Former Alabama WR Jameson Williams makes it clear which college he claims as his alma-mater

Former Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams made his stance clear on if he favored Alabama or Ohio State.

After a recent Instagram post showed former Ohio State teammates Garrett Wilson and Jameson Williams’ journey together to the NFL, the former Alabama wide receiver made sure to voice his opinion. In the comment section, he replied, “Yal ain have to put the o state joint,” Williams said.

Ultimately, he makes it rather clear that he doesn’t claim Ohio State as his alma mater. Instead, it seems pretty evident that Alabama is the school that Williams prefers to claim. After all, he did get an opportunity to create value for himself in Tuscaloosa. A lot of value at that.

In his lone season at Alabama, Williams hauled in 79 receptions for 1,572 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. He was a Biletnikoff Award finalist which is given to the nation’s most outstanding wide receiver.

Meanwhile, he hardly scratched the surface in Columbus as the Buckeyes’ coaching staff failed to utilize his skillset in their offense. The Missouri native played sparingly while recording 15 receptions for 266 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

It just goes to show that Williams’ presence was much more appreciated in his time at Alabama. When asked about who Williams claims as his school, here is what he had to say:

“Ohio State fans be tripping. They don’t claim me. I don’t claim them. They disowned me. I went to Bama. When I graduate, I will have graduated from Bama.”

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Williams’ professional career as well as other former Alabama players in the NFL.

Former Alabama WR joins Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad

Former Alabama wide receiver Robert Foster signed with the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad. He last played for the New York Giants.

On Tuesday, the Indianapolis Colts signed former Alabama wide receiver Robert Foster to their practice squad. Foster was last a part of the New York Giants practice squad.

Foster entered the NFL in 2018 as an undrafted free agent. Since joining the league, he has played for the Bills, Packers, Commanders, Dolphins, Cowboys, and Giants.

In his professional career, he has hauled in 32 receptions for 642 receiving yards and three touchdowns. With the Colts lacking production at the wide receiver position outside of Michael Pittman Jr., Foster could join the active roster fairly soon.

It will be interesting to see what the Colts decide to do with Foster. Their season is likely over in terms of the playoffs. Foster could receive an opportunity to make a name for himself.

Former Tide LB believes Bryce Young should return for his senior season

Bryce Young has proven that he is ready to play at the next level. However, one former Alabama player doesn’t think so and believes Young should return for his senior season.

One former Alabama player expressed his belief that Alabama quarterback Bryce Young should return for his senior season. Former edge rusher Tim Williams made it clear Young should elect to play one more season in Tuscaloosa.

“He needs to show he can win a ring under heavy pressure like the quarterbacks before him,” Williams said.

Young has cemented himself as one of the best quarterbacks to ever play at Alabama much less in the history of college football. The California native passed for more than 8,000 yards with 75 touchdowns over the course of three seasons.

Many draft experts believe Young will land at either No. 1 or No. 2 in the 2023 NFL draft. While he hasn’t declared or opted out of the bowl game, the expectation is he will forgo his senior season to enter the draft.

Williams’ statement might make sense to a few, but there is no denying  Young is ready to play at the next level.

Former Alabama graduate assistant hired as Western Michigan’s new head coach

Former Nick Saban assistant and Alabama wide receiver Lance Taylor has been hired as Western Michigan’s next head coach. Taylor played for Alabama from ’99-’03.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban has seen a number of his former assistants hired to become head coaches elsewhere. On Thursday, Western Michigan announced that the program hired Lance Taylor to be the next head coach of the program.

Taylor was a graduate assistant during his time at Alabama. Before that, he was a walk-on wide receiver for the Tide. He played under former head coach Mike Shula from 1999-2003.

Several years later, Taylor began his coaching career as a graduate assistant. He served on Saban’s staff from 2007-2008 before being hired as the wide receivers coach at Appalachian State.

Since his coaching career began, Taylor has had several larger coaching roles. He was Stanford’s running backs coach for three years. Notre Dame hired him to be the team’s running backs coach and run game coordinator. Most recently, he was the offensive coordinator at Louisville.

Now, he will be heading to Kalamazoo to lead the Broncos. This season, the team finished with a 5-7 record. Taylor and his staff will look to change that next season as he looks to build an identity for his program.

Two former Alabama players drafted by Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL

Thomas Fletcher and Chris Owens were both drafted by the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL.

Alabama fans were able to see former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron join the St. Louis BattleHawks of the XFL. Now, two other Tide alumni will team up for the Seattle Sea Dragons. Long snapper Thomas Fletcher and offensive tackle Chris Owens were both drafted by the newly-established team. The two were once teammates at the University of Alabama.

Owens spent six seasons with the Tide. The Texas native played every position along the offensive line. Last season, he started 12 games at right tackle while making one start at center. His experience and leadership helped the Tide reach the College Football Playoff.

As for Fletcher, he spent four seasons in Tuscaloosa as the team’s starting long snapper. He was eventually drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He went on to spend one season with the organization before being waived in August of this year.

Former Tide RB questions the culture of the current Alabama football program

Former Alabama running back Bo Scarbrough met with Nick Saban and discussed his frustrations with the current team.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban recently did his weekly radio appearance on “Hey Coach”. While doing so, he mentioned that one former Alabama football player was unhappy with the state of the team. That player happens to be Bo Scarbrough who spent four seasons with the Tide.

Saban commented on what was said between him and Scarbrough during their conversation. “Bo Scarbrough was here today and he put his finger on the table and said, ‘When we played here, we were making sure that the other team, when the game was over, would say we never wanna play them again.’ … That’s the kind of culture that we want to recreate,” he said.

That is a strong statement from the former Tide ball carrier. However, it could be the truth. Alabama has had a lot of close games this season and has lost to two rivals this season.

This team has been penalized more than any Alabama team that Saban has ever coached. That said, the issues seemed to have plagued the team so far this season. Although the Tide is not totally out of the playoff picture, the chances of them making it are close to absolute zero.

Scarbrough isn’t the only former player frustrated. Others like Marquis Maze and Will Lowery have each voiced their opinions on the state of the team. Each has been critical of the standard and culture of the current team. Needless to say, there could be a lot of adjustments being made in the offseason in terms of coordinators as well as other assistant coaches within the program.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the latest surrounding the Alabama football program.
