CBS Sports’ Adam Schein thinks the Bills are Super Bowl bound

CBS Sports’ Adam Schein thinks the Bills are Super Bowl bound:

Many NFL analysts regularly say that the best teams win ugly.

The Buffalo Bills won an ugly game of football last night against the Los Angeles Chargers – and Adam Schein thinks this shows they are going to the Super Bowl.

Why?

According to Adam Schein on CBS Sports, the pregame show on CBS prior to the 1 PM NFL games on Sundays, despite the Bills looking ‘atrocious’ in their narrow win against the Chargers and needing to get better with fumbles, he still points out that the Bills winning this trap game after their commanding win against the NFC’s best Dallas Cowboys means that they control their own destiny and predicts that the Bills will “run the table, including beating New England and a win against Miami.”

Adam Schein: ‘Pathetic’ Seahawks QB situation is where hope goes to die

Seattle fans wouldn’t be upset if they weren’t at least a little bit afraid that he’s right.

Some Seahawks fans are not thrilled by this video clip that’s making the rounds. Watch Adam Schein at CBS Sports call this 2022 team a disaster and rip their “pathetic” quarterback competition.

That’s some high quality rage farming.

Anyway, Seattle fans wouldn’t be upset if they weren’t at least a little bit afraid that he’s right.

From our perspective, it’s not as bad as all that. While the Seahawks may not have a true No. 1 on the roster they do have two strong backups in Geno Smith and Drew Lock. That should at least keep this team’s basement from bottoming out.

On paper, this team looks more like a 6-11 or 7-10 record kind of group than a No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft next year type.

CBS Sports analyst projecting a big leap for Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence

CBS Sports’ Adam Schein believes Trevor Lawrence is primed for a breakout season with new head coach Doug Pederson.

CBS Sports analyst Adam Schein believes Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is primed for a breakout second season after a mediocre rookie year. He finished his first season throwing 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions while failing to complete 60% of his passes.

It seems likely now that he has Doug Pederson who is a former NFL quarterback and Super Bowl-winning head coach. Jacksonville also brought him several weapons at wide receiver and tight end. Lawrence also gets back his former Clemson teammate Travis Etienne Jr. who missed last season due to a Lisfranc injury he suffered in the Jaguars’ second preseason game.

Schein is excited to see Etienne and reminded viewers how much he loved Jacksonville’s pickup. He believes the offense should be vastly improved due to Etienne and their free-agent additions.

“I really think that the Jacksonville Jaguars’ offense will be vastly improved this season,” said Schein. “Seriously, I really think Travis Etienne is going to be a great player. I loved that draft pick. Didn’t love when Urban Meyer said he was going to use him as a wide receiver. But then he got hurt and Urban was a disaster and now it’s a fresh start.

“[…] Remember, this guy was a star. Unbelievable ball player on the collegiate level at Clemson. And I think you team him with James Robinson [plus it will be] Year 2 for Lawrence. Say what you want about the contract, but Christian Kirk can play. I mean, that’s a good group of skill position players. I’m telling you right now, major jump for Trevor Lawrence.”

Because of those signings and the Jaguars’ 12 picks in this year’s draft, I agree with Schein that Jacksonville will be much improved and Lawrence will have a breakout season. Fans have also expressed that they are looking forward to Lawrence’s progression in 2022 and think Pederson will play a big role in that.

Jaguars fans will see if Schein’s prediction will come to fruition in a couple of months when the season kicks off.

Chargers HC Brandon Staley among ‘bandwagons to hop on in 2021’

All aboard the Brandon Staley hype train.

When the Chargers fired Anthony Lynn after the 2020 season, many believed that the franchise was going to hire an offensive-minded head coach to maximize quarterback Justin Herbert’s potential.

Instead, Los Angeles decided to bring in Brandon Staley, the defensive guru, to be the man in charge.

Staley was brought onboard after overseeing the Rams’ top-ranked defense last season. Since he entered the building in his new role, Staley has inspired optimism with his additions this offseason, both new players and the coaches, paired with his vision for the team.

On top of that, Staley’s defensive expertise and his ability to get the best out of players — with playmakers highlighted by Derwin James, Joey Bosa, Kenneth Murray, Michael Davis, Chris Harris Jr. and rookie Asante Samuel Jr. — also brings plenty of intrigue.

NFL Media’s Adam Schein, who recently made a list of the best bandwagons to jump on ahead of the 2021 season, and he listed Staley at No. 3 in his rankings.

Here’s what Schein said about Staley:

He’s just SO well-regarded by everyone who has been around him. Last season with the Rams, in Staley’s first year as an NFL defensive coordinator, he churned out the No. 1 scoring and total defense in the league. That unit undoubtedly had special talents in Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey, but what do you call Joey Bosa and — when healthy — Derwin James? The offense will keep rolling with Herbert under center, and the defense will maximize its talent with Staley at the controls.

