Houston WR Tank Dell would like to ‘help that rebuild’ with the Texans

Houston Cougars WR Tank Dell says that he considers himself a Houstonian and would like to be a part of the Houston Texans’ rebuild.

INDIANAPOLIS — As the nameplates were being swapped out for the next round of interviews, media members attending the NFL combine rushed to the monitor to see who was next.

As I stood back to wait my turn, I heard a familiar name being asked about where his interview would take place.

“Where is Tank Dell’s interview going to be,” asked a journalist standing behind the crowd.

It is not unusual for individuals to flock around Dell to listen to what he says. The wide receiver, whose real name is Nathaniel, has a unique way of drawing a crowd on and off the field. Even though he is listed at 5-foot-8, Tank believes that his size won’t be a factor in the NFL.

“I don’t feel like it would affect me at all,” said Dell when asked about his stature. “I have been playing football since I was five years old, and I always played against bigger dudes. Of course, I am going to have to adapt (NFL), but I am going to pick up where I left off from college. I feel like I can make plays against anybody, so I am going to be ready.”

Things haven’t come very easy for Dell along his football journey. He played in four games at Alabama A&M University in 2018 before redshirting. The following season he enrolled for one year at Independence College in Kansas before eventually finding his way to the Houston campus in 2020.

During his three years at the University of Houston, Dell amassed 3,155 yards receiving, 228 receptions, and 32 touchdowns. In his final season at UH, he led the nation in receiving yards (1,398) and touchdowns (17) and was second in receptions (109). He was also selected First Team American Athletic Conference in back-to-back seasons (2021, 2022).

“Every time I step on the field, I feel like I with two chips on both shoulders,” Dell responded when asked about his production. “Every time I step on the field, I feel like I have a point to prove.”

Projected as a late mid-to-late third-day draft pick, Dell is well aware of the need for wide receiver depth the Houston Texans are looking to fill.

“I would love to,” said Dell about being a part of the Houston Texans rebuild. “I love Houston. I feel like it would go well if I went there. If they come to get me, it would be a blessing. I am a Florida boy, but I am also a Houstonian. I feel like I have been out there my whole life. So, it would be great just to get out there and help that rebuild.”

Ohio State basketball takes down Alabama A&M in nonconference tune up

In its last nonconference game of the year, the Ohio State basketball team used a second-half surge to beat Alabama A&M on Thursday.

We know all focus and attention is on the happenings in Atlanta right now, but the Ohio State basketball team continues to go through the early part of its 2022-2023 schedule, and it took care of business on a rare Thursday afternoon game against Alabama A&M by a winning score of 90-59.

Things were closer than expected midway through the contest, and in fact, the Buckeyes went into the locker room at halftime up just 36-33 due to a spurt by the Bulldogs.

Ohio State took control in the second half though behind a better defensive effort and better shooting. Twelve players total scored for the Buckeyes (welcome back Eugene Brown), with three players finishing in double figures.

Brice Sensabaugh continued his separation and revelation as Ohio State’s best scoring option. The freshman poured in another 21 points to lead all scorers. He also grabbed six rebounds. Justice Sueing contributed 18 points and freshman point guard Bruce Thorton tossed in 12.

The Buckeyes were solid in the stats that seem to point toward victory. OSU outrebounded Alabama A&M 42-30, won the turnover battle (10 to 17), and shot 52.7% from the floor to the Bulldogs’ 38.7%.

With the win, Ohio State improves to 9-3 on the season and will now turn its attention to the Big Ten campaign that will start in earnest at Northwestern on New Year’s Day.

Deion Sanders has guided Jackson State to another spot in the SWAC Championship Game

Deion Sanders and Jackson State won their game against Alabama A&M on Saturday, 27-13, but lost quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the third quarter of the SWAC matchup.

Sanders was hit by two Alabama A&M players and needed to be helped to the sidelines. He was 12-of-20 for 164 yards at the time of his injury and did not return to the game.

The victory earned the Tigers a second straight trip to the SWAC Championship Game. This is the first time in program history Jackson State is 10-0.

The Tigers finish their regular season on Saturday against Alcorn State.

Heralded recruit Travis Hunter had a huge game, with the first TD of his college career and an interception.
