Former Clemson guard announces where he’ll play next season

Al-Amir Dawes announces his transfer destination

Former Clemson guard Al-Amir Dawes announced on Instagram Wednesday that he is transferring to play for Seton Hall and their new head coach Shaheen Holloway.

Dawes, the Newark native, is heading back to New Jersey to finish his collegiate career.

The guard started 66 games for Brad Brownell and the Tigers, with this past season being his most productive yet where he was second on the team in scoring, averaging a career-high 11.3 points per game. He shot a career-high 84.7% from the free-throw line and led the team shooting 39.7% from three.

Guards Al-Amir Dawes and Nick Honor are officially gone, with Honor landing in the SEC at Missouri. They’ve brought in one guard in former College of Charleston and Boston College transfer Brevin Galloway.

A Clemson guard who recently entered the transfer portal has revealed where he will finish his collegiate career.

Al-Amir Dawes is headed to Seton Hall.

The Newark (N.J.) native is returning home. Dawes, who started 25 of the 33 games he played this past season as a junior, announced his decision to transfer to the Big East program Wednesday via social media.

The 6-foot-2, 182-pound guard finished last season as the Tigers’ second-leading scorer (11.3 points per game). His 39.8% clip from 3-point range was also tops on the team.

Dawes started 66 games over the last three seasons, averaging 9.9 points and 2.2 assists during his Clemson career. He shot 40.1% from the field and 37.2% from beyond the arc.

Clemson has found at least one replacement in the portal so far in former College of Charleston and Boston College guard Brevin Galloway. The Tigers have one scholarship remaining for next season after recently getting a commitment from Galloway.

Clemson lands three-star 2022 point guard

Clemson men’s basketball added a fourth, highly-touted recruit to its 2022 class on Wednesday.

In an offseason with plenty of turnover and unexpected twists, Clemson men’s basketball added a 2022 three-star recruit to its incoming freshman class on Wednesday.

According to Joe Tipton of On3, Dillon Hunter, brother of current Clemson guard Chase Hunter, has committed to Clemson. Out of Wichita, Kansas, Hunter is the No. 127 overall prospect, according to On3 2022 Consensus.

The 6-foot-3 guard chose the Tigers over five other schools, including Baylor, Auburn and Georgia. Dillon Hunter signed a letter of intent to Baylor in November but decommitted on April 18, just two days before the move to the Tigers.

Dillon Hunter’s commitment helps alleviate the hole left behind by former Clemson guards Nick Honor and Al-Amir Dawes, who both entered the transfer portal after last season. The Tigers were thought to have added Princeton transfer guard Jaelin Llewellyn a week ago, but Llewellyn announced his recruitment reopening on Tuesday.

With the addition of Dillon Hunter, Clemson now has four members of its 2022 recruiting class, which includes three-star forward RJ Godfrey and three-star guard Chauncey Gibson.

Transfer point guard backs out of joining Clemson

Six days after Clemson added a first-team-all-Ivy League point guard, he has now reopened his recruitment.

Transfer Jaelin Llewellyn has reopened his recruitment six days after Clemson basketball officially announced the addition of the former Princeton point guard.

“I am still considering Clemson as my home for next year, but due to recent changes, my family and I have decided to reopen my recruitment in order to reconsider the best options,” Llewellyn said on Twitter.

As a first-team-all-Ivy League guard last season, Llewellyn averaged 15.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists a game while shooting nearly 45% from the field and 39% from three.

The announcement comes days after Clemson lost the second assistant coach this offseason in Kareem Richardson, who is moving to North Carolina State. The first assistant on the move was Antonio Reynolds Dean, who was with the Tigers for the past five years and left for Georiga on April 12.

With the loss of former Clemson guards Nick Honor and Al-Amir Dawes, Llewellyn reopening his recruitment adds salt to a wound the Tigers had started to heal.

Point guard Nick Honor is headed to Missouri. Honor, who started 35 games over the last two seasons with the Tigers, announced his decision to transfer to the SEC program Tuesday via social media.

Honor, who originally began his career at Fordham, averaged 7.7 points and more than two assists in 33 games this past season. He’s one of two former Clemson guards (Al-Amir Dawes) that have entered the transfer portal this offseason.

Clemson has found at least one replacement in the portal so far in former Princeton guard Jaelin Llewellyn, who signed with the Tigers last week.

Clemson transfer Nick Honor narrows list down to three teams

One of Clemson’s guards in the transfer portal has narrowed down his list to three teams.

After entering the transfer portal and gaining interest from 10 teams, Clemson transfer point guard Nick Honor has trimmed his list down to three teams.

According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, Honor has narrowed his potential new team down to Minnesota, SMU and Missouri. Honor previously had South Carolina interested in him, but he will not become a Gamecock barring any changes.

In 33 games with the Tigers last season, Honor averaged 7.7 points and 2.4 assists per game. The 5-foot-10 guard transferred from Fordham to Clemson in 2019 and will now join his third team in his career.

Along with Honor, Clemson guard Al-Amir Dawes has also entered the portal, severely diminishing the Tigers’ guard depth for next season.

Clemson guard Al-Amir Dawes enters transfer portal

Clemson basketball to lose another piece as Al-Amir Dawes enters the transfer portal.

Today, news broke that Clemson basketball junior guard Al-Amir Dawes has entered the transfer portal. Dawes ranked second on the team in scoring this season averaging 11.3 points per game while shooting 39% from three and nearly 85% from the free-throw line.

This is terrible news for the Clemson basketball team as this is now their second guard to enter the transfer portal in the last couple of weeks. On March 22nd, longtime Clemson guard Nick Honor elected to enter the transfer portal, looking for a new home to play basketball his senior year. Only time will tell if this fallout continues for the Tigers.

Clemson knocks off N.C. State, advances in ACC Tournament

Clemson’s men’s basketball season will see at least one more day.

The Tigers stayed hot Tuesday with a 70-64 win over North Carolina State in the opening round of the ACC Tournament. PJ Hall recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Nick Honor and Al-Amir Dawes added 13 and 12 points, respectively, for the Tigers, who ran their winning streak to season-best five games with their latest victory inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

It wasn’t always the prettiest performance against the ACC’s last-place team during the regular season for the Tigers, who shot 41.7% from the field and made just 6 of 23 3-point shots. But Clemson (17-15) came up with timely makes to advance to a second-round matchup with Virginia Tech on Wednesday.

Hall (foot inflammation) returned to the starting lineup for the first time in four games and scored eight points in the first half to help Clemson take a 29-24 advantage into the break. N.C. State (11-21), behind a game-high 19 points from Dereon Seabron, stayed close early in the second half, getting within a possession at 39-36 with 12:18 left.

But the Tigers ripped off a quick 8-0 run capped by consecutive 3s from Honor and eventually pushed their lead back to double digits. The Wolfpack made another push to get within six with 5:48 remaining, but Hall chased down a loose ball to retain Clemson’s ensuing possession before finding Dawes alone on the wing for another 3.

A few possessions later, Hall rebounded a couple of misses, including one of his own, and kicked out to Hunter, who buried a corner 3 to get the Tigers’ advantage back to double digits, 60-50, with 4:10 left.

N.C. State made one last push, again trimming the deficit to two possessions in the final 2 minutes. But Clemson made six of its final nine free throws to keep the Wolfpack at bay down the stretch.
