Latest USA TODAY Coaches poll is out. Is Michigan or Ohio State ranked higher?

Ohio State continues to remain in the same spot in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll heading into the matchup with Michigan.

The latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll has been released and Ohio State continues to hang out in the No. 2 spot where it has been for several weeks now. Just ahead of the Buckeyes is Georgia at No.1, and just behind Ohio State is Michigan at No. 3.

That means — at least from a Coaches poll standpoint — that Saturday’s game between the old rivals will be a top three matchup. It’s expected to be that case in the other polls as well.

With some upsets over the past week, the rest of the poll once again saw some changes, with the top ten also seeing a shuffle, largely because of the unexpected loss of what was No. 5 Tennessee over the weekend.

Before we dive into the top ten of the Coaches Poll let’s first look at the rest of the teams in the top 25.

Ohio State makes no movement in latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

Ohio State football didn’t move either way in the latest release of the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll. See where the Buckeyes landed.

Ohio State remained in the same spot it was last week when the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll came out. Despite a ton of results from conference championship weekend, OSU remained No. 7 behind Alabama (1), Michigan (2), Georgia (3), Cincinnati (4), Notre Dame (5), and Baylor (6). Rounding out the top ten are Ole Miss (8), Oklahoma State (9). and Michigan State (10).

The rankings mirrored the final College Football Rankings for the most part, but Ohio State and Baylor were flipped in those rankings, with OSU checking in at No. 6.

And while the Buckeyes missed out on making the College Football Playoff, it will still be headed to a New Year’s Six bowl game, traveling to the Rose Bowl to face Utah in Pasadena, California on January 1. With a good showing there, OSU could once again finish the season in the top five.

Ohio State rises in latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

Ohio State moves up, albeit modestly in the latest AFCA USA TODAY Coaches Poll.

The latest  USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll is out, and now that we’ve got some actual games to look at, there are some significant changes to what the preseason version looked like. There were some surprising results, but Ohio State was not one of them.

The Buckeyes may have struggled a wee bit in the first half against an upstart and motivated Minnesota team, but all became right with the Big Ten universe in the second half when OSU made big plays and came away with a modest 14 point win on the road, with oars a rowin’.

For all of their efforts, the Buckeyes have won an all-expenses-paid trip up one spot in the Coaches Poll, from No. 4 to No. 3, behind Alabama (1) and Georgia (2). Rounding out the top ten are Oklahoma (4), Texas A&M (5), Clemson (6), Notre Dame (7), Cincinnati (8), Florida (9), and Iowa State (10).

Staying in the neighborhood of brats, cheese, and corn, only four teams from the Big Ten made the poll this week. Iowa (12), Penn State (13), and Wisconsin (17), all joined Ohio State in the poll this week.

OSU will continue to try and impress the pollsters when it welcomes No. 12 Oregon to the ‘Shoe on Saturday. Now, for the rest of the poll.
