Contract details for Panthers CB A.J. Bouye

CB AJ Bouye contract details with Carolina Panthers.

Contract details for the deal cornerback AJ Bouye signed last week with the Carolina Panthers have been released. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Panthers did not break the bank for the veteran who projects as the team’s starter across from Donte Jackson.

Per Rapoport, the two-year contract Bouye inked is worth $7 million:

Formerly an undrafted rookie signee of the Houston Texans in 2013, Bouye hit big with the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency in 2017. He signed a five-year deal worth $67.5M. Bouye went on to be traded to the Denver Broncos prior to 2020, but that $13.5M average annual salary is much higher than the low cost $3.5 average the Panthers gave him.

Previously a Pro Bowler in 2017, Carolina is rolling the dice that he can return to positive form. In seven games in Denver a year ago, he allowed two touchdowns, 273 yards and a 108.4 passer rating in coverage. However, as recent as 2019, Pro Football Focus labeled the 29-year-old as the NFL’s 15th best cornerback in coverage.

Former Jags corner A.J. Bouye joins Panthers

A.J. Bouye has a new home once again as he has signed a contract with the Carolina Panthers, the team announced Wednesday.

Former Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback A.J. Bouye is on the move again. The 29-year-old has agreed to terms with the Carolina Panthers, the team announced on Wednesday. Originally an undrafted player out of Central Florida, Bouye spent the first four seasons of his career in Houston before signing a five-year, $67.5 million contract with the Jaguars in 2017.

That season was the best of his career as he played opposite Jalen Ramsey. He notched a career-high six interceptions and made his only Pro Bowl appearance. However, his play declined over the next two years a bit, and Jacksonville decided to offload his contract by shipping him to Denver for a fourth-round pick in 2020.

With the Broncos last season, he appeared in seven games and allowed two touchdowns and 273 yards. On Dec. 9, he was suspended for six games for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy. He missed the final four games of the 2020 season, and his suspension will carry over to the first two games of the 2021 season.

Poll: How do you feel about the Jags’ selection of Florida CB C.J. Henderson?

So how do you all feel about the Jags’ selections of Florida CB C.J. Henderson?

With the No. 9 pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected cornerback C.J. Henderson out of Florida.

The 6-foot-1, 204-pound cornerback ran a 4.39 at the Scouting Combine back in February. The Jaguars were in desperate need of corner help after trading Pro-Bowl pair Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye earlier this year.

Henderson established himself this year as an elite man-coverage corner and will be looking to come in and contribute as a true number one in coverage from day one.

With three of the top tier elite offensive linemen and no wide receivers taken at the time, how do you feel about the Jaguars’ selection of the former Gator?

What can the Redskins get in return for a Quinton Dunbar trade?

The Redskins are shopping Dunbar around the league, but what are they likely to get in return?

It was reported on Saturday evening that the Washington Redskins are putting cornerback Quinton Dunbar up for a trade, so the question now is what they will likely be asking for him in return.

In 2019, Dunbar became one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus, and his name on the trade market should garner some attention. On top of his abilities, Dunbar is also playing on a cheap contract, with only $3.25 million remaining in the last year of his deal. Of course, should he be traded, an extension would likely be worked out ahead of time.

So what do you think the Redskins could get in return for a player like Dunbar? It’s a bit tough to say, as the price tag for a dominant cornerback has been all over the board over the past six months. Back in October of 2019, the Jacksonville Jaguars traded star CB Jalen Ramsey to the Los Angeles Rams for two first-round picks, and a fourth-rounder — an absolutely massive haul that is still being questioned to this day. Just this past week, the Denver Broncos trade for Jaguars CB A.J. Bouye was finalized, and they gave up just a fourth-round pick to get the former Pro Bowler who is still in his prime.

And on top of all of this, the Detroit Lions traded away star CB Darius Slay this past week to the Philadelphia Eagles, accepting a third-round pick and a fifth-round pick in return.

So which price tag best suits a player like Dunbar?

Well, you can throw the Ramsey trade out the window — any trade that consists of two first-round picks, plus a mid-round pick is by definition a blockbuster, and it’s still mind-boggling to think that the Rams gave up that much draft capital, knowing that they would have to extend Ramsey to a massive contract as well.

The package that the Lions got for Slay is intriguing, but it seems a bit high when considered for Dunbar, considering that Slay is a three-time Pro-Bowler and a former first-team All-Pro.

So the sweet spot seems to be somewhere closer to what the Jaguars got for Bouye. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Washington accept a fourth- or fifth-round pick in return for Dunbar, assuming it happens before the draft. Anything more seems like wishful thinking, and anything less is too much of a steal.

Jalen Ramsey reacts to Jaguars’ latest trade involving A.J. Bouye

Jalen Ramsey is loving the Jaguars’ roster destruction.

After the Jaguars traded Jalen Ramsey to the Rams last season, the All-Pro cornerback expressed a sense of relief to be out of Jacksonville and in L.A. It’s not because the weather or food are better in Los Angeles, but because he was no longer part of the dysfunction inside the walls of the Jaguars’ headquarters.

He wasn’t the only player happy to be traded by Jacksonville, with Dante Fowler Jr. and Allen Robinson also sharing that same sentiment. The latest deal made by Jacksonville involves Ramsey’s ex-teammate A.J. Bouye, who the team sent to Denver for a fourth-round pick.

This was Ramsey’s initial reaction …

… followed by a more to-the-point one.

The Jaguars have completely torn down the roster that nearly got them to the Super Bowl a few years back, and it’s not over yet. They’re going to place the tag on Yannick Ngakoue, who has outright said he doesn’t want to stay with the Jaguars long-term.

Ramsey, Fowler, Robinson, Bouye and Blake Bortles are all with new teams, and none of them seem upset about getting out of Jacksonville.
