Adam Walton advances to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals.

Adam Walton advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA men’s singles tennis tournament Wednesday.

Walton, a native of Australia and No. 3 player in the nation, defeated No. 38 Henry von der Schulenburg of Harvard, 7-6 (1), 6-3, at Kahn Outdoor Tennis Center in Champaign, Illinois.

Walton, an all-America standout for the second consecutive season, has not lost a set in singles competition in the tournament. Walton advances to the round of 8 for the first time in his career.

He will play Kentucky’s Gabriel Diallo in the quarterfinals Thursday. Diallo defeated Ohio State’s Matej Vocel, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

In doubles competition, Walton and doubles partner Pat Harper were eliminated.

Tennessee’s duo lost in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to Ohio State’s Matej and Robert Cash.

Tennessee graduate student Adam Walton has advanced to the Round of 16 of the NCAA men’s singles tournament.

With his most recent victory, Walton, who hails from Australia, achieved all-America status.

The third-ranked singles player in the nation defeated Northwestern’s Steven Forman in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

Forman entered the tournament as the nation’s No. 42 singles player.

Walton will play Harvard’s Henry von der Schulenburg at 1 p.m. EDT Wednesday.

Walton also paired with doubles partner Pat Harper to defeat San Diego’s tandem of August Holmgren and Guilherm Osorio, 6-3, 6-2.

Walton and Harper’s next match will be at a time to be determined against Ohio State’s duo of Matej Vocel and Robert Cash.

Also in doubles, the Volunteers’ team of Emile Hudd and Shunsuke Mitsui lost to Ohio State’s Justin Boulais and James Trotter, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7).

In singles, Johannus Monday was eliminated by Inaki Montez de la Torre, 6-2, 6-1.

Two Vols advance in NCAA tennis singles championships.

Two Tennessee men’s tennis players advanced in the NCAA singles championships Monday.

Graduate student Adam Walton and sophomore Johannus Monday advanced with first-round victories at Khan Outdoor Tennis Center in Champaign, Illinois.

Walton, the nation’s third-ranked singles player, defeated VCU’s Charles Burtimon, 6-4, 6-0. Burtimon entered the match as the No. 90 player in the country.

The two players held serve through the first four games of the opening set before Walton earned a break at deuce to take a 5-4 lead.

Monday won in three sets in the first round, defeating Cornell’s Alafia Ayeni, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.

Monday, the No. 10 player in the country, trailed 4-1 in the first set and was down a service break before coming back to win the opening set.

Walton and Monday will play in Tuesday’s second-round matches and both would earn All-America honors with wins.

Adam Walton wins 100th doubles match against Florida State.

No. 6 Tennessee won its NCAA Super Regional match against Florida State Saturday.

The Volunteers will next face Baylor in the national quarterfinals Thursday.

In the dual match against Florida State, Adam Walton reached a career milestone with two victories.

Walton, the nation’s No. 3 singles player, defeated Loris Pourroy, 6-3, 7-5. He also teamed with partner Pat Harper to win a doubles match.

Walton joined the Vols’ 100/100 club as he won his 100th doubles match. He also has 119 singles wins in his career.

He is the sixth player in program history to record at least 100 wins in both singles and doubles.

Walton joins Byron Talbot, Shelby Cannon, John-Patrick Smith, Boris Conkic and Mikelis Libietis.