Historically, attention to detail and culture have let the Chargers down. That’s about to change. The Bolts were wise to invest in Staley. You should, too.

What matters the most is that Staley will have to be better in areas where former head coach Anthony Lynn’s failures cost the team a lot of close games the past few seasons: game management, strategy in crucial situations and special teams competence.

However, the bottom line is that Staley hasn’t even coached a single game yet, but the reasons listed above are all valid as to why he is one of the most enticing individuals heading into the 2021 season.

NFL Network makes this prediction for Chargers’ Derwin James in 2021

NFL Media’s Adam Schein believes Derwin James will have a monstrous season.

NFL Media’s Adam Schein made some bold predictions for the 2021 season, and the Chargers were represented among them.

Schein believes that safety Derwin James will earn first-team All-Pro this upcoming season, just like how he did in his rookie campaign.

He’s heathy, happy and hopeful at Chargers workouts. That’s all I need. James is a ballhawk, a game wrecker … just a pure playmaker. Plus, he’s a great teammate. The shame is that, three years into his NFL career, we’ve seen one healthy season. But what a season it was! As a rookie, Derwin racked up 105 tackles, 13 passes defensed, six QB hits, 3.5 sacks and three interceptions, earning first-team All-Pro honors in the process. I say he gets right back to that lofty status in 2021.

Dear, Football Gods … Please keep Derwin healthy. He deserves it. The Chargers deserve it. We deserve it

James returned to the practice field earlier this week after missing the entire 2020 season due to a torn meniscus.

Now fully healthy, James will have a chance to display his versatility in new head coach Brandon Staley’s defense. He will be used in a variety of roles, where is expected to make a huge impact.

When James is on the field, opposing offenses are more prone to struggle due to his rare skillset against the pass, run, or as a blitzer.

In two seasons, James has 139 tackles, three interceptions, 3.5 sacks and 14 passes defensed.

At the end of the day, ensuring James is healthy is what matters the most. Since 2018, he has only played in 21 games.

It could be time to let Seahawks QB Russell Wilson cook elsewhere

Adam Schein of NFL.com makes the argument that it could be time to let Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson cook elsewhere.

It wouldn’t be the NFL offseason if there wasn’t some sort of high-profile player controversy, it just usually doesn’t surround the Seattle Seahawks. Well, this year is already different in so many ways . . .  so enter quarterback Russell Wilson and his list of potential trade partners.

Without repeating the arguments over and over, there are many reasons to keep Wilson in Seattle ($39 million to name a few) and – according to NFL.com’s Adam Schein, some intriguing reasons to part ways now.

“Trading a disgruntled Wilson now could instantly replenish the draft coffers with numerous first-round picks,” Schein starts. “Sure, if the deal were made before June 1, the dead cap number would be an astronomical $39 million. That number is why many astute bloviators and ink-stained journalists argue to wait until 2022. And Seattle might. But you can make the case that the NFL’s most outstanding GM/coach combo, John Schneider and Pete Carroll, knows the time to strike is now.”

Schein points out the strength and competitiveness of the NFC West, especially considering Arizona’s addition of J.J. Watt. Wilson, he states, isn’t getting any younger and a serious injury could occur at any time.

“Now is the time to strike, Seahawks,” Schein continues. “Get picks. Flip one or two for your next quarterback via the draft. It’s time to let Russ cook elsewhere. Flip the script and make a self-serving move for your team, Pete Carroll and John Schneider.

“Because Russ is messing with your brew.”

CBS Sports’ Adam Schein keeps word, jumps through table for Bills

CBS Sports analyst Adam Schein jumps through a folding table this week following the Buffalo Bills’ first playoff win.

Since the Buffalo Bills have been led by head coach Sean McDermott and quarterback Josh Allen, few have been as big of a “Bills backer” than CBS Sports’ Adam Schein.

During this past offseason, Schein proclaimed he’s going through a folding table in a classic Bills Mafia manner when the Bills (13-3) win a home playoff game. You also read that right. Schein did not say “if” he said “when.”

“When, not if, when the Buffalo Bills win a home playoff game this year, I’m jumping through a table,” Schein said.

Recently, Schein kept his word and not only did he do so, he got his tips on doing so from Allen, who joined him recently for an interview.

Check out the clip below for Allen’s appearance and Schein table destruction:

Bills named among 9 ‘most complete’ rosters in NFL

NFL.com’s Adam Schein calls the Buffalo Bills one of the most complete rosters.

The Bills added wide receiver Stefon Diggs this offseason via trade with the Vikings. In doing so, the idea was for Buffalo to put the cherry on top of their roster.

Prior to the deal, landing a game-changing receiver was the lone glaring need the Bills had. Buffalo addressed that issue with Diggs. NFL.com’s Adam Schein recently reflected exactly that.

