SIGNED: 3-star tight end A.J. Pugliano is officially a Duck

The Oregon Ducks officially signed 3-star tight end AJ Pugliano, adding him to the 2024 class.

Ever since Dan Lanning came to Oregon, he stated that it was of the utmost importance for the Ducks to recruit their home state, and keep the best talent in the area actually in the area.

That’s something that they were successful with this year in the 2024 recruiting cycle, with 3-star tight end A.J. Pugliano signing his letter of intent on Wednesday and officially joining the Oregon Ducks.

Pugliano, a Medford native, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 521 player in the 2024 class, and the No. 30 TE in the nation. He is also rated as the No. 3 player in the state of Oregon.

Pugliano is the second tight end in Oregon’s 2024 class, joining 4-star Roger Saleapaga.

Pugliano chose the Ducks over schools like Arizona, and Washington State.

At the moment, the Ducks have a solid outlook for the TE position in 2024, assuming that Terrance Ferguson returns for another year, which is still in question. Should Ferguson declare for the NFL Draft, though, then there is a chance that Pugliano could play his way into the rotation in a minor role, much like we saw from true freshman Kenyon Sadiq in 2023.

Here are some of Pugliano highlights:

Breaking: No. 1 ranked 2024 prospect in Oregon commits to the Ducks

Oregon’s top talent staying in the state of Oregon. 4-star TE A.J. Pugliano is committing to the Ducks.

The Oregon Ducks just landed a massive commitment, getting their 2024 recruiting class off to a hot start.

4-star tight end A.J. Pugliano, the No. 1 ranked player in the state of Oregon, announced his commitment to the Ducks on Monday morning. Over the weekend, it was projected by multiple sources that he would be committing to the Ducks, and he didn’t waste much time doing so.

As someone who grew up in Oregon, the Ducks have always been close to Pugliano’s heart, he told me earlier this year.

“I grew up a Duck fan my whole life prior to my recruitment and all of that. I would go to a couple of Duck games a year because both of my parents graduated from Oregon,” Pugliano told me back in February after his visit to Eugene. “From a fan perspective, they’ve been my number one for as long as I can remember.”

Pugliano is rated as the No. 5 tight end in the 2024 class, and the No. 91 overall player in the nation.

Ducks become heavy favorite to land 2024 4-star TE, top-ranked player in state of Oregon

Dan Lanning wants to keep the best talent in Oregon, in Oregon. It looks like he’s doing a good job of that.

One thing Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning stressed when he took over in Eugene was his team needed to do everything it could to recruit its backyard before anywhere else.

Lanning and his staff appear to be doing a good job of keeping the best talent in Oregon in Oregon. A pair of new predictions have come in for Oregon to land a commitment from four-star tight end A.J. Pugliano, the No. 1 player in the state’s 2024 class. Pugliano plays at North Medford High School and has frequented Oregon games for much of his life.

“I grew up a Duck fan my whole life prior to my recruitment and all of that. I would go to a couple of Duck games a year because both of my parents graduated from Oregon,” Pugliano told me in February after his visit to Eugene. “From a fan perspective, they’ve been my number one for as long as I can remember.”

Pugliano is rated as the No. 5 tight end in the 2024 class and the No. 91 overall player in the nation. He doesn’t have a long offer list just yet, but that is likely going to change as his recruitment goes on. However, it’s clear that the Ducks have an early lead to land him. Both 247Sports’ Brandon Huffman and Steve Wiltfong place crystal ball predictions for Pugliano to commit to the Ducks.

Ducks extend offer to 2024 North Medford tight end AJ Pugliano

The Oregon Ducks extended an offer to class of 2024 tight end AJ Pugliano from local North Medford High School.

The Oregon Ducks are just getting started on the recruiting trail for the class of 2024, extending their second in-state offer to North Medford tight end AJ Pugliano last week after he impressed at the team’s Saturday Night Live camp.

Pugliano grew up rooting for the Ducks, and getting his first D1 offer from the University means a lot to him.

“I’ve always talked about how the first of your offers hold a little more personal weight,” Pugliano said in an interview at 247Sports. “And to have it come from my childhood team is special.”

While the local kid sure seems like a decent bet to end up in the green and yellow in a few years, Oregon is not going to be the last school to give Pugliano an offer.

“Obviously Oregon has been recruiting me but as well so has Oregon State, Washington and Eastern Washington,” said Pugliano.  “The whole process is just getting started for me. Right now coach (Don) Johnson and coach (Bobby) Williams at Oregon plus coach (Thomas) Ford at Washington seem to the be the coaches that stick out.”

Pugliano is planning to do more unofficial visits, at Oregon State and Washington, before he makes his decision. He has multiple years until he has to sign, and plans to take the process slow to really explore all of his options before making a decision.

“My timeline for a decision isn’t really specific,” said Pugliano. “I’ve still got a long ways to go until college, so my focus is appreciating those who believe in me and getting better everyday.”
