferred to after entering the portal prior to the 2023 season.

At TCU, the wide receiver is coming off a 2024 season in which he saw time in only four games, amassing seven receptions for 37 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 30 yards on three attempts. During the 2023 and 2024 seasons, Earle had a combined 23 receptions for 276 yards and three scores, while also rushing for 42 yards on six attempts, as well as returning six punts for 39 yards.

A former four-star prospect in Alabama’s 2021 class, Earle had a combined 24 receptions for 303 yards and two touchdowns with the Crimson Tide, as well as returned 15 punts for 88 yards.

Instant recap: Alabama basketball survives tough challenge from Creighton

Alabama survives Creighton. Here’s how it happened.

Led by Mark Sears’ game-high 27 points, the Alabama Crimson Tide finally ended the “Creighton curse” Saturday night with an 83-75 victory over the Bluejays at Coleman Coliseum.

Alabama’s first game in Tuscaloosa in 33 days was far from an easy one. The Crimson Tide (8-2 overall) led by as many as 17 points in the first half, then had to hold on tight to close things out.

Nate Oats’ team started well, hitting five of its first eight shots for an early 13-5 lead in the first six minutes after Sears converted a layup off a mismatch underneath — part of a 9-0 Alabama run.

The Tide’s hot start continued when Labaron Philon converted an easy layup off a turnover and made another basket underneath to make it 24-10. Alabama  stretched the lead to 17 when Sears was left open on a deep 3-pointer to make it 27-10, an 11-0 Crimson Tide spurt as Creighton went almost 5:30 without a basket.

But Alabama hit a cold-shooting spell late in the opening half to allow Creighton (7-4) to make it a 10-point game with under four minutes. The Crimson Tide led 37-31 at halftime after closing the first half by making just one of their last 14 shots.

Alabama went up by 13 in the second half when freshman Derrion Reid’s dunk made it 65-52 with 6:40 to play. Reid would go on to finish with 12 points, his third game in four nights in double figures.

Creighton cut the lead to 10 with 4:30 left and slowly continued to chip away. When Jackson McAndrew converted a four-point play with 24 seconds left, the Bluejays trailed by just four at 79-75.

Alabama closed out the game from the free-throw line as Sears made all four attempts from the charity stripe. In addition to Sears’ 27 points, Philon finished with 16. Alabama shot 43 percent from the field (30-of-70) and only 20 percent (six-of-30) from behind the arc.

The Crimson Tide had been winless in three previous meetings against Creighton, including a loss in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament and last season’s 85-82 loss in Omaha.

Alabama basketball schedule 2024-25

The Crimson Tide will face the North Dakota Fighting Hawks (4-7) in Grand Forks, N.D., on Wednesday. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.

Alabama veteran defensive back enters NCAA transfer portal

A 2024 starter for Alabama has entered the transfer portal.

Only a day after a prominent Alabama Crimson Tide offensive player entered the NCAA transfer portal, a notable name on defense has now done the same, as safety DeVonta Smith announced his intentions Saturday afternoon.

Smith, a redshirt junior, had spent each of the first four seasons of his college career at Alabama.

A former four-star prospect from the 2021 recruiting class, Smith did not see much in-game action aside from special teams during the 2021-23 seasons, but did however enjoy a breakout 2024 campaign this fall. Across 12 games in which he was a starter in Alabama’s secondary, Smith compiled 30 tackles with one TFL, five PD, and a forced fumble.

Over his Alabama career, Smith has a combined stat line of 36 tackles, one TFL, five PD, and one forced fumble from 2021-24.

Smith is now transfer portal entry No. 13 for Alabama so far this cycle, as well as the first entrant at the safety position.

WATCH: Alabama basketball unveils SICK throwback uniforms for Creighton game

Alabama’s uniforms tonight vs. Creighton are straight FIRE!

Alabama basketball players were in for a big surprise ahead of the Crimson Tide’s game against Creighton Saturday night.

Former Alabama forward Erwin Dudley, who played at the Capstone from 1999-2003 under coach Mark Gottfried, introduced Mark Sears, Grant Nelson and other current Crimson Tide players to a special throwback uniform — one Bama fans will instantly recognize.

It’s the classic Crimson jersey Alabama wore during the early 2000s when Dudley and others helped lead the Tide to a string of NCAA Tournament appearances. Alabama wore this jersey during its run to the Elite Eight in 2004, which included a stunning 70-67 second-round upset of No. 1 seed Stanford at Key Arena in Seattle.

The school posted a video of the jerseys to their official social media accounts, which you can view below.

