Ajla Tomljanovic eliminated Williams on Friday night after maybe the most grueling and agonizing 6-1 set you’ll ever see. It felt like each time Tomljanovic set up for a match point, Williams would fiercely counter the way she has through the entirety of her career.
She did not go down without a fight and no one expected her to. Tomljanovic said she didn’t expect Williams to lose until she actually beat her. That’s just how good she is.
