San Diego State vs. Alabama head-to-head

Friday will be the 1st meeting on the court between Alabama and San Diego State.

San Diego State has made the tournament 8 times since 2010, the last time in 2018 when it was knocked off in the 1st round as an 11-seed. The Aztecs  advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2011 as a 2-seed and in 2014 as a 4-seed before being eliminated both times. They have never advanced past the Sweet 16.

This is Alabama’s 1st NCAA Tournament appearance since 2018 when it was eliminated in the 2nd round as a 9-seed. It is only the Tide’s 8th tournament appearance since 2002 and it is the No. 1 overall seed for the 1st time. Alabama advanced to the Elite Eight in 2004 as an 8-seed, but have not made it past the 2nd round since.

SEC Tournament: Texas A&M vs. Alabama odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Texas A&M vs. Alabama SEC Tournament odds and lines, with expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 18 Texas A&M Aggies (25-8) look to repeat the final game of the regular season with a victory over the No. 5 Alabama Crimson Tide (28-5) in SEC Tournament Championship in Nashville Sunday at 1 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Texas A&M vs. Alabama  odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Rankings courtesy of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

Alabama has been one of the most consistent teams all season and is a  likely No. 1 seed when the brackets are announced Sunday night. Alabama has won its 1st 2 conference tournament games by a combined 34 points as the defense held Missouri 19 points below its season average and allowed  Mississippi State to score just 49 points.

Brandon Miller continues to thrive for the Tide and the SEC player of the year and potential national player of the year, has shown why he was a coveted 5-star prospect in the Class of 2023.

Texas A&M will need to rely on its defense, which has served it well in the tournament thus far holding Arkansas to 61 points, although the offense stepped up against Vanderbilt in the semifinals by putting up 87 points in a 12-point win.

Texas A&M vs. Alabama picks and predictions

Prediction

Alabama 72, Texas A&M 65

Moneyline

PASS.

Although the Aggies won the final game of the regualar season over Alabama 67-61, this game will be different. This game is not in College Station. And this game means a lot more to Alabama than that game did.

Alabama is favored for a reason, but -210 is too much to wager on any straight bet. It is a wonderful addition to a parlay, but it is not worth a wager otherwise.

Against the spread

ALABAMA -4.5 (-115).

The Crimson Tide have been on a mission through the SEC Tournament,  defeating Mississippi State 72-49 and Missouri 72-61. Miller scored 21 in the semifinal win and became the top freshman scorer in Alabama history in the process.

The 4.5 points does not feel like enough the way Alabama is playing. Alabama is the correct side up to 6.5 and the 2 points of perceived value makes it an even stronger play.

Over/Under

UNDER 145.5 (-115).

With Alabama ranked 7th at 82.8 points per game, you would think the Over is the play. But the defense of Alabama has come up strong late and despite the high-octane offense, only 15 of Alabama’s games have gone Over the total this season.

Texas A&M also plays a ball-control game, and it will take the air out of the ball Sunday to avoid being run out of the gym by the more athletic Crimson Tide. Coach Buzz Williams has done a great job this season in adapting to the opponent. This has gotten the Aggies to a 25-8 record and to this game. He will try the same approach  this Sunday to the one that  workedlast Sundayin 6-point win over Alabama. Although the result might be different here, the score should be close and this means Under 145.5 is the wager.

SEC Tournament: Mississippi State vs. Alabama odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Mississippi State vs. Alabama SEC Tournament odds and lines, with expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs (21-11) take on the No. 5 Alabama Crimson Tide (26-5) in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals in Nashville on Friday at 1 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Mississippi State vs. Alabama odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

Despite losing the final game of the regular season 67-61 to Texas A&M, Alabama still finished a great season as the top seed in the SEC tournament. It also has an inside track at a top seed in March Madness if it can take care of business this weekend.

After defeating the Bulldogs 78-67 on the road Dec. 28 as a 1-point favorite, the Crimson Tide had a more difficult time at home Jan. 25 winning 66-63 game after coming in favored by 12 points.

With an offense that ranks 314th in the nation at 66.4 points per game, the Bulldogs use a top-10 defense at 60.4 PPG to hold teams down. Against an Alabama team which ranks 7th in scoring (82.8  PPG), Mississippi State will need to do this once again to pull off an upset in Nashville.

Mississippi State vs. Alabama picks and predictions

Prediction

Alabama 77, Mississippi State 67

Moneyline

PASS.

Alabama is the far superior team in this game. The Tide, behind potential  player-of-the-year candidate Brandon Miller, are on track for a No. 1 seed and have their sights set on the 1st Final Four in school history.

Mississippi State has a good defense. But the offense will not be able to compete with Alabama. But at -340, Alabama is not a bet worth making straight.

Against the spread

ALABAMA -7.5 (-110).

With the offense of Alabama, which ranks 7th at 82.8 points being the best unit on the floor, the Crimson Tide will be able to force the Bulldogs to play a fast pace. Something the Bulldogs are uncomfortable doing.

This level of uncomfortable play will be enough to make the Mississippi State defense, which ranks 10th, to falter and make mistakes.

After starting off close, the game will become more lopsided in the second half as Alabama begins to use its 3-point shooting and rebounding t pull away from Mississippi State. -7.5 for Alabama is the side to wager on.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

OVER 137.5 (-115).

It may not go Over by a lot, but the Alabama offense will get this game Over the total by games end.

Despite having the 10th-ranked scoring defense, the last 4 Mississippi State games have gone Over. The Bulldogs have also gone Over in 4 of their last 5 games following a win.

For the Tide, the Over has hit in 4 straight neutral site games and they have also gone Over the total in 4 of 5 overall.

Unless this game gets to overtime, I do not see a 90-point showing from either team. But I expect Alabama getting to 75. And this will be enough to get this game Over the 137.5 total.