Tipoff for Alabama vs. Creighton is set for 7:30 p.m. CT. The game can be seen on SEC Network, with Tom Hart (play-by-play) and Dane Bradshaw (analyst) on the call at Coleman Coliseum.

Michigan football in contention for Alabama RB Justice Haynes in transfer portal

Another rivalry showdown! #GoBlue

Football teams often have to deal with sudden change, but going from Hassan Haskins and Blake Corum to Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards to Kalel Mullings and Donovan Edwards to (question mark) means that there’s little known production at the running back position for Michigan football entering 2025.

Though Ben Hall and Jordan Marshall are anticipated to be among those who tote the rock this upcoming season, the Wolverines are seeking some outside help.

On Friday, Dec. 13, Alabama running back Justice Haynes, coming out of his second season, entered the transfer portal, to the horror of fans in Tuscaloosa. And, according to On3’s Pete Nakos, Michigan football and Ohio State are the two schools competing for his services.

Here is how Haynes ranked as a recruit coming out of Buford (Ga.) in 2023:

On3 Industry Ranking 4 33 2 2

Rivals 4 33 1 2

And how he ranks in the transfer portal:

In 2024, Haynes had 79 carries for 449 yards and seven touchdowns while also adding 17 receptions for 99 yards. He didn’t see much time in 2023, but did get four carries for 31 yards against Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

Nate Oats says injured Alabama guard could return vs. Creighton

An Alabama transfer addition could make his debut vs. Creighton.

Up to this point in the season, the Alabama Crimson Tide have been without one of their top offseason transfer portal additions in Chris Youngblood.

A transfer from South Florida, Youngblood was the 2023-24 AAC Player of the Year where he averaged a combined 15.3 PPG on 41.6% shooting from three during his lone season with the Bulls. Prior to that, Youngblood spent multiple seasons at Kennesaw State where he averaged 13.8 PPG over three years.

Transferring to Alabama this past offseason, Youngblood was expected to be a potential starter for the Crimson Tide entering the year, but an injury put those thoughts on hold for multiple weeks.

According to Alabama head coach Nate Oats however, Youngblood is near a return from injury, and could even make his Alabama debut as early as this upcoming Saturday against Creighton.

“Chris has practiced in still a limited role,” Oats said. “We haven’t had him do everything, but I would anticipated him getting some minutes.”

“As long as he recovers from today (Friday) alright, I would anticipate him playing limited minutes tomorrow.”

The Crimson Tide are set to host Creighton on Saturday night inside Coleman Coliseum, with tipoff set for 8:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network.

Alabama running back, former 5-star prospect enters NCAA transfer portal

The Alabama running back has entered the transfer portal.

One of the biggest names in the Alabama Crimson Tide’s running back room, Justice Haynes announced his intentions to enter the NCAA transfer portal on Friday afternoon.

A former five-star prospect, Haynes originally came to Alabama as a member of the Crimson Tide’s 2023 class out of Buford High School in Georgia.

At Alabama, Haynes saw a limited amount of action in 2023 as a freshman, rushing for 168 yards and two touchdowns on 25 attempts. Haynes however had a breakout season this fall where he rushed for 448 yards and seven touchdowns on 79 attempts, which translated to an average of 5.7 yards per carry, while also catching 17 passes for 99 yards.

Over his two seasons at Alabama, Haynes had a combined 104 carries for 616 yards and nine touchdowns. Haynes was also Alabama’s third-leading rusher this season, sitting behind only Jalen Milroe and Jam Miller.

With Haynes now entering the portal, the number of Alabama players set to transfer this offseason now sits at 12 total. Haynes is the first running back in that group.

Alabama’s Ryan Williams and Zabien Brown named to SEC All-Freshman Team

SEC All-Freshman team’s includes two members of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

On Saturday, the Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Texas Longhorns in overtime to claim the SEC Championship throne. It was a race to the finish, with eight teams having a chance to compete for the championship, including the Alabama Crimson Tide, who ultimately came up just short.

Despite missing out on an SEC Championship and College Football Playoff berth, there are many positive things to take away from the 2024 season. I know people are upset with Kalen DeBoer for the 9-3 finish, but he was in his first year in a new environment and is still the right man for the job.

The future is very bright in Tuscaloosa as DeBoer and the Crimson Tide hold the No. 3 recruiting class in the 2025 cycle and saw solid production from some very young players. WR Ryan Williams and DB Zabien Brown were two freshmen who stood out this season and were both named to the SEC All-Freshman Team.

Williams was second on the Alabama roster in terms of receptions with 45, but led the team in yards with 857 and touchdowns with eight, while also rushing for two more scores. On the defensive side of the ball, Brown finished the season with 17 total tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
