College football is now done until Week 0 in August, with the national championship game now in the books.

Despite losing to national champion Georgia in the College Football Playoff, would the Michigan Wolverines, who finished No. 3 in the AP Top 25, be looked at as highly in the eyes of the coaches around college football?

The final USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll is now out, and Michigan football did, in fact, finish at No. 3, with wins over No. 5 Ohio State and No. 23 Iowa, with losses to No. 8 MSU and No. 1 Georgia.

The final AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports of the college football season dropped on Sunday and Michigan State football is back in their rightful place in the top ten, coming in at No. 10.

Not bad for a team that was projected to be one of the worst in the conference this year.

The 10-2 Spartans moved up three spots from No. 13 following another loss to Pac-12 rival Utah.

Alabama is your new No. 1 after beating Georgia in the SEC Championship.

Michigan State football was able to pull off a memorable win last night in the snow against Penn State, but that won’t help them move up the latest AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports. The Spartans remain at No. 13 despite the victory, right behind No. 12 Iowa.

Michigan moves up to No. 3 after beating Ohio State at home, who is now No. 7. Oklahoma State is No. 5 following their win over Oklahoma.

Georgia, Alabama, and Cincinnati round out the top-4.

Where Michigan football ranks in AFCA Coaches Poll after beating Ohio State

It’s all on the table.

After 10 years, Michigan football finally got the job done, and it did it with style.

The Wolverines beat up, bruised, and bullied No. 2 Ohio State on Saturday, not only taking down their hated rival, but also getting a signature win for Jim Harbaugh after seven years with the program. It was a game where the Buckeyes were favored and it was considered to be one of the two elite teams in college football. But now, it’s the maize and blue headed to Indianapolis for the rights to the Big Ten Championship and more while the scarlet and grey stay home.

With that in mind, how much did perception change for the coaches across college football? The latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll is out, and Michigan checks in at No. 3 with No. 12 Iowa up next.

Ohio State dropped to No. 7, while Wisconsin fell out of the rankings entirely. Michigan State is No. 13.

If the playoffs were today, Michigan would face No. 2 Alabama, but the Crimson Tide still have to contend with No. 1 Georgia in the SEC Championship game.

Michigan football was bound to move up heading into Week 13, not just because of the 59-18 road win over Maryland, but also because of what happened around college football.

Though there was only one team ranked ahead of the Wolverines in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll — No. 5 Oregon, which lost to No. 25 Utah — the Ducks’ loss further set up another huge edition of The Game this upcoming week. No. 4 Ohio State annihilated No. 8 Michigan State on Saturday, and the rivalry in Ann Arbor will still be a big top 10 matchup.

So, when the Wolverines and Buckeyes meet up on Saturday, they will be third and sixth, respectively.

Additionally, Michigan’s win over Wisconsin looks even better, as the Badgers moved up to No. 18. Michigan State fell to thirteenth.

The Spartans should still control their College Football Playoff destiny with upcoming match-ups against No. 4 Ohio State and Penn State, who just lost to No. 7 Michigan.

The good news? Michigan football beat a team ranked in the AFCA Coaches Poll. The bad news? That team is no longer ranked, thanks to Michigan beating it.

While Penn State wasn’t ranked in the College Football Playoff rankings, it was in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll last week, but by virtue of a Wolverines victory making the Nittany Lions 6-4, PSU is no longer ranked. Now, the maize and blue have just one win over a ranked team — No. 20 Wisconsin — a loss against No. 8 Michigan State, and a forthcoming game against No. 4 Ohio State.

As for the Wolverines? They’re now ranked No. 7, one spot ahead of rival MSU, despite the head-to-head loss. It’s the same thing that happened last week in the College Football Playoff rankings.

Michigan State football falls three spots in latest AFCA Coaches Poll

Michigan State football falls three spots in latest AFCA Coaches Poll

By all accounts, Michigan State football has had a Cinderella season, managing to start the year on an 8-game winning streak and getting a huge win over a major rival in Michigan. But all teams lose eventually, and that happened this weekend when the Spartans dropped one to Purdue on the road. Because of the loss, the Spartans fell three spots in the latest AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports to No. 9.

This will likely frustrate some fans, since Michigan is now back ahead of MSU at No. 8, but it is what it is. The Spartans still control their destiny with upcoming games against No. 5 Ohio State and No. 23 Penn State.

Michigan football simply handled business on Saturday as it took on a depleted Indiana team, winning 29-7. Though the Wolverines themselves were increasingly injured in the game, how would it look in the eyes of the coaches?

The maize and blue were ranked No. 10 in the Week 10 AFCA Coaches Poll, having dropped four spots after losing to Michigan State. But there was certain to be some shakeups in Week 11, with MSU and Wake Forest — both ranked ahead of Michigan — losing, while also having the College Football Playoff rankings out this past week, perhaps changing the barometer.

With that in mind, the Wolverines came in ranked No. 8 with No. 23 Penn State on deck as well as No. 5 Ohio State in the regular season finale.