Schein tabbed the nine “most complete” rosters in the NFL this past week. Of those nine, the Bills appeared at No.6 on his rankings.

Here’s the breakdown on the Bills roster:

Trade acquisition Stefon Diggs gives Josh Allen the true No. 1 receiver he needed — and gives Buffalo legit depth and talent at receiver, joining John Brown and Cole Beasley. Allen was so tough and clutch last year when it mattered during the regular season. I really think he’s primed for a monster 2020. Devin Singletary and Zack Moss will be a solid 1-2 punch at running back, too.

It’s only fitting that I haven’t even mentioned Sean McDermott’s defense, the unit which — unbeknownst to many — finished last season at second in points allowed and third in total D. The front seven is very strong, with Tremaine Edmunds emerging as one of the game’s most dynamic young linebackers. Tre’Davious White is a flat-out star at corner, earning first-team All-Pro honors last season.

Buffalo isn’t the flashiest team in the NFL, but it’s definitely one of the league’s best.

While maybe overlooked, most in Western New York will know the Bills have a force on defense. It’s been at top-three unit since McDermott took over in the NFL.

Circling back to the offense, that’s why Diggs was added as well.

There’s playmakers on defense at every level from Ed Oliver in the trenches to Tremaine Edmunds to Tre’Davious White in the secondary. Now on offense, Diggs brings the playmaking prowess to that side of the ball. It’s hard to argue against the Bills having a very talented roster, but the big question all always be Allen. Schein has long been a believer in the Bills signal caller, but many are still questioning exactly that. With this deep team in mind, if Allen changes some minds in 2020, the Bills could go very far next season.

Adam Schein names Bucs as one of the NFL’s most complete teams in 2020

See why Adam Schein over at NFL.com had the Bucs on his list of the most complete teams entering the 2020 season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers went just 7-9 in their first season under Bruce Arians, but should improve on that record in 2020 thanks to the addition of quarterback Tom Brady.

The arrival of the six-time Super Bowl champion to the postseason-hungry Buccaneers seems like a recipe for instant success. Brady will be commanding one of the best offenses in the league and will have an experienced head coach in Arians to help make his transition to a new team easier.

Adam Schein over at NFL.com loves the Buccaneers’ roster, and had them at No. 5 on his list of the nine most complete teams entering the 2020 season.

Per Schein:

“Much has been written about the offense. Not surprising, with Tom Brady’s relocation to Tampa. The G.O.A.T is still great — and now he has the league’s premier 1-2 punch at receiver in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. And Rob Gronkowski’s reuniting with the quarterback, while joining a TE group that already included O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate. Talk about a wealth of receiving options! Not to mention, the Buccaneers’ O-line got better with the addition of No. 13 overall pick Tristan Wirfs.

“But the defense is what sells Tampa Bay as a total package. In the second half of last season, when the Bucs’ young secondary started to come into its own, this D was top-tier. Vita Vea and Ndamukong Suh form a brick wall against the run, Shaq Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul hunt quarterbacks off the edge, and Lavonte David and Devin White comprise the best linebacking duo in the game.”

Schein makes a great point about the defense. The Bucs’ offense has never been an issue. After all, they finished third overall last season despite Jameis Winston throwing 30 interceptions and getting sacked 47 times.

The question about the Bucs and their ability to compete in the NFC in 2020 has always been about their defense. The secondary came on strong last year, and the drafting of safety Antoine Winfield Jr. should only add to the explosiveness of this unit. Plus, Todd Bowles is one of the best defensive minds in the game today.

This Bucs squad is the real deal, and it seems some think they have what it takes to win the NFC this year.

NFC West ranks 2nd among all divisions in quarterback play

Seattle Seahawks signal-caller Russell Wilson leads the pack as the NFC West ranks second among all divisions in quarterback play.

In most seasons, teams would be wrapping up minicamps before they break for the summer and the start of training camps at the end of July. This year, however, has been radically changed by the coronavirus pandemic which has led to a virtual offseason.

Regardless, there is still hope for the future and a 2020 season. With that said, NFL.com contributing columnist Adam Schein is looking ahead to which division will provide the best quarterback play this year and the NFC South – comprised of Falcons’ Matt Ryan, Panthers’ Teddy Bridgewater, Saints’ Drew Brees and Buccaneers’ Tom Brady – top the list.

Russell Wilson and the rest of the NFC West come in at a close second.

“At age 31, Wilson is a megastar and already a first-ballot Hall of Famer,” Schein writes. “He makes everyone around him better. He has a mind-meld with Tyler Lockett, and don’t sleep on D.K. Metcalf making another leap to true stardom in Year 2. Russ headlines the division.”

Kyler Murray, Jared Goff and Jimmy Garoppolo round out the West’s signal-callers who are also likely to have impressive seasons in 2020 earning the division the No. 2 spot.
